ā i really like yapping about my interests whenever i feel like it!! i made this sideblog as to not clog my main (@kappaology)...i think this sideblog will mostly include me yapping/sharing art of my OCs, OC x Canon, and whatnot. not too sure if that will stay the same. but we'll see
ā multifandom. the variety/intensity of my interests wax and wane like a weird moon. but as of right now i've been really into the arcana!! julian devorak still has a grip on me even after all these years.
ā i'm also quite fond of the matter of france, specifically works about roland, because of A Knight from the hit game Reverse 1999

I realized I posted the sketches without the full-body sprite. I've been meaning to redesign it slightly but never got around to do so. I probably will.
I drew everything except Faust, I just stole her off Asra, so I don't own her.
It has a slightly droopy eye because it has brain damage, resurrection will do that to you.
I've been into The Arcana for so many years I was there when Julian was extra pointy.
"You're sure you don't want to lean on me, darling?"
"I'm quite alright, exhaustion has never slowed me down. Just...give me...a moment......"
i wanted to do something simple and sweet for the last day! this is also me saying thank you to @arcana-echoes for hosting such a lovely event, it's so fun seeing the community come together. i had a lot of fun both participating and reading through some posts in my spare time. everyone is so cool!! i really wish i could have joined in on all the days but sadly i'm still battling thesisā¦definitely looking forward to next time š
more under the cut! i get ramble-y about his character + old art reveal
the original idea for this drawing was a redraw of my earliest art of chunyu and julian from likeā¦a 2017/2018 arcana inktober event. but then it morphed into something of its own. i like to imagine this as a small post-credits scene you'd get long after their upright ending, after the unspoken problems in their bond are brought to light and they're able to turn over a new leaf :]
here's the original 2017/18 drawing! i can't believe they've stuck with me for almost 10 years </3 sorry for being sappy. i do genuinely hope the arcana community keeps on having more fun <3
extra: characters who inspired chunyu + more detailed descriptions because my handwriting here is TINY
sing from kung fu hustle: chunyu's overall character arc about false righteousness was inspired by him. in sing's case, it was more about finding the real strength within himself rather than the superficial machoman ideals he hid behind. chunyu starts out as a man who let notions of "destiny" get into his headāhe believed that he was seizing life by fulfilling his duty, when in reality he's stuck in one place and he doesn't notice it until one day he didn't get what he want. he believes that he knows what's best for others, dancing on a very thin line between inflated self-importance and actually being a good leader for his hometown. you can't be a good leader when you shut everyone out in favor of your own judgement. also chunyu's overall character story has a lot to do with martial arts!
barnaby from tiger and bunny: seeking vengeance vs. embodying goodness. much like barnaby, chunyu spends his arc trying to avenge his family. the rage would have consumed him had it not been for The Power Of Friendship (and homoeroticism). additionally, barnaby puts on a idealized persona for the public and his heart wasn't truly in being a hero at first, just like chunyu and choosing which parts of himself he wants to display. that way he looks like he has everything under control while ignoring his issues. also just Look At Them
agnes tachyon from umamusume, specifically beginning of a new era: surpassing the limit and a detached view of their body, calling it "this body" instead of "my body." characters who are unhinged at first, but are genuinely passionate just like their peers. characters who love something so much they can't bear to part from it completely even if they leave it behind. for tachy it was running, and for chunyu it's ribbon dancing. similar to tachy in the movie, chunyu suffered a leg fracture that ultimately made him withdraw from the world of sports. he was 17 when it happened, afterwards he dedicated his years to preparing himself to take over the family business. the pain flares up when he's under emotional distress, which is why he's very health conscious
miranda from devil wears prada: The vibes. honestly. but also the way she knows what must be done to stay at the top. her tenacity, harsh efficiency, and overall meryl streep's performance were big inspirations for chunyu when i was revamping his character as a businessman!
louis from beastars: the text i wrote reads "ohmygod bruh the entire arc about reclaiming yourself and overcoming your prejudice and-" and honestly that's really all i have to say about the parallels between chunyu and louis. it's been a while since i finished the beastars manga but louis' character arc remains top tier for me. having his flawed worldview be challenged over and over again until he dismantled it, when the same worldview had been the one thing that kept him "safe" as a child who went through Horrors
herrscher of sentience from honkai impact 3rd: HONESTLY. THIS ONE IS PURE VIBES because she's been an inspiration for chunyu since around 2021. plus i use her trailer theme "domineer" as chunyu's theme
last two characters i didn't have space for in the chart was tai lung from kung fu panda and (reads notes) the yakuza franchise's general aura (i imagine chunyu's version of the julian route to have THRICE as many side quests and brawls)
They've been together since they were teenagers and were each other's first true love.
