My long list of Dorian Headcannons that I've been meaning to make, but have been lazy about.
I need preface that I tried very hard to keep Dorian's character in mind the entire time. There are some sections I was indulgent, but that's because the game gave me canon clues to be indulgent. I don't step out of line for zero reason.
Base Information
Age
Personally, his object self does convince me that he's well into his 40s.
But I like to say as a human, he's the ripe age of 35, so he at least has time to enjoy a human life without the true life pains of getting older.
Height
6'8 as a door, but I like to say he gets 3 inches shorter when realized because it would make living as a human much easier for him. (With all that ducking? His poor neck...) Dorian isn't about inconveniences, so I feel that he would appreciate being 6'5 so he could get through doors easier. Doesn't make him any less intimidating ā 6'5 is still really tall.
Body Type
Lean & strong, but squish.
Trap does say that he's getting older and slowing down and we do also have a body pillow description from the devs that confirms his squishiness. We even have visual evidence from Trap too.
I also dare you to look above and then look me dead in the eyes and tell me there isn't a soft layer on top of those abs. It's not CHISELED & TIGHT, like Shelly, or Dunk, or Kristof, or Dasha. But we still have a delectable door with a soft mid drift that makes me melt~
Origins
My origins headcannon is... obnoxious. (Yes, indulgent, but lemme explain~) This definitely isn't going to be for everyone, but it tickles me and keeps his character in mind the entire time. So just, hear me outā
To start, let me preface, that I completely use Trap's little "in my drawbridge days" a little too strongly. I also take every little hint we get of his 'old age' way too seriously and thus... Because of it, I have created this story in my head, that he was an Old English Door Guard for some English King in the Germanic Pagans/Anglo Saxon era (PRIME MEDIEVAL DRAWBRIDGES). Dorian was just a guy. Just a guard doing his duty in life. (He was probably born into serfdom, now that I think about it) His name, Dorian, was in fact because of Greek/Roman columns ā one of his parents probably thought they were beautiful and ornate and something the poor would find more opulent ā Who knows.
The point is, I like to believe that magic was more prevalent at that time, and that he ā somehow, someway ā got mixed up into some bad tricky fae business (which ā to meā is why he doesn't like trickery and funny business). He's... Dorian. Probably not the smartest individual at the time, and he couldn't get out of the situation with the fae and got tricked into being a fae door guard, sequentially turning him into the spirit of doors.
I feel this way, it answers all his plot holes I kept feeling throughout. He always seemed to be more rooted in human reality. Knowing many human nuances, having a more realistic outlook, etc. Sure, it might be a door thing, but the other objects are so clueless, it's honestly not even funny how drastic the difference is. I can't help but feel he might have a more human experiences than the others. Which, is probably just me, but it was always something I picked up on constantly while playing.
Plus, for angst purposes ā that way, if he was rooted in human reality and he is still slightly connected with his old life that he's long since forgotten, then he yearns for something he once had, and that's the only reason as to why I feel he would completely abandon his original purpose as a door to become human. I kind of always thought it to be a bit weird how he didn't fight (?) us on becoming human, as he was always so sure of himself as a door and wanted nothing more than to be the best door ever. I get that it doesn't align with the games storyline and that if he rejected becoming human, that means Skylar would be stuck forever too... So I like to believe there's an underlying layer of yearning to be human again, and that to be the reason he became human and completely defied his very sturdy occupation of being a door in the first place.
Nationality
English, Mainland European & a pinch of something more. I could type forever about the history of the world and the origin of certain doors or the methods used for different thresholds per region, but I won't. Since I lean into the Germanic pagans (Neolithic Europe ~5000 bc) + a good flavor of Anglo Saxon lore (we got the accent after all) for the origin of Dorian, I believe a small pinch is Ancient Mediterranean in necessary, but I feel that's mostly lost with time.
Languages
Fluent: English (Old & Modern), German/Dutch (Germanic & Modern), Chinese (Old & Modern), Modern Arabic, Latin (Church)
Broken: Ancient Roman, Ancient Greek, Ancient Egyptian, Old French (Frankish), all of the rest of the worlds ancient languages (probably just a word or phrase though)
Object Headcannons
He can sense if someone is at a door ā OR ā If something opens a door.
Explanation: Let's say he's inside, and someone on the outside comes up to the front door. He can sense that a person is at the front door. If he knows their knock and mannerisms, he can accurately say who it is before even seeing them. On the other hand, let's say homeowner ā or even another object ā goes beyond their "room" or is sneaking around or breaks their object's status or what have you ā he knows immediately if there's trouble afoot because he felt homeowner or those objects moving through the physical door. Thus, will be able to accurately act accordingly.
