Known unknowns are a bad reason to say you shouldn't take measures to protect your health
this article
Her other argument is "we have outbreaks every year!" right before she goes on to say the Michigan outbreak alone is 680% more than all of the US for all of last year. Ignore this minimizing claptrap. Yeah, you shouldn't panic, but avoiding health risks until the situation stabilizes isn't panic. Don't let them "It's mild :)" you into making yourself ill just because the unknowns are still unknown.
When I see articles like the one above, I think about articles like this from 2020

Assata Shakur - Free All Black Liberation Fighters
Poster, 1973
"I have declared war on the rich who prosper on our poverty, the politicians who lie to us with smiling faces, and all the mindless, heart-less robots who protect them and their property."
"It should also be clear to us by now who the real criminals are. Nixon and his crime partners have murdered hundreds of Third World brothers and sisters in Vietnam, Cambodia, Mozambique, Angola, and South Africa. As was proved by Watergate, the top law enforcement officials in this country are a lying bunch of criminals. The president, two attorney generals, the head of the fbi, the head of the cia, and half the white house staff have been implicated in the Watergate crimes."
"They call us murderers, but we did not murder Martin Luther King, Jr., Emmett Till, Medgar Evers, Malcolm X, George Jackson, Nat Turner, James Chaney, and countless others. We did not murder, by shooting in the back, sixteen-year-old Rita Lloyd, eleven-year-old Rickie Bodden, or ten-year-old Clifford Glover. They call us murderers, but we do not control or enforce a system of racism and oppression that systematically murders Black and Third World people."
"They call us thieves and bandits. They say we steal. But it was not we who stole millions of Black people from the continent of Africa. We were robbed of our language, of our Gods, of our culture, of our human dignity, of our labor, and of our lives. They call us thieves, yet it is not we who rip off billions of dollars every year through tax evasions, illegal price fixing, embezzlement, consumer fraud, bribes, kickbacks, and swindles. They call us bandits, yet every time most Black people pick up our paychecks we are being robbed. Every time we walk into a store in our neighborhood we are being held up. And every time we pay our rent the landlord sticks a gun into our ribs."

I love music by straight women that is moving and genius and profound but you can tell the guy shes talking about is literally not ensouled and shes fucking completely imagining 95% of what shes talking about. I love your beautiful mind angel

Duel to the Death (1982)
“let women be straight” no. everyone lez out now
yknow in spite of the fact that the entire world is currently turning itself upside down to prevent me and my friends from having a good day, i really can't imagine being anything other than a trans woman. this shit kicks ass. we are so cool
Iys always funny to me people say the starship troopers dude us progressive as if he didnt hate chinese people and think we're all mindless automatons.
Heinlein is not progressive at all... He was "egalitarian", sort of, in the fact that he (sort of) believed everyone regardless of sex or race should be equal... in a fascist/libertarian state ruled by the military. It's very telling that in Starship Troopers for examples you get Rico who supposedly is Filipino and it's explicit that his culture does not matter because everyone is human (that is, fascist)
(in the movie, he's Argentine and he, like every other character in the movie, acts like a Usamerican marine, it's actually disturbing and very appropriate to the tone of the book)
Most of his novels are also blatantly Usamerican Manifest Destiny translated into space. Farmer in the Sky, for example, looks like a quirky novel about a young astronaut coming of age until you realize it's just Usamerican pioneer fantasy. I haven't read The Moon is a Harsh Mistress yet but from what I've heard it's kind of if Atlas Shrugged was better written.
He isn't completely worthless, he was a good science fiction author and I really enjoyed some of his books. But he had really terrible politics. Most big sci-fi authors do though.
I've also touched on the fact that libertarianism makes no sense in a space setting a few times, I should do a post about it.
Oh, as an aside, the "HUMANITY FUCK YEAH" reddit trend? The whole thing about HUMANITY CONQUERS ALL XENOS HUMANS ARE AWESOME (as long as they are part of the same fascist state)? That didn't start with WH40k, that started with Starship Troopers. In fact, Starship Troopers invented space marines.

I've reached the point where cynicism is a major turn-off for me. You're not smarter than idealists, and you're not helping.
Funny that the stereotypical cynic is an idealist who aged out of it. In my experience, the reverse is true. I was an extreme cynic as a teenager and then I noticed how profoundly limiting it was, and also that "cynics are cool and smart" was a message that was being constantly reinforced by corporate media for some reason.
#yes! cynicism reads as very juvenile to me#and yes prev often stemming from teen pain
Yeah, like I see black-pilled people on here and my default reaction isn't "oh, these must be world-weary old warriors who've lost their faith in humanity", it's "these people are in their 20s and need a hobby"
