We’re cooking out … in. It’s really to hot to stay outside for any length of time so everything is being brought inside. We’ve got:

Hot dogs

Burgers

Ribs (just 1 rack - a “snack” as the husband calls them)

Corn on the cob

Potato salad

Chips and dip

Chips and salsa

Fruit salad

Cherries

Cookies

Choc chip cheesecake squares

Banana bread

And probably more that I’m forgetting about! There are 6 of us. Six.

This is some bullsh!t.

Oh holy hell.

Eyeballing this arrow back Windsor chair this past weekend, but telling myself…

“Stop! I have too many chairs!”

😈 “but not an arrow back.” (Takes the picture)

“Chairs are piled on top of eachother in the barn!”

😈 “where could I put it? It would go with the writing desk in the blue room…”

“We have to empty out that room for repairs!”

😈 “Sixx could use it with her vanity”

“There’s a bench that goes with the vanity. There’s chairs all over the house she could grab if she really wants a chair.”

😈 “But look how cool it is.”

……….

I left without the chair. But here I am. Looking at the photo. Writing about it. Posting about it. Days later.

I didn’t have any Plantation Rum (now called Planteray) so I used Beach Blast Coconut Cream Rum (by local Cape Fear Distillery) and well, yummy! But I don’t think I need the triple sec next time. I’m not real big on orange and I think the juice would be enough.

This was our day Saturday again in my endless search for an antique corner cabinet I can afford. Unfortunately, I didn’t spot anything like that but we did come home with a few smalls …

Baskets for the neighbors’ xmas gifts, tiny baskets for the diningroom, a cpl of glass pieces, baby animals, fake grapes, and a battery operated candle that I cannot figure out! It did not come with directions, so that might have been a waste of $2.

Got home to find eldest daughter waiting on us. She’s breaking up with Billy Bob (why yes, they did just move in together) so she spent the night. The tiny Cappucino candle in the picture was for her so maybe it was a little cheer up gift.

I was good. I waited to be asked for my opinion and then I said nothing bad about Billy Bob but instead told her to get her own place. Be her own woman for a while. You do not have to move in with every person you date (this has been her M.O. since college). Know yourself. Find your peace. Then when you’re ready to share that, do so knowing no one can take that from you. We’ll see what happens.

I had someone in the Airbnb Friday and another Sunday (I’d blocked Saturday cuz I didn’t feel like cleaning. But now I have to get it ready for the 4th, that’s my next booking.

Hello! It’s me. I am alive.

I feel like I have been straight out since we got back from Gettysburg and well, haven’t done a lot of posting.

Straight out with what you ask? The normal crap of course, but then throw in unpacking and cleaning, setting up for and cleaning up after four Airbnb groups, docs and meds, gardens, and various house projects.

We did however receive good (?) news on the fireplace in the guest room. As you can see from the photos, the walls are cracking all around the chimney. We’ve figured all these years, that this was just the shoddy diy work of the former owners walling over the fireplace (don’t ask). But earlier this month we noticed the cracks getting larger, piles of mortar and brick dust on the floor, and basically the mantel being pushed off the wall.

So James called a friend whose a contractor to get his opinion on whether or not the entire fireplace and chimney is about to cave in and well, he says no! Yay!

He thinks there’s just moisture getting back there (just likely coming down/thru the 150 year old bricks) and the framing is swelling and pushing the mantel and bricks around. Yay?

Well, better than a cave in! (Im trying to be positive!) So at some point we have to yank the mantel off the wall and determine what the heck is going on with the bricks and the framing. And likely will have to do some repointing and replacing bricks. We have plenty of the same bricks in the back yard.

Oh and he also pointed out repairs where something similar happened previously (see last picture of the brick in the firebox) but was never disclosed when we were buying! 😡

Happy Father’s Day!

Actually, after a Cpl of these it’ll be a happy Mother’s Day too!

Actually I think we got home around 4pm but I then had to clean up after the cats - indoor and outdoor - and get them back to normal. Normal dishes instead of auto feeder, vacuumed up all the hair. So much hair. Cleaned up the vomit (Finny!) and I left one of my suitcases I wasn’t using on the guest room floor and SOMEBODY (Loki!) peed in it.

Put clean dishes away. Cleaned up travel dishes. Put remaining travel snacks away. Started a wash.

Put the porch back together (had taken in anything that might blow away) and put the container garden back together on the stairs (had put them in the car port so they wouldn’t dry up and die.)

I did everything except unpack my own suitcase and maybe I’ll do that tomorrow. Right now I’m on the couch with an ice cold lemonade and vodka and questioning my life choices.

Well, traffic cost us an additional 90 mins but we’re here. Our hotel used to be a school. It’s frickin beautiful! Sixx claimed the second queen bed and the boy claimed the sitting area with the pull out couch, tv, fridge and he can even close the door on us. Butthead. There’s a pub in the basement but it’s not open tonight. We will be taking advantage of that this week though!

Oh and the cornerstone is in our room. Pretty cool.
