Well, tonight it was Hot Fudge Sundaes! I used to do this when the kids were little and their Dad would be out of town. It always cheered them up. And it was fun. Then when he’d announce a job out of town or a work trip they’d all reply “Sundaes!!!”

But tonight I’m the sad one (a lil bit) cuz Sixx goes back to school Wednesday. Already! I know. So last week I asked her what dinners she wanted before she heads back and I’ve been making all her favorites …

“Bacon” Chowder (actually a green bean chowder I make with bacon so she’s always called it bacon chowder since she was little 🥹)

Ham steaks with potato salad

Chicken & Broccoli Alfredo

And tomorrow will be Chinese style Spareribs.

So I was joking with James that when society finally collapses we’ll be ok. We can survive on our 2 dozen cherry tomatoes, 3 jalapeños, and a cucumber! And he ran out and then came back in setting down these giant zukes and summer squash with a big ol’ “so there, smartass!”

Don’t really know what to expect from the garden this year. Most of the summer has been spent in drought and now we’ve been drowning (and steaming - it’s hot af) for 2 weeks straight. We lost the cucumber plants, no matter how we tried to water everyday.

Anyways, the smaller zuchini has been turned into fritters. The larger will likely become a big ol lasagna, and I’m thinking summer squash Milanese.

We went to breakfast this morning before grocery shopping and I swear this young man in the diner a table or two behind us, just stepped out of the 1950s and into the diner. I kept the photo blurry on purpose cuz I did not have permission but you can get the gist.

He was so legit, right down to his pegged pants and shoes, that I actually looked around to see if someone was filming for an ad or a movie. The whole town is like stepping back in time, so that’s not unusual.

Saturday lunch date, of course. I got no pictures of the food cuz we had Sixx with us and we were having too much fun joking and laughing to stop and take photos.

She goes back to school on the 12th so we’ve been running around all week trying to pick up everything she needs. AND we had to finish everything with regards to a small student loan to pay the balance left for the year. Her sisters and brother each pitched in to pool some book/spending money.

We got home Monday night from the quick trip to CT. God I miss New England (no not when it snows!), it was so nice to get out of the heat and humidity for a cpl days.

So Tuesday I took her to the $1 aisles at Dollar General and got all her health and beauty aids for $19! Then took her to Roses Wednesday (which is a lot like Kmart, maybe dirtier!) and picked up some dorm essentials on the cheap - I think another $25. And today we went into the big city and grabbed her some art supplies at Ollie’s (Good Stuff Cheap!) I think the most expensive purchase today were 2 pillow shams at Wally World for $25. Ouch. They had nothing at Ollie’s. But that’s the thing with that store, you never know what they’ll actually have week to week.

So aside from some kitchen sponges and some face soap I buy from my friend on the beach, She’s all set to go back.

Woke up with a pinched nerve in my neck.

Went down stairs to find there had been a collapse in the livingroom fireplace. Some bricks in the chimney gave way and fell knocking out the cap just above the fireplace thereby dumping brick, brick dust, soot, dirt, twigs…you name it. Into the livingroom. How we slept through what had to be a big commotion I’ll never know. And this wasn’t even the fireplace we had the contractor look at. That’s in the guest room!

Husband said “Let’s go to brekky” and picked my least favorite place. When they brought our plates they had given me my husband’s sausage (which I gave back to him) and my bacon was no where to be found. When they brought my replacement bacon it was literally burnt black. Like, how could you even say “yeah. Serve it.”

Went to clean the bath house and the last person didn’t turn the shower button off so when I turned on the water I was drowned.

Sixx gave me the wrong info when I was completing the co-signer app so now our apps will not match, and I can’t get back into it to fix it after it’s been submitted.

Went to vacuum up the dusty mess on the livingroom rug and my vacuum started screaming like I’d inadvertently sucked up some demons so I just turned it off and parked it in the corner.

Brunch date! Oh my word. The Eggs Bene was SO good! I probably won’t even need dinner now!

Had my appointment with Radiation guy early this morning in Nags Head, so Sixx came with me and after I was done we grabbed some lattes and went shopping! We started at Home Goods, but we were both like “this store is boring” so I switched gears and took her to my favorite thrift and consignment stores. Everyone we went into she was all “oh my gawd” or “I LOVE this store!” So this Mama is feeling pretty sassy knowing I have now successfully passed on my love of bargain hunting to ALL THREE of my daughters!!! They all love things with character, or things with a story, things that look like they’ve lived a life. It just warmed my wittle heart.

Got my homemade vanilla extract bottles made today. Now they steep for 4-6 months. Should be done just in time to include in the neighbors’ Xmas baskets.

This is super easy, just takes time.

Tired. Bunch of Dr Appts this week including my latest mamms. Everything looks good. Still “no evidence of disease.” Still officially in remission. 3 years.

Now tomorrow I see my radiation guy - the only one left from my original team. Then I’m done til I see the chemo nurse in Oct.
