It was a Muslim who realized that light ENTERS our eyes, unlike the Greeks who thought we EMITTED rays, and so invented a camera from this discovery.
It was a Muslim who first tried to FLY in 852, even though it is the Wright Brothers who have taken the credit.
It was a Muslim by the name of Jabir ibn Hayyan who was known as the founder of modern Chemistry. He transformed alchemy into chemistry. He invented: distillation, purification, oxidation, evaporation, and filtration. He also discovered sulfuric and nitric acid.
It is a Muslim, by the name of Al-Jazari who is known as the father of robotics.
It was a Muslim who was the architect for Henry V’s castle.
It was a Muslim who invented hollow needles to suck cataracts from eyes, a technique still used today.
It was a Muslim who actually discovered inoculation, not Jenner and Pasteur to treat cowpox. The West just brought it over from Turkey
It was Muslims who contributed much to mathematics like Algebra and Trigonometry, which was imported over to Europe 300 years later to Fibonnaci and the rest.
It was Muslims who discovered that the Earth was round 500 years before Galileo did.
The list goes on………..
Just imagine a world without Muslims. Now I think you probably meant, JUST IMAGINE A WORLD WITHOUT TERRORISTS. And then I would agree, the world would definitely be a better place without those pieces of filth. But to hold a whole group responsible for the actions of a few is ignorant and racist. No one would ever expect Christians or White people to be held responsible for the acts of Timothy McVeigh (Oklahoma bombing) or Anders Breivik (Norway killing), or the gun man that shot Congresswoman Giffords in head, wounded 12 and killed 6 people, and rightly so because they had nothing to do with those incidents! Just like the rest of the 1.5 billion Muslims have nothing to do with this incident!

The Osiria Rose has a exquisite colour combination. The petals are blood-red on the inside and pure silvery-white on the outside.
A small Japanese puffer fish is the creator of one of the most spectacular animal-made structures. To impress the female puffer fish, the male labors 24 hours a day for a week to create a pattern in the sand. If the female finds his work satisfactory, she allows him to fertilize her eggs. She then lays them in the middle of the circle, leaving the male to guard the eggs alone.
Life Story (2014)
Prompts
Do you think it is possible to have a society where there is absolutely no injustice? Why or why not?
Describe a society that has absolute injustice/justice served.
Do you think it is possible for everyone to have a good reputation?
Do you like communicating with people and being social? Why or why not?
What would you like to pursue as a career? (What would you like to be when you grow up?) Why?
I would like to persue medicine as a career in the future. I haven't settled on a certain branch of medicine, but I'm considering either Psychology, Genetics, or infant medical studies. Being able to achieve my goal would be a dream come true. For I have benn wanting this since I came to this world. I want to leave a print behind on someone's life no matter how small. I want to be remembered as The Noor and not A Noor. I want to make people smile. I want to change the world, do something worth living for. Save lives and change others. Give hope to those in need and plant love in the universe. I want to be here long after I'm gone. Noor Kosaji 10B
Social Media
My opinion on social median hasn’t greatly changed during the course of these long seven weeks. i still think that people misinterpret the use of social media mainly because they are oblivious on how to actually use it. They do the next easiest thing, which is jumping to conclusion.many people simply believe that social media can only be used to talk to strangers or friends online and post pictures of Friday’s party. While looking in depth, I feel as if there are more pros than cons of social media. I would say that people who see social media as a means of distraction and destruction are not educated enough in this topic to actually argue their points. I think that social media can be used for entertainment and education if it be used the right and appropriate way. A human’s mind is prone to distraction and it’s like not that’s a great major sin. I don’t think it would greatly hinder your performance if you deiced to take a five minute break and chat with your friends. It frustrates me when people say that the internet is not a safe place. I want to look at them in the eye and say, “Pull yourself together, even this world isn’t a safe place.” You can’t argue that everyone on the internet is a bad person and everyone in a chat room wants to kill you. Look at some major education sources, like Khan Academy, TedTalks, CrashCourses. Al these are educational means available on social media which could ultimately help you understand broad ideas better. I’d agree that social media has some disadvantages but then again, so does everything else and overall, it’s very helpful if you learn how to use it.
I completley agree with your point of view Maham. I do believe that people tend to "misinterpret the use of social media mainly because they are oblivious on how to actually use it". Many people in this society view social media negatively and that it "hinders" their performance. Like I said in another post, I believe that social media is a double-edged sword, it does have "some disadvantages", yet there are still "more pros than cons" to the matter. Take what you said about education for example, social media has indeed provided us with educatinal means that could make the impossible possible. And I completly support what you said about how people need to "pull themselves together" for no one knows what the future holds. Life is dangerous and the world is dangerous, take your chances but learn how to pick your game, and stay out of deep water. For if you don't you'd be pulled under the harsh iciness of the world and swallowed by the depths of corruption. Noor Kosaji 10B

