chapter 1 of my exes-to-friends-to-girlfriends garsantos cat texting fic is out now on ao3!
Trinity stared at the photo for longer than she wanted to admit.
She remembered the first time that she had gone to Garciaâs apartment. It was also the first time that they had hooked up. Garcia had taken her out to a bar and Trinity had finally bought her that drink that she owed her and the next thing she knew they were stumbling back to Garciaâs place with her hand in Trinityâs back pocket.
âYou have a cat?â Trinity had asked noticing the cat tree that was next to one of her windows. For some reason, that stood out to her.
âYeah,â Garcia replied, her hands already at Trinityâs pants buckle and lips against her throat. âDonât worry, she doesn't like people. You wonât see her.â
It wasnât until the third time she was sneaking out of Garciaâs apartment at some ungodly hour that she had caught the cat staring at her from the kitchen counter. Trinity had, foolishly, thought that maybe she would be the exception to Yolandaâs warning about her not liking people. Animals generally liked her.
Trinity had gone over and reached out a hand for her to sniff. Instead she reached a straight whacking to her hand with full claws out.
Yep, Trinity had thought when she pulled her hand back and went out the front door slightly dejected. There was definitely a reason I have boy cats.
Garcia had laughed when she told her about I t the next time. She then started telling Trinity about Gertrude, the name Trinity was not sold on. How someone like Garcia could pick a name Gertrude left her wondering until she couldnât help but ask. Trinity found it both endearing and absolutely silly that Gertrude was the name that the kitten had been brought into the shelter with and apparently Garcia didnât believe in changing names.
âItâs her name, Santos. What else was I supposed to call her?â
Literally anything else, she had thought, but she wasnât going to argue semantics with Garcia when she was pulling off her clothes.
For the next few times that she snuck out, each time Gertrude would catch sight of her, she would bolt out of the room.
Trinity had spend an embarrassing amount of time and money trying to win Trude over after that. There was some stupid, half formed idea in her head that if she could get the cat to trust her that maybe she could be someone worth being more than just casual.
Gertrude had never wanted to help her with that.
