So I squee'd when I saw it refferenced (although it has before in Supes Summer '25 special! what a bae. started from myspac.e now we’re here . . . but !! still the same : indie, highly selective, private homegrown girl next door. from farm hand to news anchor, newspaper editor, “aunt” of Kara’s, barista to CEO & more — what can’t our redhead do ? she even gets superpowers sometimes !

Lana gains powers (Clark’s or other) MULTIPLE times in the comics. Obviously her N52 and Rebirth are the still running “got powers when Clark died and they transferred to her and Lois”, but the previous decades have been temporary powers from a special pill, blood transfusion from Clark, dozens of different reasons – but most often some form of her being the Insect Queen (in many other worlds as well).

*I’ve never like the orange skin concept of Lana’s SW transformation. It felt like weirdly making a white character into a POC but in a very inappropriate way? As pointed out, using PSD’s that turn POC from their skin tone (be it dark skinned or lighter, regardless” into orange/neon is — as someone pointed out — as bad as white washing. I never thought of it that way, but after reading it I thought “truth”. (I know not everyone will agree with it, but it’s my opinion). Side note as an artist 🎨 : overall, the orange skin just looks bad. It clashes with her redder hair (meanwhile Kory has always looked FABULOUS over the decades!!! 🧡❤️) and both clash her red suit. None of these shades of red compliment each other. It’s cringe. There’s a reason my redhead friends don’t wear a lot of orange. When she’s not passive aggressively made a parallel to a POC, her suit doesn’t clash as much, despite that percentage of red just NOT working with her hair 🙄 they couldn’t chosen ANY colors, why red and white? Did the Avengers teach us nothing?!

I loved the first season of Smallville (I still have it on dvd!) and many other seasons. This version of Lana is -- in my opinion -- the furthest divergence of any Lana's incarnations. She’s also a brunette! Something they brought back around in MoS when Lana is shown on the bus witnessing Clark save everyone.

Alas ! We have to talk about Smallville with a grain of salt. The 8 PM slot of the CW station is infamous for its soap opera-like dramas. That’s how they getcha !

It got a little shaky in the middle, but thankfully, with help from Lois and Oliver, the show curved back around to enjoyable by the end.

💚 Kristen's reflections : primarily delved into on the Talk Ville podcast (I prefer watching it), I really enjoy Kristen’s input into character choices that originally confused me, but she has since brought a different light to.

Michael and Tom chatted with Kirsten about Lana’s constant abandonment by loved ones since she was a child, through her teens years into adulthood and how that shapes her. As well as the reverse of that being people obsessed with her (KK pointed out this contrast sillily isn’t explained the show).

In the case of her friendship turned more with Lex, Lana “becomes less innocent, she sees the world in a darker way, which is more interesting– feels more grounded – to play.” Tom describes it as Lana becoming more prominent, even “darker, swimming in the waters”) vs. Lana spending most her time merely “waiting for Clark”. I remember watching the show in its original airing thinking “what the hell? Why would Lana ever be with Lex?” Now with time, a fully developed pre-frontal cortex and great interviews from the case delving into character choices, scenarios that originally felt so off or ooc have a depth, reliability and tangibility.
