Ahsoka had been on her way to meet with her new master when the ship crashed on the nearest planet after an asteroid caused damage to the thrusters. She quickly and traumatically finds she's the only survivor. The first thing she did was try to make a shelter, but she wasn't having any luck there
Maul had watched the ship crash with interest. He pulled his hood up and walked to the wreckage, sensing that there was a survivor. As he got close he saw her. A Jedi youngling. Possible just assigned to a master and was being shipped out to him because of the new war. How fortuitous. He then slowly approached, trying to appear harmless. “Are you alright child?” He asked as he got within hearing range.
She turns just as her shelter falls on top of her for the third time, yelping in shock. "Oh come on!" She shouts and uses the force to get everything off of her, dusting herself off as she stands up. "As fine as I can be after that crash, stranger, any chance you know where we are? Or have a eay to get off this planet? I really don't have time to waste waiting around for help"
“You’re on Seluccami.” Maul answered plainly. “Nearest spaceport is a three day’s walk from here, that’s if you don’t convince a farmer to loan you a beast to ride. However, I have a rendezvous tomorrow, a ship to be specific, and am willing to offer you passage.” He explained, holding his hand out, and the debris begins floating around and forming a stable shelter.
She watches in awe as he makes the shelter as if it's nothing. "I would appreciate that a lot... you can use the force too?" She turns back to him, unsure if she should actually trust him or not but he hasn't shown any hostility yet so he can't be tbat bad, or at least that's what she hopes
“Of course. I have mastered the Force, and now the Force serves me. I hear you Jedi have a similar chant.” Maul answered casually as he walked into the shelter, and lowered his hood, revealing his face marking and his crown of horns. With another wave of his hand, more parts floated over and became makeshift table and chairs. “Come, sit. Let us have a chat.”
She tilts her head but follows him in, sitting down across from him at the makeshift table. "Something similar, yeah... are you a retired jedi or something? I'm not aware of any other groups currently operating that teach how to use the force." She uses the force to retrieve the supplies that survived the crash, food and water rations, putting them on the table
“I was never a Jedi. And I am far from retired.” Maul said almost waspishly as he rubbed his legs without realizing it. “In fact, it was a Jedi who had destroyed my life. Cut me in half and left me for dead at the bottom of a plasma refinery.”
She knits her brows together, perplexed. "That... sounds like you're a sith... but I was taught they aren't around anymore." She's far more hesitant to trust him now, but still he helped her without any strings attached yet. She's conflicted and doesn't know what to think of him yet
“Once I was Sith.” Maul admitted. “Darth Maul was my title. But after my defeat my master casted me aside like a broken droid and found a new apprentice. Now, it’s just Maul. The name of a Dathomirian Zabrak.”
He senses her conflict and chuckles, it’s almost unnerving. “Do not worry little Jedi. I do not blame the whole order for the actions of one member. Just Kenobi himself. I am a man of my word and will take you to the nearest space station safely. However, I merely ask that you do not disregard my words because of my heritage, but think them over. After all, wouldn’t you like to know more about the Force than what the Jedi would be willing to teach you?”
She frowns, the jedi that has requested her was Kenobi's old apprentice, wasn't he? She had heard her deployment might have even been his way of forcing responsibility on Anakin Skywalker. But he doesn't know that, and he's not going to the battle she was requested to.
"Well, the zabraks do use very different techniques..." she mumbles mostly to herself. "And you have been really nice and helpful..." she sighs, "maybe I'm just giving into my emotions too much... it's been hard to push the fear out of my mind since we got hit by the asteroid, even worse since discovering I was the only survivor..."
“Fear is a good thing.” Maul began. “So long as you focus it, you can use it to survive.”
“Tell me, why do Jedi suppress their emotions?” He asked sitting at the table. “It’s been my experience that powerful emotions are beneficial. My rage for instance, allowed me to survive Naboo and make my way to Raxus so I could…live off the radar.” He said, leaving out the madness he suffered for nearly thirteen years. Until a young Nightsister found him and got him home to Dathomir where Mother Talzin restored his mind.
