In hindsight, if he napped more, he probably wouldn’t be in such an inherently bad mood most days. Which is only an argument against why he should be napping in his mind.

Well, color him... taken aback, that’s for damn sure. His expression seems to soften at first, as he’s listening to their little spiel, but by the end, Church is... well, he definitely isn’t flushed, for starters.

He’s not sure what he is by the end of it. 

     “ O-oh. Um... “ He rubs anxiously at the back of his neck. His first notion is to brush it all off and ignore this bullshit, but he... doesn’t want to, either. It feels kinda good, being... appreciated like this. Hm.

Which... doesn’t sound too surprising, somehow.

 Some part of him is well aware that he should expect this sort of display by now. And the part of him that is and does is comforted by the gesture. That same part of him is not only comforted by the gesture, but is all... melty over it. Good god is Caboose strong. That part of him enjoys being carried entirely too much.

     “ Dude-- come on! How many times do we have to talk about this? I’m doing something! “ 

The other part of him is generally just mad about being startled by the endeavor.

     “ You’re gonna give me a fuckin’ heart attack one of these days, and you know what? You’re gonna be so sorry and it’ll be too late. The damage will already have been done. “ That’s about as hollow of a threat as it gets, as if Church wasn’t about to immediately undercut it by the next thing out of his mouth.

     “ What’s, uh-- what’re we doing? Exactly? “ 

     “ I’ve barely introduced my father to the old-ass kids I already have. And the only reason they’ve met him before is because... I don’t know, probably because of the... holidays, I guess. “ 

That sounded right. It was that first Hanukkah, he thinks. But he’s been wrong before.

     “ Are you trying to encourage me to talk to him because he might be bored? Dude, fuck that, I hope he’s got absolutely nothing going on ever. “ Church scratches his head for a moment, thinking. 

Tsk. 

     “ Yes. Because, at all our respective cores, I’m pretty sure we’re all uniquely incompetent assholes. “

     “ Uh... I don’t know, I think ice cream kinda makes my teeth hurt. But cake is so... fuckin’ sweet, what the hell is wrong with people? They always focus on the icing more than they do the cake itself. I didn’t come here for birthday icing; I was promised cake. “