Open & Lock doors on command.
Which creates some great tension with the attic, I must say~
Can move through solid doors instantly
Can recollect what others doors are doing at any given moment & actually share one consciousness
So Dorian says that the other doors, are other "versions" of himself. That they all have a level of disconnect, that makes them different, but the same. However...
I call bullshit.
They all have memories of the others. They all can pick up conversations that another door left off on. Like... No. I feel like Dorian's lying to MC's face a bit.
They aren't all 'versions' of him, that stand on their own, as a likeness. To me ā they are all one-in-the-same, except, are extensions of him. What I mean by that is ā all doors are Dorian. Dorian is, all doors. The one spirit, is the manifestation of doors. But because there are so many of them, he extends himself to every corner of the universe and appears as those doors, except is shaped by the door itself, thus allowing him to adjust based on the appearance.
The thing I am latching on to the most as evidence for this, is the realization factor. Once he's realized ā all other doors disappear with him and there is in fact, one Dorian. This, of course, might just be a game mechanic. I understand that, but because of that, I'm still able to use this as evidence, especially when he says one thing throughout, and another happens. (But then again, I blame source material for this discrepancy) I think another point I can use as evidence with realization as the factor, is that if they really were all different versions of him, we would need to realize those different versions, because it implies they are their own Dorian's, with their own thoughts.
Now, I'm not saying that he can't disconnect himself with a certain type of door and voluntarily does not have a constant connection with. I definitely think that does happen. Because let's be real ā a very non sexual man, having a sexual side? That's fucking weird. That's bizzaro. Our AroAce Demi baby with a massive sexual side?? Like what the fuck is that? Why couldn't that non sexual man stay non sexual? But that's the thing ~ That sexual side, so happens, to be a door type that's dying out of existence and slowly fading from view... That's not a coin-winky-dink, my friends. I definitely think Trap and Dorian are disconnected. I absolutely believe that Dorian banished all his sexual frustrations and delinquency to Trap, so it doesn't serve as a threat or disrupt anything he stands for as a door.
Plus! I even believe Trap not to be as sexual as he appears. But I'll get into that in a bit~
Can be the physical door itself or an extension
I like to think that he can form as the actual door itself & form as an extension of the door to stand before it. Take the attic door for example ā he would form before it because he's being restrictive and doesn't want anything beyond it to be seen. Front Door as well, he wouldn't become the door, just form before it. Other doors however, the door would just become Dorian.
Post-Object Headcannons
Can still sense if someone is at the front door, or if someone is messing with a locked door in the house he's in, or if someone is sneaking around (great for the future kids sneaking out), etc
Can still lock or unlock doors at will. Gotta touch them though, cause the physicality of being human does make the metaphysical aspects he had before null.
Can't move through doors, but somehow can hear full ass conversations behind tight closed doors though.
Story Headcannons
This might need to be it's own post, but here we are.
Subtle Dorian Facts (that need no expanding upon)
⢠He's surprisingly soft for a door.
⢠While quiet and reserved, he's definitely an extrovert.
⢠Doorknobs are his hands. There are two door knobs. He has two hands. Very simple.
⢠Can only enjoy a very small genre of music. (Classical, Opera, Big Band ā anything with an orchestra and/or impressive singing skills.)
⢠While he is a door and has no doubts about being a door ā he does consider himself more of a protector.
Trap isn't the sexual Trap you think he is.
Now, I said I would get into why I think Trap isn't as sexual as he appears. This~ is quite off-handed and I really dig deep into my D&D obsession with this, but I digress~
So, I mentioned that "Trap" doors or also known as hatches, are going out of style. They are a... Dying type of door that isn't seen much anymore. There are more doors on slants now, than there are pull hatches for entry. Yes, attic doors and floor basement doors exist, but they are shaped like actual doors, open upwards like actual doors, and don't have that "trap" door aesthetic. On top of that, I find it mighty fucking convenient that they call a literal fucking hatch, a TRAP door... And that with, I fully believe, Trap to be a rogue in disguise.
Okay, hear me out, don't leave me yet.
Traps doors are usually hatches, yes. Who uses those? Rogues! In fact, what kind of person uses trap doors the most, if not booby traps the hatch themselves for their own gain? Again, rogues. And with that, I stand that Trap Dorian is a rogue, in disguise, because of Keith.
I fully believe, that Dorian KNEW Keith was in that crawlspace. There's no fucking way he didn't know that, especially with Trap there, you ain't fooling me buddy. And how would Dorian control Kieth and keep him entertained? With a rogue-like side of him, that's as cunning and bright as Keith is, but also has the sex appeal to keep him entertained.