Themba serves Matabele as a powerful general and an advisor, plus close friend, to the king.
Noxolo is an accomplished second to none shaman that controls the stars and works for the royal family with her husband.
Noxolo loved how steady and strong Themba is, plus she loves how grumpy he looks and can be at times.
Themba loved Nox's curiosity, her willingness to learn, and her joy. He also always liked bigger girls anyway since he was so tall (He's 7'1).
Including Claudia, they bore two more children: Bhekithemba, the only boy, and Mayihlome their youngest.
Claudia's relationship with her mother was close and encouraging, despite Claudia's struggles with her magic and frustration with her skills.
Her relationship with her father on the other hand was strained. As the eldest and unable to grasp her magic, she felt so much pressure to be more than she was.
But felt she never met that in his eyes.
What she never understood was how dearly he loved her, but he was always scared that she couldn't control her abilities.

Saliaās aunt was a skilled user of magic. Entering the family through marriage to her uncle on her motherās side, she wrote many letters to Saliaās family, sharing many recipes for salves, and other medicinal mixes for various purposes as well as just keeping in touch with her in-laws. However, shortly before Salia was born, her aunt had succumbed to illness. Her uncle, Esme, didnāt have it in his heart to take over the shop, but kept it the way his late wife would have liked it. He shared many stories to Salia, to keep his wifeās memory alive, as well as to inspire her. But, when he disappears, by default, Salia inherits everything, but honors her aunt and uncle by keeping it the same way they both left it.
Rhianne doesnāt want to think about where she would be if she never went to Vesuvia. Sheās a firm believer of fate, so sheās hesitant to even hypothesize altering history.Ā
When she arrived, they all found each other in a bad state, but theyāve all proved that not only can they live again but they can also thrive.
āI found so much here, and I fear not having it.ā
Although, one of Rhianneās biggest regrets involves her first meeting with Asra. Asra reached out to her after the apprentice died. He asked for help because he knew of her abilities, but she refused to give insight on resurrection.Ā
āThere are consequences, Asra. Let the dead rest.ā
Ultimately, she wouldnāt change her decision, but she hates that it happened. As an empath, she felt his brokenness, felt his love for the apprentice - but rejected him. She never forgot the sight of Asra waking away from her, nor the aura exuding off of the magician.
āIt felt cruel because it was cruel.ā
The guilt weighs on her immensely.
She wonders what would have happened if she helped Asra -
āThe ritual wouldnāt have been necessary⦠Could I have stopped the ritual? Would the devil have had a gateway to return?⦠If the devil never returned, would the apprentice have stayed? Would Asra have kept his first love?ā
Round and round, the hypotheticals consume her.
In her darkest moments, Rhianne is tempted to blame herself for the strange course of events. Sometimes, she feels like sheās not allowed to enjoy her life in Vesuvia because it came at the cost of everyoneās pain.Ā
āBut fate canāt be altered with the good or the bad.ā
This is one of the reasons Felle volunteers her to work in Asraās shop. Theyāre intuitive enough to figure out that something is wrong. Rhianne confesses it to them. Felle not only cares deeply for Rhianne, but also Asra. The apprenticeās aunt was very dear to them, and she often spoke of how much she cared for Asra. They see a lot of themself in the wandering magician.
Felle refuses to either run away from this. The mentor hopes that the time together will force the two to eventually confront one another. It does.
Rhianne worries that Asra resents her - that he carries the same sentiments towards her that she carries towards herself regarding her refusal. Ultimately, she apologizes to him for leaving him, and Asra reassures her that he wasnāt right to ask. From there, the relationship smooths over.
āI suppose that all things work out for some level of good in this life. Perhaps thereās no need for another.ā
If Rhianne were to really fantasize about another life, she thinks it would be interesting to be a vampire. She has a hard time letting go of people, so biting her lover and living forever seems like a nice deal.