•How has your opinion of social media changed from doing this project? Some people look at social media negatively – how would you argue with them that it can be useful and educating?
Saying that I was dissappointed when I first heard of this Tumblr project would be a major understatement. I grew up as an absolute bookworm, once I toutched a book I wouldn't set it down until I've read front to back. Naturally I didn't care about social media and infact despised it for no aparent reason. However, as I matured into the young lady I am today I learned of the importance of social media, its marvelous opportunities and wide connections. Yet I still regarded it with loath and hatred. Thus my apparent "enthusiasim" upon hearing of our assigned assignment. As day passed, I grew more and more into this project and I started wnjoying the tasks. I started exploring the positive side of social media and recognizing its upps rather than its downs. By the time we neared the end of the project, my view on social media completley transformed from frowned upon to encouraged and supported. This project opened my eyes to a whole new universe of ideas, cultures, beliefes and emotions. It was the door to a new life of ease and awareness. I am thankfull that my view of social media has changed to a better one. However, I am sure that many poeople out there still abide by their own negative view, my old view. They just need to open their eyes to the world around and explore the possibilities. For social media can be a source of unlimited knowledge and education if used carefully. It is a world of vast knowledge and a meeting point of numerous cultures and ideas. It can be the start of a new Age of Enlightnment and the cure for the world. It can be life in its past present and future and what's beyond. But don't forget that its a double-edged sword; use it well and it will be the start of a new life, misuse it and it will be the destruction of another. Noor Kosaji 10B

How you see justice being portrayed in the play so far?
Justice and the lack of justice have been portrayed in the play "The Piano Lesson" in several and various occasions. Since the play was actually based on the historical events of the 1980s when discrimination and racial injustice was common, it is expected that the plot of the play will talk about exactly that. The way the grandparents of the main characters, aka Berniece and Boy Willie, were treated in the past with extreme injustice and tyranny morphed the theme justice into the present where Boy Willie pursued closure. He believed that the only way to bring justice to his family and to pay off for his father's death was through buying Sutter's land, the one his family worked on a long time ago. Another scene in which justice was represented was when Berniece broke down crying at the end of Act1 Scene2, where she kept on hitting Boy Willie for what she saw as injustice. She viewed the situation as extreme injustice, for Boy Willie to live and her husband to die a horrible painful death. How was it fair that he didn't get to live! All in all justice has been represented and portrayed throughout the entire play. Noor Kosaji 10B
This scene from the very well-known movie and book series twilight clearly demonstrates the theme reputation. Right from the beginning when the girls were talking to the moment Edward breaks eye contact with Bella and even after that. When Bella asked about the identity of the new comers, her friend's reply was solely based upon what the society knows and thinks of them, whether as individuals or as a group. The apparent judgment in Bella's friend's word choice when she mentioned how "apparently nobody here is good enough" for Edward, was supported with her own opinion combined with other's. "The Cullens" have a reputation in which they "kind of keep to themselves" and are "all together". This doesn't stop there, as each one of "The Cullens" has their own reputation, starting from the "really weird" "little dark-girl Alice" to the "totally gorgeous" Edward. Reputation occurs multiple times throughout the entire movie as a main theme, such as in the scene where Bella arrives to school with Edward. Here Edward in fact doesn't live up to his reputation, but rather breaks the stereotypical social judgment. In general, reputation plays a major role in the movie as one of the main themes. This musical piece perfectly matches the scene where Boy Willie describes his encounter with the "Ghosts of the Yellow Dog". Pg.34 Act1 Scene2 This scene is so eerie, creepy, and tense. You could probably cut the tension in the air with a butter knife. The mystery, suspicion, disbelieves and fear is crackling in the air. As Boy Willie goes on with his story you could feel all these emotions growing into a pile of mass confusion. This song complements that. Imagine Boy Willie sitting there surrounded by other men leaning forward in excitement and huddled close together. Imagine him telling his story with a dark and mysterious voice as he describes the events of that night. Imagine all the other men wide eyed with fear as they hang to every word Boy Willie says. Finally, imagine all this accompanied with the musical piece above playing softly in the background. Whet an enchanting scene. Noor Kosaji 10B
Reflect on how The Piano Lesson can be represented in two different mediums. What sort of impact does this have on the story? August Wilson, the author of "The Piano lesson" has managed to portrait his main point and present his ideas in a lovely enchanting play. He described the characteristics of the characters and their personalities by their own actions instead of directly informing us. His theme was delivered through the various scenes and emotional moments. Despite the apparent similarities between the play and the movie, one couldn't overlook the striking differences. The movie has indeed included all the themes and main points, but it completely overpowered the play in displaying emotions and feelings. The play has failed in providing precise image representation of the scenes. The movie managed to clearly represent the events in an easier to understand and highly enjoyable imagery and experience. Have you ever read a book that was later turned into a movie? What changed between the two mediums? I have actually read numerous books that were later turned into movies, yet my favorite of all time is "The Giver". This novel is one of the best written books in the history of literature. Its words were magnificent compositions of melodious letters and emotional keys. The author drew a life of their own. They got lost in that world drawing us with them into the breathtaking spiral of events, emotions, and endless pages. The movie didn't fail us in any aspect of the novel. On the contrary it gave us something else to hang on to. It was a master piece of art. However, it has missed several details and has skipped slightly unimportant events. The movie was like an open window into the character's heart and emotions. It displayed less yet it gave us more. All in all it was spectacularly magnificent. Noor Kosaji 10B
