everyone treats susie like a ticking time bomb. she’s a Bad kid, she’s Scary, she’s Mean. even a lot of the adults in her life act as though she’s a reactive animal.

susie likes toriel a lot, but is still scared enough of losing her approval that she goes out of her way to censor herself in toriel’s presence. even ralsei still sort of implicitly puts susie down/chides her for being too rowdy or crass. kris is pretty consistently on her wavelength now that they’re friends, but it was rough at the very beginning.

right from the getgo, tenna can take a joke. she immediately wants to kill him in-game and he says “get in line, kid!” not only reframing the situation as a joke at his own expense, but also unintentionally validating her frustration by normalizing it.

it’s no wonder susie was the first one to decide that tenna is cool and fun. part of it is definitely susie’s personal growth and more positive overall mental state allowing her to make friends faster, but i think an equally relevant aspect of their connection is tenna’s ability to just roll with her. he doesn’t react to her abrasiveness in bad faith. he doesn’t ever take it personal. unlike the vast majority of people in her life, susie doesn’t feel like she has to worry about doing something Bad and losing tenna’s approval. the Bad parts of her are the ones he thought were fun and engaging from the start. idk i like that they get along so well. her unstable but fun uncle who has multiple pending charges of copyright infringement against him <3

susie canonically already has a good evil laugh, as shown in chapter 1, but i imagine noelle could give her a run for her money. get you a gf you can do evil laughs with <3

dess, asriel, noelle, and kris used to hold evil laugh contests several years ago, most of which dess ended up winning. ever since dess disappeared and the original friend group splintered apart, noelle would continue to do evil laughs in the shower, as though practicing for the next contest. she would never admit this on pain of death, though sometimes carol will pass by the bathroom and listen in.

the laugh sounds much more broken, and much more genuine, in the weird route. ("you laugh and keep laughing. it's so funny, you can't stop. tears stream down your face...")