"Um... Master Yoda says something like... fear leads to anger... anger leads to... hate... and hate leads to... something..." she frowns, pursing her lips. "I didn't listen the best in my classes... everyone says I'm a pogeny but I struggle to focus a lot... the force can be pretty distracting itself," she sighs. "I guess you got a point though, if I wasn't scared of the ship exploding I wouldn't have been so quick to get the supplies I could and get away from it before it could..."
“Exactly.” Maul said with a smirk. “And there’s so much more than the Jedi would teach you. Yoda is a brilliant being in his own right, but he has been a Jedi for too long, he cannot imagine how they could be wrong, and now there’s a whole war involving the Jedi!” Maul laughed then. “So much for peacekeepers! They plunged themselves and the galaxy into war all because of two Sith who have been under their noses this entire time! And yet, they did not see Dooku coming until it was too late, and the same will got for Sidious.”
"Wait, so Dooku, who's leading the separatists, is a sith and this Sidious guy who's in charge of him is directly under the Jedi's noses?" She pales, "that means they already know what we're doing and can hurt people easier, doesn't it? The whole reason we're in this war is to try and keep civilians safe... that's what the other jedi masters say... Master Yoda tends not to answer those types of questions very clearly, though..."
“That may have been the initial reasoning. Or perhaps what the high council tells themselves to help them sleep better. But make no mistake child, this is a power struggle between the Jedi and the Sith. And the Sith have been preparing for this for a thousand years.” Maul explained patiently. “And in those thousand years, the Jedi order has been on the decline. They’ve gone from millions of Jedi, positioned at various outposts in the galaxy, to ten thousand, all living in one temple, becoming close to the Senate, waiting for the senate’s permission before stepping in and helping those they claim to protect.”
Her frown deepens and she fidgets with her fingers, the force coming easy to her as she uses it to make two servings of rations. "So... we failed before the war ever actually started... the sith have every upper hand possible... the light side of the force really is shrinking..." she keeps her gaze down, her voice softening. "That's not exactly fair to the kids that literally don't remember anything before the jedi like me... what are we supposed to do if the Jedi fall? Are the sith just going to kill us all?" She looks up at him again
“No.” Maul said plainly. “The Sith wish to rule, and it is impossible to rule a galaxy of corpses. However, my former master has another goal; immortality.” He revealed. “Even when I was his apprentice, he was obsessed with it. His ambition would destroy the galaxy so long as he alone lived. Stopping him, is my goal.” He admits. “However the Jedi would not listen to me. They’d see me and try to kill me. So I must find another way of disrupting his plans.”
"Well... maybe some good faith would help? You're helping me when you don't have to, maybe the order will accept your help because of that... would you be willing to settle for a non lethal revenge?" She tilts her head
“Perhaps.” Maul said with a sigh. “I know you were being sent to the war, I presume your master is there waiting for you. May I ask what planet?”
"Yeah, but I'm not convinced that the Jedi I was assigned to knows I'm even coming. I think I'm just how Obi Wan plans to make his old padawan take responsibility. I was going to Christophsis. They're struggling to even get news to and from the planet, let alone backup... everybody who died in the crash were clones assigned as reinforcements... they were really nice..."
Maul considers Ahsoka for a moment. “Were you able to bury them?” He asked softly.
"No, but I did manage to make headstones... I'm not the best at meditating so I carved some stones to center myself..." she admits. "14 year olds aren't exactly known for their patience"
“Hm, how do the Jedi help you learn patience?” Maul asked. “My master left me on a planet inhabited by fierce predators. To survive I had to learn to be patient.”
"Mostly just telling us to meditate... sometimes I wonder if meditating us just their way of getting us kids to leave them alone for a while. I've been told I can be annoying when I get curious," Ahsoka shrugs
“Curiosity is a virtue young one.” Maul chuckled. “When I meditate, it helps to chat something under my breath. The rhythm helps me focus and not feel like I should be moving. Such as ‘I master the force, the force serves me.” He gave as an example.
“I do not think it is wise to surprise your master with an apprentice.” He said thoughtfully after a moment, thinking on her words. “You must have a certain maturity to take on an apprentice, and willingness.”
"The Jedi teach a similar chant, it goes "I'm with the Force and the Force is with me", it's less... aggressive?" She shrugs. "Well, I'm not in charge of those kinds of decisions. I'm barely in charge of what I eat from day to day. I get like two options for lunch, the rest of the meals are decided for us before the day even starts"
Maul reached under his cloak and pulled out a bag of dried meat. “Here. Eat some.” He offered her. “If I remember my biology texts correctly, Togruta are carnivorous by nature. Much like my people.”
