nowhere I am asked after - pity swims dreamscapes loose they fall Carrion, earthwardways small sops to pick up and part with

when I go to the field, I find a Hell’s dull edge and Her oracles bit blunt into black boulder - there are worlds under worlds and all their roads are fogged over - Come hither, I do not know the way, and there is Romance in the shapes these red trees animal against one another - this woodland path out, it’s like a broken spine: life spills out of it - now I hardly remember places far and real, they are like the smokes of theory, or the heart of a dark well - words, images they mean nothing - and here I am, green amongst the grasses, dusk belling my toll home after such a day of sighs, of simple dreamings - Walk with me, I stick like sap to all this Rescue -

Out from the night strange dogs appear stars silver across  the swaying swords villages wait out their own starving, empty soon, silent as the forest’s last tree, not even moss beds turn green for nesting, no birds sing it is a bad time for talking -

summer, wildgrasses droop like penitents - the heat is a fist in the belly - I am moving toward something - toward what? something real, snow-covered, the riding of the road to its end -