It's honestly, so easy to comprehend when it's laid out. Trap is disconnected from Dorian because Dorian isn't a sexual creature and he doesn't want those parts to get in-between his friendships. Trap keeps Keith entertained. Keith doesn't bother anyone else or cause trouble. Trap plays the same games as Keith does, allowing their little charade to go in circles for centuries, while also leaving Keith satisfied but also protects everyone in the process.
Massive Reader
Realized or not ā I think this man LOVES to read & has a special adoration for newspapers (he likes how they smell, how they are printed, how old their history is, etc). He's already a mountain of information and memories; as seen in the game. However, the idea of education and broadening the scope of his mind is very exciting for him. And now, I don't mean that what he's reading is straight fiction. It's not. He does not come off as a fictional kind of guy. Absolutely not with all the nonfiction ramblings he goes on. So yes, he's a massive nonfiction reader. History, Science, Law, News Articles, Anthropology ā pretty much anything that he can learn from.
Now, I'm not saying he doesn't read fiction. He definitely does when he's feeling a little peckish for something new. Like, this man probably read ACOTAR for shits in giggles, flew through them because he couldn't believe what he was reading, finishes the series ā loves it at first, probably rants about the subject matter & characters and risky plotlines, but then slowly starts to realize what's wrong with the story as whole because he remembers his own experiences and loses interest, just to return to his nonfiction pieces because they aren't so convoluted.
British Asshole
Let's be real here ā Dorian's a dick. And not in that, "I'm an asshole because I'm doing it on purpose" way. He's a dick because he's British.
Am I generalizing? Yes. Do I care? No. Because, lots of British men have a level of asshole dick-y-ness that just comes with the territory of being a British man.
There is something so unfiltered and assertive with some British men, that I have experienced over and over again, that Dorian truly encapsulates, with his entire being. And here's the thing, if you know this about British men, you don't think their manner of speaking is weird or off putting or rude or cruel. You just know that's how they speak. Bluntly. Unapologetically. Very firm. Best part: There's absolutely no malice behind their words. They just talk like that. Kind of like, how southern people in America always sound so sticky sweet, but that's the mask they wear to cover up any emotion that might come out, to protect themselves. Or like, how Bostonians always sound so angry and mean, but that's their accent making them come off that way and they are actually the most kind people on the planet. Same thing. Except, in this case, it's a British thing.
Thanks, Ben Starr.
Romantic Headcannons
I know I posted these before, but I would love for them to be in one spot. Plus I added more to the existing ones. This also feels quite repetitive as I'm writing, so apologies for that.
Yearning
No shame in this for me. I know what I like and I picked up on the yearning immediately.
Before, I get the ā he's a stuck up door, he doesn't yearn ā Silence! Hector & Eddie aren't the only males that yearn!
I love a quiet yearner. The kind that doesn't make it known until it bubbles over and makes them do stupid things (*Frank Sinatra sings Something Stupid in the background*) and guess what? A friend's everything run & even in a normal run ā it's clear as DAY, this man wanted nothing more than to be seen and appreciated and mean something to someone other than being a 'hot door protector man'. He wanted a friend. He wanted a companion. He wanted someone to put his trust and loyalty in. AND THAT'S WHY HE'S A YEARNER.
I remember reading someone else's take that I completely agreed with. Saying that his yearning would be non-existent and have eyes for no one, until the smallest inkling of doubt makes the smallest wave in his sea of stillness, only for those ripples to become a storm and the feelings take over before he has the chance to stop them. And I do truly think he would stand extremely true to that, only for his needs to have reciprocated love consume him fully and drown him in yearning, and Iā
Oooooā and the amount of times it's obvious he's wanting something so deeply but holds himself back from it ā GETS ME TURNT. On top of that, I fully believe he doesn't think himself worthy of being loved. Like, he thinks he's not good enough or thinks he's unremarkable compared to everyone else in the house and that he's easily forgotten about. Which is why he keeps to his duties, just to feel purpose, while also yearning for something so much more under the surface.
Jealousy
This fucker gets JEALOUS. He mentions jealousy so fucking much throughout the game. It almost seems like jealousy is a kryptonite for him. And I like to think, he downplays that jealousy. Like he makes it seem that his jealousy is an obvious thing but something he has control of. Which, could be correct. But he's clearly self aware enough to know how bad it can get, that he can get away with sugar coating the truth.
I like to think, his jealousy is explosive. I like to think that it can get a little heavy at times. I like to think that his jealousy gets him in trouble sometimes and makes him act out of line. (Hello? Yandere Dorian, is that you? What was that? I'm yours? Sir, yes, sir.)
