Threatened to give Neville's toad a potion because Neville wasn't paying attention in class and could of very easily killed his classmates and himself. When you're working with dangerous substances you have to pay attention, (did you learn nothing from chemistry?)
He was groomed into joining the death eaters after facing severe trauma, and as soon as he realised how bad things were, backed the fuck out.
Again, deeply traumatized. Trauma victims often pick whoever is nicest to them. The 'light' side constantly abused him and refused him help. It's also fair to assume Eileen was light, and people often aim for the opposite of their abusers (or enablers).
Was Neville's most prominent fear. He want afraid of Snape, he was afraid of authority in the same way Hermione was afraid of bad grades. McGonagall isn't an abuser, is she?
Victims are naturally averse to their abusers family, even if they are innocent children. And while he did go too far occasionally, his still saved Harry's life several times.
Where did James get any character development? Besides his bullying and straight up abuse, the only canon we got about him was his death, which while noble, any half decent person would try and protect their infant child. Something else to mention is Snape will always protect Harry but James would of never protected Snape's child.
Again, trauma. His priority was Lily because he cared about her. Personally, if my ex best friend married my abuser, I wouldn't be too fussed about saving the guy either.
Where? That one time he called Lily a mudblood while he was being sexually assaulted? Need I remind you that he is literally a human raised half blood?
He created dark spells to protect himself from the Marauders, and there's no proof he ever actually used them (despite one attempt on James while being sexually assaulted). Please give me one canon statement from the books where he used a spell off his own free will on a muggle or a muggleborn.
Lupin nearly killed three students and also protected a suspected murderer, after almost killing Severus as a student (albeit wasnt his fault, but point stands). Severus has trauma regarding him and then he almost killed students, he should of been in that position. And Lupin was already a known werewolf! He literally talked about never finding work because of his condition. (I'm fairly sure he also resigned rather than being fired, but I could be incorrect there).
There is no canon evidence that indicates this. He knew Lily was at risk so if he had known he would of done his damn hardest to protect her from him.
I'm afraid you'll have to blame his parents for that one.
She insulted him and it was accidental magic. I don't see you calling Harry evil for almost killing aunt Marge, no? And he was several years older than Snape. Let's not forget that it's canon she met James as well, and he didn't seem to make anything better. (And I'm not sure if this is canon or not, but I'm fairly sure Lily was reduced to tears. James can't of been that great).
James continued to attack students behind Lilys back, lying to her. He attempted to blackmail her. Severus left her alone and devoted his entire life to protecting her son, a child be couldn't bare to look at half of the time.
