Strikes do not automatically include matching boycotts. Make sure that the union actually wants people to boycott before making posts like these – frequently it will make no difference, and sometimes it will HARM the strike effort because reducing demand eases pressure on the company to settle.

Right now, you must not boycott Kellogg’s – the current Kellogg’s boycotts are sponsored by far-right organizations Breitbart News and (from earlier this year) the American Family Association. A drop in Kellogg’s sales will benefit the right wing, not workers.

The reason there isn’t a call for a boycott is because it’s very easy for kellogs to argue a blanket call for a boycott, instead of one that only goes to union members, is a secondary boycott which is illegal in the US, and would allow them to use the police to bust up the strike by arresting the striking workers for violating section 8 of the NLRB.

Btw secondary boycotts being illegal in the US is fucking bullshit and example of our country’s blatant and repeated encroachment of worker’s rights and solidarity, but it’s the law for now so the union is following it, so that it’s not super easy to bust up this strike with the power of the courts/police.

also the argument about a boycott being good for kellogs doesn’t hold water. Selling out of a product is always preferable to not selling the product at all.