Her eyes light up and she rather eagerly takes some. "Thank you, yes. Rations work for the nutrients we need but nothing beats real meat"
Maul chuckles at Ahsoka. “So tell me young one,” he began, “when you’re a knight, what do you want to do within the order? I know the Jedi allow their members to pick, for lack of a better term, professions within the order. So which one appeals to you? Explorer, recruitment, knowledge or diplomacy?”
"I... don't honestly know... I figured it would be better to decide that as a padawan than a youngling, since padawan's have to try a little of everything during the war right now... I've been in youngling training since before I can even remember, so unlike other padawans I didn't grow up with any other dreams of what I would be when I'm older. I always knew I'd end up a jedi," she shrugs, her normally carefully hidden enlarged canines on display as she rips into the dried meat wirh ease

“Come on Ben, I know you can do better.” Luke said patiently early one morning as he watched Ben work on telekinesis. “I’ve seen you lift heavier than these rocks in your sleep.”
@ask-luke-skywalker-rp
"Im trying, uncle Luke! Are you sure you weren't the one asleep?" Ben whines
“Do or do not Ben, there is no try.” Luke said wisely. “Come on, you can do it.”
Ben immediately drops the rocks and stares at his uncle. "That doesnt even make any sense! Did you drink something weird again?! You cant do anything without trying first!"
Luke smirked. “Yeah that one took me a while to figure out too. But it was one of the best lessons Master Yoda gave me.” He admitted.
"Are you sure that was an actual lesson?! He sounds crazy!" Ben argues, already tired and upset and the day has barely begun. Starting his training later on in life has done no good for his attitude
Luke sighed, then sat down across from Ben, and closed his eyes. Almost immediately the stones started to float, along with the large boulder at the edge of the clearing, Artoo, and Luke himself. Then after a moment everything was set back down gently. “It’s thanks to that lesson that I’m able to do that.” He explained opening his eyes. “I’ll give you some time to figure out what that phrase means. If you can’t, I’ll explain it to you.”
His face falls more seeing what his uncle can do. He feels like he'll never be that strong. "What if I never get the hang of it the way you want...? Dad doesn't even believe in the force and he's been around you and mom for years"
“It takes practice Ben.” He said reassuringly. “I struggled to lift my X-Wing at first and now I can lift even heavier than that.”
“Tell you what, use another hour to practice some more, then I’ll take you to Naboo for a treat. Deal?” He offered with a smirk.
Ben sighs and nods, "fine..." There's anxiety bubbling into resentment inside him. He's never been good with the emotional aspects of the force, just like the grandfather he idolizes
“Ben, I can feel your anxiety from here.” Luke said kindly. “Breathe. In through the nose, out the mouth. That’ll help you focus.”
Ben closes his eyes and breathes how he's told. "Sorry, uncle... it feels like its been getting worse lately..."
“I know. But you have nothing to be anxious about here.” Luke said reassuringly. “You’re already parsecs ahead of the other students. In fact, I think you’re almost ready for the next step in your training.”
"I feel like I'm behind..." he mumbles, furrowing his brows. "I mean, all those stories you've told me of the old jedi sounds like by my age every padawan was being knighted..."
“Obi-Wan was in his 20’s when he got knighted.” Luke pointed out patiently. “Yoda was in his sixties, but since his species age more slowly than most others I don’t think that’s a good example.” He admitted with a chuckle. “And I was 23 when I finished my training. You’re seventeen Ben, you got time.”
He then sensed someone approaching and smiled. “Isn’t that right Ahsoka?” He asked with a smile.
"Sure is. You're using your family as your benchmark, but kid your family is like no other. Skyguy was the youngest and least mature jedi knight in the order ans never got the rank of Master. I was never knighted, just made an honorary general when the war got worse after I had already left the order," Ahsoka explains as she sits down with the boys.
"How can you speak so casually about grandfather and use such an immature nickname?" Ben asks in shock.
"Oh, calm down, he liked that nickname. I never did tell ya who trained me, did I?"
"I assumed Master Plo Koon did, since you two seemed to have such a close relationship," Ben furrows his brows.
