Holy crap I'm bad at doing things I say I'm going to do. To make up for it, my microphone arrived! To make up for it even more, that's a picture of my current setup. Yeah, that's a Toshiba Satellite. With a Celeron 1.1 GHz processor. SINGLE CORE.
...Fortunately, I have my M-Audio Firewire Solo audio interface, my AKG K77 monitoring headphones (soon to be replaced by AKG Q701s, hopefully!) and my brand new RØDE NT1-A Condenser microphone mounted on a RØDE DS1 stand. Secured to my desk with blu-tack. We're all professionals here. Don't worry about those speakers behind my laptop. I don't use them for monitoring, I swear.
So that's my setup, warts and all. Though it is a little glorified in that picture. My mic is actually on the left hand side, not the right. How would I use my mouse!?

I'm not even going to bother saying it's been a long time since my last upload. Oh wait, I just did. Dammit.
A nice variety of updates here. I'm using a new format, as you can clearly tell - mainly to make the songs easier to reblog.
I'm ready to upload about 3 different songs at the moment, as the internet has been really difficult to access lately. Unfortunately, I can only upload once a day, so you'll see them come out over the next 3 days. Hopefully. I'm getting a dongle for Christmas (who the hell named those things anyway?) so that won't be a problem as of the 25th December.
You probably haven't noticed, but the mastered version of Cry has disappeared. Turns out I made a massive error in the mixdown process and the entire bass part was a semitone low. No wonder you guys didn't like it as much as Nostalgia. I'll reupload it on the 4th day.
Unfortunately for you guys, I now have a job. Two of them, actually. I'll have some fun trying to juggle work and play. Maybe my output won't be affected at all?
Fortunately for you guys, I recently bought a RODE NT1-A microphone and an M Audio Firewire Solo with my newfound cash. Having an actual audio interface will improve the quality of my music a lot (I hope!) as it'll allow me to hear my unmixed-down tracks in full detail.
All right, there isn't a whole lot more to say. I've babbled enough anyway. Perhaps I can find a way to make these updates interesting? Know what? I think I know just the thing. (lol)
Hope you enjoy the latest version of my Sanctuary remix!
Utada Hikaru - Sanctuary (SolarWinds Remix) [Ver 2]
Man it's been a long time. I've worked on at least 6 different tracks since I last posted. I've made a lot of crap recently, so I didn't really want to upload until I made something relatively worthwhile. Is this relatively worthwhile? I'll let you be the judge.

And suddenly, remixes!
I actually did two things I said I would never do with this track. I said I would never do remixes, and that I would never learn from a tutorial. Yeah, I'm a pretentious sod, whatever.
Turns out the tutorials I found were bloody useless and I had to figure out how to do the vocal adlib bit by myself anyway.
I said I would never do remixes though, because I wanted everything that I pushed out to be totally original. Thing is, I absolutely love this song, and surely I can push past that rule if the remixes I make are damn good, right?
Right?
Anyway, what's done is done. This track is totally an advertisement (everybody knows you get popularity by releasing unoriginal, really easy to make crap) which I plan to give to birgirpal (Youtube celebrity - http://www.youtube.com/user/birgirpall) for one of his outros.
Hooray for shameless self promotion!
SolarWinds - Gemma
17 years ago my step father adopted a baby German Shepherd. I don't remember much from back then, only that she was the most excitable, most lovable little pup that ever lived.
One memory that does stick out strongly from back then was during a sleep-over birthday party I had held. We had pitched a tent out in the back yard where she lived, and upon trying to sleep several times to no avail, my friends and I got hungry. This was around 1 in the morning. We flicked on the little electric lantern that hung from the top of the tent only to hear an ominous galloping noise outside of the tent. Then my lovable, now very large, German Shepherd barreled into the side of our tent. In a panic we switched off the light and she ceased her assault. …Only for one of my friends to switch the light back on as a joke. The screaming actually woke our parents. Around 11 years into her life, we moved country. She spent weeks away from us in quarantine until she was deemed clean enough to come to our new home. She licked and barked and jumped on us like there was no tomorrow. From then on, I traveled back and forth from country to country, sometimes away from her for months, to see family. The best welcome back was always from my old she-doggy. Once, when my brother and grandmother visited the new home, she decided she wasn't getting enough action and proceeded to hump the legs of my brother and I – and the whole of my poor prone grandmother.
About three years ago she started to develop arthritis.
About two years ago, her hearing started to go.
About one year ago, I remember hearing her whining outside the kitchen door while I was doing something or other inside. I was home alone at the time so I rushed out, not having a clue what was wrong, and the moment she saw me she stopped whining. I sat outside with her for some time, checking her for snake bites, cuts, broken bones, anything – but it was as if nothing was wrong with her. I assumed she was just looking for attention, so I headed back inside. A little while after, she started whining again – but I ignored her because I didn't want to teach her that it was a good method of getting attention. She didn't stop for about an hour. I went back outside again, and she was in the same position, lying on her side by the kitchen door. I was starting to get the idea that something was very, very wrong – only she stopped whining every time she saw me. I sat with her for bit again, but it still looked as if nothing was wrong. So I hid where she couldn't see me and waited until she started whining again.
It was like I had taken a bludgeon right to my heart when I realized she was whining because she couldn't even stand up. It was the first time I really realized how old she was, and how there was a possibility of her not being around me forever. It sounds childish I know, but it honestly seemed as if nothing could take her from me – before then, at least.
Two months ago I moved back to my home country. This was on my own, and my German Shepherd did not come with me.
About a week ago I received a call from my step father. We talked a little about nothing for a while, but I felt I knew what the call was really about. He said he had some bad news to tell me and my heart dropped to the floor. He told me how, roughly a month and a half after I left, her arthritis got to the point where she couldn't move her hind legs at all. How they couldn't get a vet to come to the house, to look at her and help relieve her pain. How, after an extremely difficult set of days, they decided it was time to let her go.
I will love that dog for ever and ever, and I wrote this piece to make sure that I never forget about her.
Her name was Gemma.
A quick update on this. Still not done, but it's much closer. Going to work on the ending, I just slapped it on there for means of uploading this.
I need a singer...
Not done. Nowhere near done. I've been obsessing over this for an entire week, and I thought it was cruel to leave my blog for so long, so here is the unfinished version of Homesick - the first project I have enjoyed making since Cry. I'm going to make Liquid Drumstep work. Nobody else has, so I think it's exactly what I'm going to do.
Send me suggestions, ideas, criticisms on this! - it's why I made this blog.
I hope all of you out there like this one as much as I do.
Well that was quite a gap. Damn artist's block or whatever they call it. Here, have a taste of the liquid dubstep that I'm working on.
And yes, this is named after you. You know who you are.

