I think analysis of Deltarune that relies on the player being a literal character in the game (rather than us playing as Kris' soul) would bother me much less if it wasnt treated as a given, and furthermore if people didn't get really reductive about it. Like if you only view the game through the lens of a fan theory you are going to ignore other interesting ways of engaging with it! It means most people choose to think you can't derive any characterization from the dialogue options the game gives you, just things they arbitrarily decide can't have any influence from "the player". I saw a post where someone said "Kris made friends with Susie... but Susie made friends with the player... 😔" And I was so baffled. What the fuck are you talking about. How is that what you think is meant to be taken away from Chapters 3 & 4. You sound like you want this game to be miserable.

The average Deltarune player cannot imagine an opinion between "Kris nice and we force them to be evil by playing the game (morally wrong)" and "Kris is evil and we're the one thing standing between them and murdering all their friends." and I don't enjoy it very much

I completely understand being annoyed by those things but genuine question, in this reading why does kris' body have different goals, opinions, etc from kris' soul? I usually dont like the that type of silly theorising bs a large part of the fanbase seems to obsessed with(if i hear the name gaster one more time im gonna exlode), but in this case the "player controls the soul(diagetically)" just kinda feels like the pretty straightforward interpretation to me