"Nope. Anakin trained me. And lemme tell ya, he wouldn't have stood for any of your self image issues, you would have learned confidence the same way I did, with a whole battalion of clones shooting stun rifles at you for days on end. We were child soldiers, Ben, we didn't have time to learn at our own pace. You do. Take your time, don't rush," she smiles reassuringly at him. "When you finally get your first real lightsaber you'll be a lriper padawan capable of being taken on by a master... had I finished my training I would have loved to take up the honor, but its not my place. I made my choices and the force took me in a different direction"
Luke nodded. “Ben, if you ask Artoo nicely he’ll show you recordings of his adventures with Father and Ahsoka during the Clone Wars.” Luke said with a teasing smirk.
“And Ahsoka, I’ve told you many times that if you want to join the Order that I’m building, you are free to do so.” Luke offered. “I see you as a Jedi Master anyway. So if you want to take a padawan from my students you’re free to do so.”
Ben's eyes light up, "do I have to finish my training first?"
"Have you watched some of those old training recordings? Are you sure you want me teaching any of these kids? Because I'd get Rex involved, and they will end up needing medical aid more than once under my care, especially with the way I used to train with Rex and the others in the 501st," Ahsoka chuckles. "Maybe think a little longer on that before a kid ends up in a week long coma from training against blaster fire while being surrounded"
“Yes Ben, you have to finish your lessons and chores today before Artoo will show them.” Luke said chuckling at his nephew’s eagerness.
“Can’t be worse than learning the lightsaber forms in a gladiator pit from a stormtrooper that was taught by Vader himself.” Luke pointed out to Ahsoka with an amused smirk.
Ben scrambles to his feet and goes back to his training.
Ahsoka chuckles, "you know sometimes it sounds like you forget that very little of your father actually changed when he turned to the dark side. You're right, I didn't learn like you did, I learned directly from your father as he was falling. I learned the forms directly from Anakin, just before his worst, in the middle of the war, with the entire 501st at his disposal to surround me ans fire their blasters until I collapse on the floor unconscious to train my body to recover faster and faster and withstand more and more. That training and the resistance of just a few of the clones I called my brothers are the only reason I survived order 66," Ahsoka reminds him somberly. "You're father's training methods didn't change much"
“I heard he wasn’t afraid to cut limbs off the inquisitors.” Luke commented as he watched Ben run the course. “Ahsoka, may I speak with you about something?” He asked softly, so Ben wouldn’t overhear.
"Of course, Luke, anything," Ahsoka looks over to him. "Except your parents love life"
Luke gagged at the thought. “No, not that.” He said struggling to keep his composure.
“It’s about Ben.” He said covering his mouth, making it look like he’s stroking his beard as he watches Ben train. “I fear something is pulling him to the Dark Side. It only started recently and already he’s more anxious, and his anxiety quickly becomes anger.”
Ahsoka frowns, looking over at Ben again. "Then perhaps I should be the one teaching him... the Daughter gave me her life, and I worked with your father, who better to ground him to the light than the light itself and remind him that his grandfather wouldn't want him to follow in his footsteps?"
Luke nodded. “Normally I’d agree with you, but we’re at the point in training where it’s counter productive to change teachers.” He admitted. “But, Artoo says that Master Kenobi also had a hand in your training, maybe we could co-teach?” He suggested. “We could also call Father’s spirit to keep an eye on him at night. That’s when the influence is at its strongest I fear.”
Ahsoka smirks, taking a deep breath before, "Force, it sure is a shame the Skywalker line doesn't know real fun anymore!"
Anakin appears next to her, "you take that back!" His blue ethereal form shimmers in the light as Ben faceplants in the background
Luke’s laughing. “Oh man, I needed that laugh!” He said after a moment. “Ben, come over here and meet the spirit of your grandfather!”
Ben runs over and Anakin smiles, "there's my biggest fan!" He hugs him and Ben can actually feel it. Ben melts into it, all the darkness washing away for now.
"It's so good to finally meet you, Grandpa..." Ben sighs contentedly.
Anakin smirks, the blue shimmer a bit lighter. "I've been watching you, kid. You're doing so good."
Ahsoka chuckles, "i remember those hugs... they used to help so much"
