I know others are talking about #billieeilish and her big wins at #grammys2020 but, for me, today is about two of my absolute favorites: @sarabareilles and @ladygaga 😍 Sara won her first much-deserved #grammy after seven other nominations (robbed multiple times in my opinion) and Gaga took home two more awards for her work on #astarisborn (the gift that keeps on giving). A bit of #bonaventurecemetery in my home... #birdgirl has arrived! It’s amazing how much she looks like the original (which I just saw at #telfairmuseums in #savannah). Originally known as #birdgirl by her creator, later called #littlewendy by the Trosdal family who placed her on their burial plot at #bonaventurecemetery, made famous by the almost #southerngothic #truecrime nonfiction book by #johnberendt titled #midnightinthegardenofgoodandevil, and later moved to the #telfairmuseums in #savannah #georgia, this 50-inch-tall bronze #statue has a very interesting history. An artist named #sylviashawjudson from #lakeforest #illinois was commissioned to make this for a family in #massachusetts - unknown town - as a garden statue. Someone else in Lake Forest as well as someone in #washingtondc requested the Bird Girl as well. Finally, the Trosdals of Savannah wanted one for themselves. Judson left the copyright to her daughter, Alice Hayes, when she passed away in 1978. Alice fought copyright infringement until her death in 2006, trying to prevent horrible knockoff versions of her mother’s art. Before she died, she made arrangements with an artist named #briancaldwell of #potina company in #charlottenorthcarolina to ensure the integrity of her mother’s work would remain intact. Potina is now the sole creator of Bird Girl replicas as well as replicas of other statues by Judson. That said, I’ve ordered an authentic Bird Girl replica of my own a few weeks ago and they’ve finally finished making it.
