slyxng:
the lack of concern for yixing’s wellbeing doesn’t fly over his head completely. still, he mumbles a quick “no”, and takes care not to be any more irritated than he already is. there’s no use for using up any more energy on pointless arguments when the same amount of effort can be used in the attempt to stay awake for the rest of the class. yixing doesn’t like failing in anything, but a little slip every now and again in appearance doesn’t hurt to make up for better performance in other things.
“because i have more responsibilities than your mundane student life, so shove off,” he retorts quickly, checking his hands before running them through his hair again; it matters little – if there’s ink on his hands, then the black is practically invisible through his even darker hair. “i don’t suppose you’ll know what it is to have responsibilities owed to anyone other than yourself.”
yixing isn’t usually this snippy. probably. he’s not entirely aware of all his idiosyncrasies either, but he knows he’s usually better at keeping his mouth shut. upon realising this his lips form a tight line, just in time for classes to start – and for the unfortunate announcement that they’ll be practicing spells in pairs today. he stifles a groan, and takes out his wand without any other complaint, instead subtle in the impatient way he speaks, “let’s get this over and done with, shall we? the duelling club president isn’t in his top form today, so you might be able to execute the charm better than i can.”
“i’m sorry you mistake me for someone so average,” nolan doesn’t let himself get upset by being called mundane. he’ll forgive yixing for being mislead this one time as a little smirk plays across his face. “but on the contrary, i know exactly what it’s like to owe responsibility to a team of people. usually common courtesy demands a decent appearance when working with them.”
he sends another disdainful look at the mess of yixing’s sweater, sniffing in that sort of disappointed and vaguely disgusted way. perhaps it’s the years of modelling experience speaking through him, or the mother that demanded nothing short of perfection from her children at a young age, but nolan’s not letting this go so easily.
a frown twitches at the corners of his lips. nolan kim is not a fan of partner work in most situations, but he’ll play nicely for the sake of his grade, he supposes. he draws his wand, glancing over at his rather snappish partner, and raises a brow. “i’d be able to execute the charm better even at your best.” he says the words with such lofty confidence, a sureness in his own perfection.