She stole some cantalopes from her mother's booth. Her mom pretends to be mad at her for it, but shes actually glad that shes sharing with people in need.
Sol was used to Stelle's habit of slapping people on the back. Their boss, however, was not.
A quick doodle for (belated) Day 6! i'm tired from thesis but i still want to do something for it because they're perfect for this prompt. Chunyu DID have childhood friends in his hometown, ones he shared many happy memories with (including having impromptu street performances), but they gradually drifted apart due to different life paths. Nowadays, his friends are either old business pals or...business partners. But Sol and Stelle were always there for him. Somehow, the three of them went from polite transactions after a job well done to afternoons at the tavern, whenever Chunyu felt generous.

Chunyu gets. very hypocritical about his magic... this time with a mini comic!
āAnyone could learn blood magic, but only few could wield such power with the right degree of grace and restraint.ā
Chunyu's family, the Long clan, recognized the powerful quality of blood in magic, seeing it as a force of life that should be cultivated. For centuries, they raised highly skilled blood ritualists, bringing their own code of honor into the ātabooā magic:
No blood will be spilled for pleasure
One shall not use anotherās blood against themselves
One shall not use their own blood to harm others
One must use their blood in service to others
more lore dumps under the cut!!
Early Long family members served Pearl Moth in its early days as a silk and dye trading company, climbing up its ranks until one of the Pearl Overseers of that time entrusted the business to a senior Long mercenary. From then on, the familyās image quickly evolved from ruthless guards to something more sophisticated. The current Overseer and family patriarch, none other than Chunyuās own father, saw Pearl Mothās most stable era without having to spill a single drop of blood, even when a certain blonde was running around wrecking havoc.
Long blood ritualists are still allowed to empower themselves in a fight using blood without spilling it or resorting to bloodbending. It requires them to be very in tune with their mind and body, basically blending their blood flow with their bodyās natural magic/physical strength.Ā Ā
It was actually Chunyuās mother who introduced him to martial arts. Sheās untrained in blood rituals, in fact she refused to learn any magic past the basic spells, believing in her own strength. This combined with her pride made her butt heads with Chunyuās father in their youth when they were up and coming martial artists. (They had like. A combat shounen romance where they tried to one-up each other every chance they got. It wasnāt even beneficial because their respective families were TRYING to be on good business terms. Chunyuās dad was so distraught when she was late to a fight like āWait what if she doesnāt care about me anymoreā iām sorry this is a running gene in the family itās passed down to his son now)
It was then Chunyuās father who would seriously mentor him in blood magic after recognizing his aptitude for combat. He taught Chunyu everything he knew about bloodless blood rituals.Ā
Being a blood ritualist is Chunyuās greatest pride, but it was also his tender underbelly. To know oneās body to the point of breaking the skin with repeated precision brought him control. As long as he could channel his blood flow just so, be it in a fight or negotiation, it meant that victory was assured. It meant that no one could hurt him, or take anything away from him.
His death took everything away from him; all the knowledge, the skills, the tears and sweat he broke under his fatherās mentorship. But it also gave him the most exhilarating freedom⦠After all, who was going to stop him from relearning the more violent rituals?Ā
since i've been replaying the game, decided to make a gdocs template for the arcana ocs! there weren't menus in the game to replicate in a way that could work for gdocs so i made it tf up lol
remember to make a copy, do not ask to edit!