I guess you were all looking for calm music. I made Cry calm. Bam.
Since updating my tumblr seems to be a theme at the moment, thought I'd share something I've held onto for a while.
Not sure about the dynamics of this. Made the piano cover back when I was using MMM, so mastering and balancing weren't the easiest things. Still, I rather like how it turned out. Enjoy!
Look world, I made Drum n Bass.
I've been having a lot of trouble with this lately. Considering Drum n Bass is by far my favourite genre of music, the fact that I spent two weeks trying to replicate the drums and failing miserably actually made me a little frustrated. It got to the point where I started questioning making music as a hobby and future career.
Yeah, I really love Drum n Bass.
Anyway, yesterday I was still frustrated and annoyed over this, so I looked up a tutorial on how to do the drums. Worst waste of time in my life. I returned to Samplitude, opened up my BeatBox 2 drum synthesiser and sat depressedly. I set the tempo of the composition to 170, I prepared a kick/snare drum map and had no clue what to do beyond that.
Then I started making the typical -kick, snare, kick snare- but something was missing. I keyed out a rapid Hi-Hat loop, but it didn't have the asymmetry needed for DnB. I brought on another Hi-Hat and alternated between the two, but now it was too fast and didn't have the "revolving" feel to it. So I made it have that feel. Turns out what had been stopping me the whole time was just a lack of rides (lol).
Anyway, there you have it. Threw it together in two days. Doubt I'll be releasing it, but consider it a proof of concept. I CAN MAKE DNB DAMMIT!
*EDIT: Tumblr was being a knob, so it's in a lower quality. *sigh*
Well it's been a while since I've posted anything, so I thought I'd share something that I'm working on at the moment. To be honest, it takes me a really long time to pop out a track - then again I don't have all that much experience, do I? - but there's something in the pipeline that I don't want to share until it's totally finished. Really, really excited for the release of that one.
Anyway, I thought I'd try something that no one has really done. Liquid Drumstep. I'm turning the music biz inside out, yo.
There aren't that many elements in this song, but it follows my mantra of minimal repetition so I think it's acceptable. I've had major problems fitting the bass into this song (damn you Samplitude!) but, well... give it a listen. The 8 of you probably don't care about this technical nonsense.
...and it's up on the Youtubes. Not sure what it is, but there's a charm with video that just isn't there with audio alone.

Pretty much my first finished track. I'm a little disappointed with my DAW, but it came out all right I think. Sorry for any shoddyness, feedback is welcome and appreciated!
It was a long, arduous project, this one. Only took upwards of around two months -.- It was great fun though, I just hope as I get more practise and I upgrade my DAW my music will come out better & faster. Looking forward to making some more music like this. I think I've found my style (somewhere between Blackmill and Tchaikovsky?)
Pretty much the first track I started working on, a while before Nostalgia. Very much a work in progress, even though it plays from start to finish. I need help naming it and the genre it's in.
150 bpm, all instruments and synths crafted by moi - aside from the drums which are heavily edited loops. The song is just over 2 minutes, which is why it is still a WIP. And yes, It does feature Legend of Zelda sound effects ^^
Also, I realise the "album art" is basically 10 spastic minutes spent in MS paint. You love it.
EDIT: I won't be releasing this one. I'll leave it up as a sort of Tumblr exclusive, but I don't like the way it turned out, nor do I think it properly represents the music I want to make.
