Me when I am not watching sports: Sports is a fundamentally evil institution that serves as the antithesis of everything that I value and is perhaps the worst exponent of the modern opiate of the masses that is the entertainment industry

Not a hot take, but I find the various flavours of anti-LGBTQ+ sentiment to be very... sad, in a way.
A lot of us were taught to think of human beings as coming in only one of two genders (that are almost diametrically opposed), that sex was only meant for reproduction (and is synonymous with vaginal penetration), that biological sex only comes in two variations and that it determines your gender throughout your entire life, right?
And then some people or some experiences show you that there is actually more to it: gender isn't as simple as we thought, biological sex isn't as cut and dry as we thought, sexuality is much more rich than just a means or reproduction, etc.
I think that that's really beautiful, because it shows that as humans we are much more complex and varied than we give ourselves credit for, and that as soon as we try to define ourselves or think that we have finally grasped what it means to be human, it becomes clear that those definitions fall short. To define is to limit, yes, but also to misunderstand. Our pursuit of knowledge and self-knowledge will never truly end, but that's the beauty of it.
vice dot com I do not think that's legal
school uniform codes extending to what colours you’re allowed to dye your hair, and what piercings you can have and stuff is so crazy. you HAVE to go to school and you’re not even allowed to have pink hair or pierce your nose about it????
“oh it’s to prepare you for the workplace” okay. i don’t think any workplace should be dictating what you can and can’t do with your body either and i think it’s strange to decide to teach children that their body is not their own

This is why it’s important that we don’t dehumanize bad people who do bad things. Because they ARE human and that isn’t an excuse or a defense. These people are doing horrible things to their fellow humans for the sake of an incredibly harmful system. That alone is terrible and worthy of being shunned
They're not monsters. They're ordinary people. People we know. And that's worse. There isn't something bad in their wiring that makes them unable to be compassionate. They can be compassionate and choose to do the right thing, and they're choosing to hurt people even though they have the capacity to understand what they're doing as everyone else.
Dehumanizing people who do evil reduces their moral accountability and decreases our ability to recognize the same capacity in ourselves and the people we care about. If Nazis are subhuman, then your brother couldn't possibly be a Nazi even if you see him saying and doing Nazi things, because you know he's not subhuman. If Nazis are subhuman, then it's not Nazi rhetoric when you say it, because you know you aren't subhuman.
But no, your brother has the same probability of falling down a fascist rabbit hole as your childhood bully, and so do you.
How about Other people start worrying about how I perceive them
the thing about job searching is i see all these job postings and im like i dont wanna do any of this for any of you

our idiotic ancestors used to believe stuff that's not true but luckily we've now figured out all the true things to believe in
I haven't followed the men's World Cup (or any kind of football like ever), but I have found myself oddly interested in the sport lately and even listening to retired players talk about their careers or watching match highlights.
On the one hand, my timelines were inundated by it, but on the other, when I was watching all the excitement around the World Cup I thought to myself "oh, so this means to them what Eurovision means to me" (which I skipped this year).
I think that I've been put off by football because of all the advertising and the aggressive boys club energy that a lot of the fans project (which has felt more subdued this year), but what I find sad is how people talk about players as if they were horses that they bet money on. It's never "oh, he missed the goal", it's always "we believed in him and he let us down and, also, he was a horrible investment for the club that he plays at". It gets to a point where even the players seem to think of themselves as race horses. And like, not be that person, but it's literally a game.
I understand that it's a very competitive sport and that they are making money off of their bodies (like all athletes), but I wish we could live in a land of sunshine and rainbows where these people could get paid to have fun and the fans could go see the games cheaply without being inundated by advertising for sports betting and shit yk.