File -> Make a Copy
āRectangles are considered auspicious shapes, encouraging steadfast growth. Itās no wonder the young masterās room is full of themā¦ā
The window of Chunyuās childhood bedroom looks out to a near-panoramic view of his hometown. From there, he could hear the distant bells of trading vessels arriving at the port, see the bright colors of the floating market bobbing up and down, and, if he focused hard enough, the laughter of commonfolk in the trails below. Even as he scrutinized his fatherās manuscripts, the boy would open his windows to let the world in as a reminder of the duty he inherited. If his eyes lingered out to the courtyards for too long, all he had to do was to glance up at the dragon carved at the top of the window frame, and bow his head once more.Ā
Brief lore dump:
Preparation has always been Chunyuās strong suit. To him, studying was one of the paths to self-fulfillment. His early syllabus consisted of (carefully curated) private tutors and his own parents; his father for business and his mother for silk expertise. He has a favorite subjectābut if you asked him what it was, heād probably give you the most tailored answer ever. In truth, he likes poetry and literature studiesā¦Though heād never admit out loud that he used to struggle reading out the words with emotion as a child.Ā
As a child, concepts came easily to him, but converting them into actions was another beast. Fortunately, his parents were the patient type and offered him different ways to approach an abstract problem. Theyād take him along on business trips to let him see what the world was like beyond his family estate, allowing him to mingle and observe many types of people from a young age.Ā
Of course, this was also his parentās way of gently reminding him of his responsibility. Chunyu would grow up with this gentle sort of pressure, the kind that incited a looming sense of guilt even if his parents embraced him.Ā
Amidst his studies, he did have his own passion, and that was for the art of ribbon dancing. Chunyu seldom talks about it in the present, but he was a ribbon dancing prodigy in his youth. Nothing brought him more joy than dancing for the people, to hear their cheers, and to win trophies for his hometown. He felt the most free onstage when no words needed to be spoken.
āBut dreams should stay dreams, Iāve put them where they belong,ā is his usual answer if someone recognized him from his short-lived prodigy days. But behind his usual smile, thereās always a large puzzle piece he seems to leave outā¦
(skipping a few days because i want to combine day 1-3 since they're all very Very interwoven for chunyu..)

Every day that I write something for @arcana-echoes, it gets longer. Whoops hahaha~ Sorry not sorry for getting back into the writing flow~
(Even if it means the stories get longer and I am unable to keep up--)
Magic ā talk about their magic, when did they discover it? Did they have to learn how to use it or did it come naturally?
The above is what I imagine Marielle's magical aura to look like, especially during/after the events of The Arcana. It's a lovely swirl of many colours, shifting through every hue.
Enjoy the story within the rest of this post~
(tl;dr Marielle discovered magic through her mother, who is a magician. Both her mom Brielle and her aunt Ambrose taught her about magic before Asra did before the start of the game. Magic came naturally to Marielle, as she was a quick learner. Fire, light, and illusory spells are her favourites.)
āØāØāØ
Ambrose, š
Mom was right when she said weād continue our magician bloodline. Our grandparents really didnāt have anything to worry about when we decided to leave the Pearl Isles to travel. Do you remember how astonished they were when we mentioned that we wanted to explore the world ourselves? Grandma had the audacity to say that our books were all we needed to see the world! We wanted to see what lay beyond the horizon and on the distant shores!Ā
Ah, what times weāve had since weāve left home! Weāve met many interesting people, experienced many wonderful festivals, and Iāve even found my beloved here in Venterre. And you now have a magic shop in Vesuvia! Hah, They thought we were throwing our magical heritage away by leaving the Pearl Isles! None of these blessings would have ever happened if we just stayed at home! If anything, our magical heritage is stronger than ever!
Why do I bring this up? Well, guess who cast her first spell today? Thatās right! Our little Marielle!Ā
She caught me preparing a birthday breakfast feast for Marion last week. As it is still early spring, the sun had not risen yet, so I was using a light spell to illuminate the kitchen while I cooked. (No, of course we donāt have candles anymore after this long winter. You keep the ones in your shop! Someone will want to buy them!) I think this is the first time sheās seen me use something other than green magic (although I was using green magic for Marionās meal. Heās worked himself to the bone this last week), so curiosity got the best of her as she kept poking at my magical lights and asking questions. I told Marielle that if she helped me prepare the rest of Marionās meals, I would teach her. She lit up and cooked so fast that we were done much sooner than I thought!
In the time before Marion rose for breakfast, I was able to teach Marielle the same light spell that I used to illuminate the kitchen for the both of us. She caught on quicklyāprobably too quicklyāas her first orb of light blinded me. She was so entranced and excited by that spell that she begged me to teach her more, so I pulled out that dusty book Grandma sent me (you know the one) and we went through the different types of magic together. I did also teach her about the magical ingredients we used in her fatherās breakfast.
I am thankful that she is starting to become more aware of her magic now. Do you remember when we found her in the fields as a toddler, flowers magically growing all around her as she tried to use green magic to āmake Daddyās job easier?ā Haha, we found flowers in the field for weeks! This time, now that sheās a little older, Iāll be able to teach her properly. Iām sure sheāll find a way to put these spells to good use, especially as sheās started looking after the other kids in town.
