“Girls who aren’t interested in me,” he said with a snort. “Brunette’s, I suppose. Never really thought about it much.”

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

“Preferably not burnt to a crisp or missing any limps.” Ben puffed out his cheeks. “Maybe make Lieutenant or Captain at the station by then. Maybe be starting a family... but that would require someone to stand to be around me for more than a few hours,” he added with a short laugh.

♕ ---- Ben set down the last container of ornaments and wiped off his hands. “Where’s the lights and how do you want them strung on this thing,” he asked as he gestured to the undecorated Christmas tree. “How’d you figure I was off today,” he questioned as he started to look for the lights in question. “Because I had every intention of sleeping this day away before you called me up askin’ for a favor.”

Crossing her arms over her chest, she simply offers a small shrug. “I just needed some fresh air, got a little too lost in thought and would much rather not go down that road again so here I am.”

♕ ---- His brow quirked upward as he looked over at his little sister. “Should I be worried,” he asked as he crossed his arms over his chest. “Or should I be hiding a body,” he added only partially joking.

♕ ---- “Honestly, I’m starting to think you enjoy putting me in uncomfortable situations,” Ben said as he eyed the horse attached to the sleigh that they were assigned. He adjusted the blanket on his arm and opened the door for her. He didn’t really mind the whole idea of a sleigh ride, he was complaining just to complain. She wanted to do this so here he was, with his hand extended for her to take. “After you.”

Katerina’s feet were already tilted slightly as she walked, turning quickly in response before turning back to look over at her brother. “I was already aware of that, but thanks for the heads up.” She responds with a roll of her eyes. “Why are you passing out on a park bench?”

♕ ---- “Mmm,” was all he said though, unlike others, he was sure that his sister wasn’t bluffing when she said that she was aware of the sign. “Just got off of work,” he replied to her question. “Why are you out so early?”

“Your surroundings in general, actually, instead of just assuming that people are about to run into signs,” he said lightly, although he could appreciate the fact that Ben was (albeit groggily) looking out for others. At the posed question, Luke couldn’t help but roll his eyes and laugh. “I was actually on my way to get some tools. Somehow, I managed to lose my socket set and it’s a little hard to get things done with a useless ratchet.”

♕ ---- “Fine, fine. I won’t help other people then. Just assume that they actually use their eyes and let them run into things anyway. All wise Master Luke said not to help people in today’s lesson,” he said and made a mock salute in his uncle’s direction. He would like to blame his exhaustion from the shift he just clocked out from on his need to push buttons but if he was being perfectly honest, it was just his personality at this point. “You sure you lost it or did someone move it without telling you?”

“You’re absolutely right on that, but we should only use the force when it’s absolutely necessary or when someone’s a serious threat to society.” She admitted. While Luna had her mother’s looks and personality, one of the many things she had shared with her father was his wisdom and adventurousness. “I know right?” She admitted with a laugh. “I mean, you’d think they would have realized that by now.”

♕ ---- Ben scrunched his expression. “I wouldn’t go that far. That leaves absolutely no room for fun, entirely too noble.” He looked over at his cousin with an amused look and shook his head. “They’re too busy thinking about how to save the world from everyone they don’t agree with to actually think like normal parents. And then wonder why we don’t tell them anything.” Or, he thought, that could be just him.

“my knight in shining armor.” she feigned a look of admiration before giving a small laugh, attempting to hide the smirk on her lips. rey was still learning how to become better attuned to her abilities, and it was frustrating when she slipped up — especially in front of others like her. taking a seat, she stuffed her hands into the pockets of her jacket. “i’m not scheduled to go in early, but i figured i would get some work done at the shop. i have a late night at the restaurant, and i didn’t want to be behind tomorrow.” she paused as she checked her phone for the time. “are you spending the holidays with your parents this year?”

♕ ---- Ben let out a soft and short snort at her words. “We both know I’m not that knight. I’m the guy who is stealing the knights gold while the guy is distracted by trying to woo the girl,” he said and chuckled a bit at the image that popped in his head. As much as his mom tried to do her best by her, he was more like his father than he cared to admit. He nodded at her question and reached up to scratch his temple. “Don’t think I can talk myself out of it,” he said. Family gatherings weren’t his favorite thing in the world. Being in the same room as his parents certainly wasn’t. “Going to hang out with Krampus himself? I mean, Uncle Luke?”

“Ah, so you’re saying I would have been inadvertently adorable and I would go viral with millions of views,” She said with a cheeky smirk, “Wow, what a compliment.”

♕ ---- Ben pressed his lips together and shook his head in response. “Nope, that’s not what I said,” he remarked and raised a brow in the girl’s direction. “But if your mind took what I said there, have fun with those delusions.”

Luke said nothing as he reached down to pick up a used coffee cup from the base of the mentioned sign. “You should probably pay better attention,” he replied, smirking at his nephew before joining him on the bench. “Do I want to know why you’re out here looking like some kind of bum, napping on benches?”

♕ ---- “To what? Someone else’s litter. Yeah, I think I’m fine. Spend too much time cleaning up other people’s mistakes anyway.” Ben glanced over at his uncle and simply shrugged. “Just finished with a 48 hour shift. Didn’t die in a fire so I thought I’d treat myself to a cup of coffee before I spend the next 72 hours sleeping.” He nodded to the coffee shop across from them, “it’s just not open yet.” He then looked back at Luke and asked matching his uncle’s smirk, “you spend all your mornings cleaning up garbage left by other people or are you competing with that Captain Rogers for the town’s golden boy reward?”

“yeah, what would i do without you?” the statement came out harsher than she’d intended, and rey sighed, internally chiding herself for letting him get to her. gotta keep your emotions in check better than that. a tiny frown formed on her lips when she thought of just how long he’d been working. she worked two jobs, but never could she imagine working that long in one shift. “i think they open in like ten minutes. i guess i’ll stick around and get something myself. mind if i sit?”

♕ ---- “You’d be on your ass,” Ben replied knowing full well that her question had been rhetorical. He could hear his own mother’s voice in his head telling him that he didn’t always have to say the smartest comment but he’d be lying if he said he didn’t like messing with Rey a little bit. Her reactions to it made it all the more fun. And honestly, it was never really out of any spite. “I won’t stop you,” he said but shifted a bit to give her more room on the bench. “You working early today?”

Luna nodded her head in agreement before then shrugging. “True, but I’m used to it at this point honestly.” She admitted, her boss was out of town often and there had been a few times where he failed to tell her about it, but she didn’t mind. It wasn’t like she was exactly fond of her boss anyway, some days she just wanted to hit him where it hurts. “I think I can handle it, but if they ever try to pull anything, I know who to call.” She admitted with a grin. “Yeah, bet their using the Force right now to try and figure out what’s going on in our personal lives.”

♕ ---- “He’s an asshole and deserves to be choked by the force. But that’s not what we do. Can’t let emotions cloud your judgement.” He rolled his eyes. He said his words as if he was joking but a part of him thought that some people deserved harsher consequences for their actions. Especially when those actions were directed at his younger cousin. “Mm,” he added knowing that he was probably going to show up to the bar anyway. He had the next few days off anyway. “Being as nosey as ever,” he said with a hint of a chuckle. “If only they realize if they stopped pushing, we’d tell them more.”
