our Batmobile has gone back to @bmw in Bridgwater so we no longer own a car .. feels kind of weird that the possibility of driving at 155MPH no longer exists in my life .. amazingly good customer service .. sad to see it go .. especially the sound system .. my only regret is like so many things I never seem to get around to doing .. I simply don’t understand the continuing obsession with the Lexicon 480 reverb .. in my opinion its predecessor the 224 has a much more interesting character .. what really irks me is the same way “improvements” to the Eventide H910 or algorithms or perhaps changes in the hardware meant the sonic fingerprint sat completely differently in a mix and became subsequently more sterile with the H3000 .. then the DSP4000 (having learned to compensate and make the H3000 sound vaguely interesting I hated that piece of shit) .. or how Line 6 updates make everything sound progressively more synthetic .. I just don’t get why we can’t use a bit of fucking imagination and create new sounds .. and while synthetic reverb is intrinsically dumb the time old arguments about valves being better than transistors .. vinyl being better than CD .. analog tape being better than digital .. and don’t get me started on condenser microphones .. and why great sounding dynamic microphones get redesigned and the names don’t change .. all these stupid gear myths influencing those flappy holes on the side of your head .. all the same .. all the same .. until it isn’t .. because .. it isn’t .. as a musician and sound engineer I’ve learned that a simple software upgrade can mean the difference between the hairs standing up on your arms or the hair falling out on the back of your head .. sensory experience is complex .. surely the question we should ask ourselves is “how can we use AI and the computing power available to learn how to trigger enhanced sensory experiences in new ways? when we are hell bent on recreating some classic or iconic experience someone else had decades ago” .. or to put it another way .. “for fuck sake .. in other news .. a man called John came to do our garden the other day .. he completely transformed it and removed several years of brambles and foliage which he took away in massive dumpy bags on his trailer .. he did it quickly as well .. he actually turns up on time and he’s really reliable .. he owns his own tools including a chainsaw a hard hat and a ladder .. he even has a toolbox and ear defenders .. believe it or not he’s also a musician and he’s one of my customers .. a bit late to this .. let me explain .. I spent 10 hours in A&E yesterday .. because I was in a hospital I wasn’t allowed to vape .. ridiculous I know! so I have noticed a decline in flavours and yesterday when I finally got to have a puff .. INTENSE .. is what it was .. so I’m thinking ‘ah good old vape fatigue right?’ and that’s where I was wrong .. my taste buds in fact have been reinstated by something else I did yesterday before I left for Musgrove .. #oilpulling .. sounds like something you should do with a big Diesel engine on a drag strip yeah .. or something you should do with Vin Diesel wearing a dress .. hang on .. him or me .. trust me I look rubbish in a dress and big old Vin .. I reckon he would look weirder .. no in fact it’s the simple act of pulling oil through your teeth to remove bacteria .. you take a spoonful of coconut oil and suck it through your teeth and swish it around your mouth for 10 to 20 minutes ..
