Okay legit question. Did Heartstopper start as a Merthur fic?

I’m an adult, in my 30′s, and have been on this site for years. I am still a constant contributor to the fandom and have read probably hundreds of fanfics. However I have never read or heard of till now the graphic novels this show is allegedly based on.

I cannot, CANNOT see how this isn’t a modern day merthur fic?? Did the writer of this series START her stories as a merthur fic??? Like???

Right down to the plot, chemistry, characters, just fucking LOOK at them. These kids are almost identically cast baby Colins and Bradleys.

I know it’s not just me seeing this comparison but throwing aside coincidence, did this legit start as a merthur adaptation?