Attachment & Trust Issues
I didn't go into detail on my original headcannon post, and I'm kind of shocked I didn't. Soā
*Smacks back of door and starts speaking like a 1930s radiohead* This Door, here, can fit all your trust issues and terrible views of attachment, all in one!
That's a joke.
Dorian's issues of attachment and trust is so deep. So deep in fact, he won't shut the fuck up about it. Like, yes, baby boy. We heard you the first time. The quarrels of love & hate aren't worth it... But maybe they are?
I do think as well, if his partner shows signs that they aren't as devoted as he is or they won't give him their entire being, he completely disconnects and leaves it at that. He can up and leave with his feelings left behind. Which is so jarring and gives such a whiplash (like he did in his ending). However, with a comfortable wholesome relationship, I think he needs time to work & buff out his scuffs/chips in his woodwork. He would need constant reassurance, even grounding, that things are safe for him in the beginning. Even throughout, he would need his partner to assure him with the little nuances of their relationship that they will always love him. That way, he always feels safe.
Monogamous
Might get a lot of flack for this, because of the obvious implications over the games entirety... Though, I really can't get flack for it, because Dorian is the closest thing to canon monogamous we will get. This door has 2 endings beyond the normal multiple romance ending - 'Hate Everything' & 'Friend Everything' - that show: if you reject everyone in the house, but then turn around and say you did it for him ā OR ā he was the only one you cared for, he folds faster than a fucking chair. Plus, in the 'Friends Everything' ending, you make him so happy becoming friends with everyone, that he gets all giddy like a school girl and then offers you his heart on a golden fucking platter.
And because of that... I unfortunately don't see him as a polygamous person in love. With friendship, yes. That's natural and normal (I say with 6 best friends and many more friends to boot, as my friendships are deeply cherished to me just as romantic relationships are). Friends are easy. Easy boundaries. Easy conversations. No confusing attachment other than the friendship aspects.
But with love? That's something completely different. Romance is messy, and it really blurs the lines a bit of what's considered run of the mill. Dorian is clearly, very out of touch and has been deeply hurt with romantic relationships. That's extreme vulnerability he hasn't given to anyone in a very long time. And it's clear with his push of friendships, that he cherishes more than anything else, that in love, he could only give that to one person at a time because love is so different than the comforts of friendship.
But... Wouldn't it only be fair and natural for him not to be comfortable with polyamory, as it would only invite his kryptonite called ā jealousy ā and so many other issues if people aren't careful enough... plus, expect the same respect and devotion and commitment of time that he would give the second he's able...
See where I'm going with this?
Look, I understand that the game is for "multiple dating". However, wouldn't it make sense, because the premise of the game, that the one monogamous character WOULD fuck off and leave player character in the dust, because player character would more than likely fuck and love others alongside with him, so he bailed to protect himself and create a distance so he doesn't get himself hurt again? š¶š«„
I fear I can't be wrong when the game itself backs me up with every point of his character...
'Open vs Closed' is very literal for him
I think this applies in multiple areas for his character. Throughout the game, Dorian is an ass some of the time. He's stone cold. He's straight forward. He's blunt and unforgiving in some regards. However, again hinting towards above, the second you show him that he can open up to you, his personality completely flips. He gets emotional (he does cry in canon), flirty, adoring and melts that stone cold exterior to be this fluffy loser that just wants to be cherished.
Because of that however, I do think this applies in love the most. As stated above, he really does hint to be the only monogamous character in the game. Falling deeply in love after the player friendzones everyone. As it's proof the player is like him and he finds comfort in friendship first before being truly open to a relationship.
In that, I say, I think he will literally open up to you if you're true about your love for him... Except, the moment you have your attention on someone else or want to bring more complicated feelings (other people) into the mix, he closes himself down and locks himself up tight. Not to say, he won't "love you". Of course, he will. He just won't give you everything. For his own safety and protection. He'll cater to your wants, especially if that is to bring people in, but there is a guard in him that's impenetrable once that love he wants to give, can't be reciprocated in the same way because there's others wanting your attention and time, and he knows he can't demand anything of you when you're pulled in multiple directions (he's too understanding for that.)
Gets very confused over his feelings
I was gonna put this in story headcannons but then realized this belongs in romance because... I think this is where it fucks him up the most.
With friends, he's fine. No confusion. Very straightforward. No funny business. Just friends being friends.
Now with romance? Watch out folks... The King of slow burn and denial is here. He is, quite literally, the best victim for a slow burn story. You truly can play the, "I'm so dumb about romance" trope for so long, based on the subject material alone. For fucks sake, he confesses at the END OF THE GAME, on his own time.