Sheās a natural born caretaker, I suppose. Marion says sheās really just like me in that way. But I think she takes on after you in this sense; you refused to leave me behind throughout all of our travels. I think Marielle sees the other kids like that too: theyāre her kin that she wouldnāt want to leave because whatās ahead is more exciting when theyāre together.
Come by soon, Ambrose. With all those tomes youāve collected, Iām sure you could help Marielle grow more in magic. Sheās already gone through half of my collection!
With love,
Brielle
Brielle, š
If you end up reading this (I highly doubt it, but we like to be prepared), itās because Iāve already caught the next merchant caravan on its way back to Vesuvia. I wouldāve loved to stay and tell you in person, but you know how it is. Weāre not ones to let opportunities pass us by. Just look at how you were with your Marion~ (Speaking of, I hope you two enjoyed your date today~)
Thanks for letting me stay with you in Venterre! I always love dropping by. It has been too long since we had one of these sleepovers, huh? I loved every second with you, with Marion, and with our dear Marielle. Sheās growing so quickly, I can hardly keep up.
Iāll get to it, since itāll be the first thing Marielle will want to tell you about: I took the time today to teach Marielle more spells. We went through Grandmaās magic compendium and I showed her how to form a small fireball (donāt worry, it wasnāt inside the house), a spell for amplifying sound that she can use for her music, a spell for growing flowers (a focused and proper one this time. Not like the one she used as a toddler), and basic illusions. The loud sounds startled Mr. Alderās chickens, so there might be a few running loose in your fields despite us doing our best to gather them all again. And the new roses in your garden are Marielleās doing!Ā
In Grandmaās book was also a folded up paper about a spell to remove rust and polish metal items. Iām not surprised that she managed to combine those two spells that way. I did give it a try with Marielle, so if you find all of the pots and pans out⦠now you know why~
I think the one that excited her the most was the stillness spell. We applied it directly to the pegs of her lyre so it can stay in tune! She can dismiss the spell whenever she wants to change the tuning of the string to a different key.
You were right when you said she was a wonderful musician like Finch. She even knows his songs like the back of her hand! She ran through his whole repertoire and even had her own songs to spare! Are you still in touch with Finch? Iād reach out, but⦠you know. Still, I would love to hear from that bard again. I bet heās making a name for himself somewhere in the world. He told me once that heād love to see Nevivon or Firent. Last we talked, he was on his way south to the Crab Isles to see if the ācrabmenā are really half-crab, half-human.
I know that Marielle has the potential to be just as skilled and famous as Finchāif not more. Should Marielle be hit with our same wanderlust and have the same overflowing passion to tell stories and songs as Finch, maybe I could take her to Vesuvia? Itās a hard ask, but if that day ever arises⦠Please, let me know. Iāll be sure to keep our songbird safe.
Hereās to you, Marion, and Marielle, dear sister! Thanks again for the wonderful week in Venterre!
With love,
Ambrose
Brielle, š
Marielleās picked up another student for me, it seems. Do you remember the lad Asra? The one that saw Marielle performing on the streets one time, and then he found her on our balcony watering our plants? The one starting to befriend Marielle? While he is shy, Marielle did finally convince him to come by the shop to say hello. Heās a very warm compliment to Marielleās bubbly personality, and I dare say heās just as playful and mischievous. He opened up quickly in our magic shop, and we all talked magic for a solid hour or two before he had to rush off. Something about a friend who was waiting for dinner.
Well, it seems the lad is very curious about the many magical materials in the shop. Heās only read about them from a book his parents gave him and hasnāt seen many for himself. Now he too wants to learn more about them. Most of the items are souvenirs from our travels around the world, and he was enamoured by them. Marielle led the tour around our shop, giving her own mini presentations and embellishing our stories of how we got them and where. She really has our Finchās charm; though I lived through those experiences, I was still captivated by her retellings.
Youād be pleased to know that Marielleās grown stronger as a magician and a musician. Sheās found so many ways to incorporate magic into her performances to dazzle and awe her audiences. Light magic and illusion magic have become staples in her routines. And sheās even managed to have a show or two at the theatre in Goldgrave. Theyāre coming up this month! You and Marion better find your way up here somehow, Iād hate for you two to miss it!
