i rarely hate films, but i think i hated this one. the only thing i liked were the outfits and how the cast wasn't all white and how it was a lesbian vigilante convent of sorts... HOWEVER it is transphobic, racist (one of the black characters gets brushed over asĀ āopaqueā), and they make love to a cop... nah thanks, but no thanks bruce la bruce. you basically took all the symbols of an actually liberated film and didnāt know what you were doing with it. very unsubstantial and a waste of time.Ā
a very intimate portrait of a queer relationship between two caretakers of a circumcision camp in south africa...
beautiful cinematography and very relatable characters
latvian animator signe baumaneās rocks in my pockets made me anxious about what kind of horrid things iāve inherited from my family...
was an excellent, direct, and humanizing portrayal of struggling with mental health and suicidal thoughtsĀ

by far more gruesome and graphic than other original films of franchises (like halloween and nightmare on elm street), but the writing and cinematography is lacking so much i didnāt care for any of the characters and the build up was totally missing. definitely was spooked and surprised by the mom tho! & why on earth is it called friday the 13th? barely a component of the film
loved the flat plane collage scenes like this one ^^^
otherwise a goofy fun horror that doesnāt pit all the main characters against each other (like the craft) and involves lots of cats.
classic by orson welles, the trial (1962), based on kafka novel of same name used size difference v effectively to convey the inaccessible and threatening quality of bureaucracy and institutions, particularly the judicial process. one thing that personally frustrated me was the portrayal of women as constant distractions (but knowing kafka this is probably him expressing his own anxieties) and the ever-present and consistent portrayal of french women in particular being sexually promiscuous and always available to offer themselves up emotionally, physically, sexually, and romantically.
i think halloween is still so far the best slasher classic (that iāve seen yet) but nightmare on elm street definitely brought fresh ideas and an another scrappy final girl. though i found myself more scared during the scenes i didnāt see freddy krueger himself (heās a bit goofy and intimidating?) but saw what was happening to his victims.
screenshot from my fave scene: all the characters get together and support each other.
lipstick under my burkha by Alankrita Shrivastava shows multiple women dealing with a variety of relationship issues and embracing their multifaceted and complex desires.

from imdb: "In the contemporary Tunisian thriller Bedwin Hacker, a female media pirate - holed up in a remote outpost in the mountains of Tunisia - figures out a way to take over the television and radio airwaves in France and North Africa to broadcast political messages. The irritated French Intelligence service closes in on her, which leads to a tit-for-tat game of intrigue between the hacker and her pursuers. Helmed by a female director, this film is of some historical significance, given its unusually frank, straightforward, and accurate portrayal of the day-to-day experiences of north African women."
wish the film depicted more complex characters and showed the resistance more! but i still like Kaltās style and how she remains committed to her values.
tws: depiction of a queer relationship as manipulative
>>>check out this anthology of short ghost stories by Aboriginal and Australian artist and filmmaker Tracey Moffatt<<<< imdb: "Three Australian stories of the supernatural are recounted in this anthology. Rick (Jack Charles), an Aboriginal boy living near a swamp on Bribie Island, is haunted by an American solider who drowned in quicksand. Ruby (Tracey Moffatt) and her family live in a house near long-abandoned train tracks, which still carry ghostly apparitions. A landlord (Lex Marinos) has trouble evicting the tenants of an old warehouse: a couple that's been dead for years." TWs: colonialism, gentrificationĀ
a classic, and still one of my favorite films. watership down by richard adams, directed here by martin rosen. not sure what the name of the animation team was. an animal allegory that depicts multiple kinds of societal structures.
this film by satoshi kon is probably one of the spookiest. the depiction of psychosis is very real, and the rape scene, even though it is āactingā is very triggering.
I donāt need to live like this.Ā I donāt deserve it.
La Región Salvaje (The Untamed, 2016, Mexico) Dir. Amat Escalante

park chan-wookās lady vengeance from 2005 is probably one of my favorite films now.Ā
best scene: restorative justice at itās most violent and logical conclusion when she gives a group of parents whose children were molested and harmed by a teacher the opportunity to avenge them. itās also beautiful to see how they all care for each during and after the difficult process.Ā
funeral parade of roses from 1969 by toshio matsumoto
fave scene: group friends passing around a bowl of weed and then playing a strip gameĀ
this a queer re-writing of oedipus rex
