Hello, tumblr! I saw something on here the other day that worried me, so I decided to Do Science about it. But I can't do it alone: I need your help to build the dataset!
Here's what I need you to do:
If you see a post with a "mature content" label, and it's 2026, DM me a link to the post.

I am hoping to collect several thousand such posts, so that I have a decent sized dataset. I do not care what the post is about; if it's labeled as "mature content", I want to add it to my dataset.
If I get 10,000 posts in my dataset before August 31st 2026, I will post my preliminary findings then. I won't feel comfortable calling my findings "settled" before 2027, unless I get over 50,000 posts.
I am not talking about that unless I have results to share. That would bias the results.
I did write them down and I did share them with a trusted contact who can prove that I wrote them down the same day I made this post. (While I did so before I made this post, I am not sure they will be able to provide proof of that, because I did so on the same day.)

just looked it up. holy fuck. they did it by de-duplicating assets. I'm just. my jaw is on the floor. supposedly duplicating assets helps load times on HDDs but. holy fuck at what cost
it's worse than that: The Helldivers devs were told that duplicating assets would help HDD load times, but then they actually tested it and it had basically zero effect on load times!
So they had more than sextupled the size of their game by following industry standard practice that actually did basically nothing!
it's hard to describe what it's like outside for people who haven't experienced this kind of smog event. the quality of the air is so bad that it affects the quality of the sunlight and makes everything seem subtly off. it reminds me a little of how it gets weird right before an eclipse but instead of crescent shaped shadows it's that all the light is orange. kind of like being in Mexico in an American movie
as someone who's dealt with wildfire season smoke for a while (i live in northern california), i implore everyone in affected areas to please wear an n95 if you can whenever you leave the house. (i would also recommend this due to covid, but i mean anywhere now). if you have the ability, air purifiers inside your house will help immensely as well.
i'm being deadly serious here. the smoke will fuck up your lungs and leave you with long-term consequences. and with climate change, this isn't a one-time thing. be prepared, and acquaint yourself with safety measures the best you can. even a cloth mask is better than nothing.