Sheās taken an interest in healing and divination lately too. Might be thanks to that Asra, that book he has, and/or something they get up to together thatās caused a bit of interest in healing. Iāll have to look for some tomes on those topics to add to my collection.
As brief as this letter may be from me, Marielle has more she wants to tell you. Iāll include her letters in this envelope as well.
Do come visit us in Vesuvia someday, Brie. Weād love to have you. Iām sure youād like Asra as much as I do.
With love,
Ambrose
With a small sigh, Asra slowly refolded the letters in his hands. He was thankful that Ambrose kept every little trinket, tome, letter, and souvenir in this shop. Maybe somewhere in here would be useful in helping Marielle recover and come back to herself. Especially after having to bring her backā¦
⦠He never expected that he had to start over from square one with her. And here he was, searching for answers in Marielle and Aunt Ambroseās possessions for things Marielle used to know.
There was one thing he knew for certain: Marielle knew magic. Magic and music were her two passions in the years that he knew her. He had watched her countless experiments combining the two and their beautiful results. Maybe starting with spells she once knew would help her remember. She could come back to herself⦠come back to himā¦
It was worth a shot, right? Maybe they start somewhere familiar with herā¦
The principles of alchemy yesterday went well, and she received them fairly easily. It didnāt help that he had to re-teach her how to speak, read, and write⦠but she was catching on.Ā
The books and papers from his multitude and Aunt Ambroseās collection were stacked to the ceiling. Dust motes wandered through the air, catching the attention of a familiar pair of lavender eyes that peeked through the piles of books. Her hair, a deep hickory brown hair fading into golden waves, lay as a tangled mess upon her honey shoulders that were exposed due to the extra large shirt she wore. She didnāt bother to fix up her appearance as she slowly approached Asra in the middle of it all.
Though her uncharacteristically silent demeanour pained him, Asra put on a smile that failed to hide the despair in his eyes. He extended a hand to Marielle, beckoning her closer to sit beside him on the couch. His once grace was that she currently couldnāt read him well⦠or had a way to communicate it.
āWhy donāt we start with something simple, Marielle? How about⦠a light spell?ā
sorry for turning up late!! i wanted to do a quick intro on my main apprentices for @arcana-echoes 's event!
starting with our resident businessman...
šChunyu
The heir to a famous silk and dyes company that has fallen from grace.
A soft-spoken force to be reckoned with.
Honor, power, and profit. These are the three so-called rules that Chunyu lives by. As the heir to the silk and dyes powerhouse "The Pearl Moth," Chunyu was raised believing that his destiny has already been set, and that it was his duty to bear its weight. His gentle yet calculating nature makes it difficult to refuse him.
It was his idea to pioneer the infamous Vesuvian Red dyes, leading him to his own demise...Now adrift, Chunyu works with Asra as the shop's businessman while picking up the pieces of himselfāand bid his time to create a plan that could restore his family's honor.
(Love interest and soon-to-be-betrayed-by-chunyu: Julian)
āļøSol and Stelleš
What is a morally questionable boss without his goons?!
A wandering mercenary duo specialized in capturing bounties. Hired by Chunyu in the past, the two of them respected him greatly, considering him both friend and employer to the point of affectionately calling him "boss." After the death of their beloved boss, they have been catching hundreds of criminals in the mortal realm...Until their latest trail leads them to Vesuvia to aid in capturing Lucio's murderer. So far, they don't seem to know that their boss is back from the dead...
Stelle -- A free-spirited cowgirl who gets the job done. Fiercely independent and reliable, Stelle's natural charisma makes her the duo's dealmaker. Once she has her sights set on a bounty, she would not back down until she captured its target, similarly to a bloodhound and its prey. Current bounty and grudge: Dr. Devorak
Sol -- The headstrong Sol is a tragic troubadour-turned-mercenary. They inherited powerful light magic, which could be lethal when mishandled with strong emotions. Long ago, an exiled Sol fled their native home after a burst of magic that blinded its people, leading him to a life as a travelling bard until Stelle "saved his life." Current bounty and grudge: also Dr. Devorak
extra: the three of them hitting the umapyoi legend because yes!!!