And because of that, I think Dorian gets very confused about his own feelings all the time. He seems like the type that... Can't really place what certain emotions are, because he deprived himself of feeling anything remotely to those emotions for eons (probably).
Naturally Assertive, but Passive in Vulnerability
This might come off confusing or I might make it sound more complicated than it is, but Dorian is naturally an assertive person. He's proud and confident and uses his natural features to be intimidating. Except, I think deep down, he's afraid to be vulnerable. Extremely afraid to make himself be truly seen, because he becomes a melted puddle of goo and goes against everything he created as his identity.
Possessive & controlling
These... Are qualities I tend to hate in men. Though, when it comes to Dorian, I have two points here which makes this more of a hot mess of a thing for him than the... Obvious shitty trope.
One, doors are literal objects of logical control. They control humans from going somewhere, by letting them in or keeping them out. Then they stand at the front of the house or an establishment, guarding that place from the outside and makes sure that place is safe (he talks about this). Because of this as well, we as humans also see our front door as the beginning of our household possessions and our livelihood.
Two, I think he is very aware of how possessive and controlling he is. Just like his jealousy. Extremely self aware. He knows he can't control the homeowner, no matter how much he would love too. He does get a tad possessive (front Dorian) but ultimately knows that he can't keep you inside the house forever and if you want to leave, then you can.
Because of that, Dorian is aware that he can be possessive and controlling, but that doesn't stop him from trying.
NSFW
Demiromantic & Demisexual
This could have been moved up, but meh. We stan a pure Demi man~
Dick size
A solid 6, nearing 7... But has a girth that you'll be feeling for a few days after, especially with no lube. (He might as well glued your hole shut after a round with him with no lube. Like your pussy ain't going anywhere or doing nothing, it's tired.)
Hair
Cory mentioned this in a HC post, and while I agree with their take, I have to add my own spice to it.
Trimmed. Not fully down, but maintained.
I do like the idea that he keeps a solid bush. I like my men, hairy. Hairy as fuck. Even back hair gets me ROLLING (especially the patch that grows on their small of their backā aaaaa!) and while, I would love to fully subscribe to it, it is quite clear to me that man... Man-scapes (ugh, the horror...) Would I love it if he didn't? Absolutely, but seeing his head full of hair and a beard from the gods, but his body LACKING hair substainally... It's unfortunately clear, that he trims things down. Now, I do think the bush down south is there. I feel the bush would make his dick look less intimidating (as bushes make dicks look smaller) but he keeps it maintained. It's not wild, but it ain't small either. Just the perfect amount of fluff to get choked inā
Top or Bottom?
A pure switch ā Service Top/Power Bottom. He can be dominant, as he not one to say no to be the one on the giving end and showing his partner the love & devotion he has. However, his whole purpose in life is to serve. "It's a pleasure to serve" after all. So in that, I do think he would prefer a more submissive bottom role so that he can be fully doted on. Plus, I find that he would need a lot of reassurance while being more dominant to make sure he's doing everything right. He doesn't want to accidentally hurt you (that would be his grand fear)
Classified: Sex
⢠Things that get him going: body worshipping, devotion, dirty talk (especially if you're naughty about it), indecent touches around his bevels, flirty edging, when you're being bratty/cutesy.
Favorite Positions: missionary (he wants to see your face, ok?), doggie, lap sitting, the lazy lay down, cowgirl (all sides), mating press (this is a personal bias ā crush & suffocate me with your large door bodyā) & standing (door/wall).
⢠Kinks: standard dom/sub, servitude, humiliation/teasing (receiving end), ropeplay (I don't think he'd be against it tbh), marking/breeding, good aftercare,
⢠One round man. (Sorry, not sorry ā I go into more detail on another post)
⢠Would be more down to dry hump & foreplay, than a long fuck.
⢠Very grunty. Very moany. He's old, he creaks when he thrusts.
⢠Is okay with spanking and a soft choke, but wouldn't want to do anything more. (no hurting ā it's not his bag)
Takes him forever to get comfortable with sex
Now, we all know Dorian is a freak. Trap Dorian makes this incredibly obvious. However, I say this in a way as: he will have sex even when he's not comfortable truly, but it's game over when he is.
Like, sure. He'll be down to do it, if you want it. He will put all his energy into making sure you are cared for and that you aren't walking the next morning. However, he's not initiating it. He's not going out of his way for it (like some would be). I think, it takes a deep seated, well committed relationship (Demisexual gang gang), for him to be truly comfortable with letting himself be... Selfish? And by selfish, I mean, lie back and let someone else take care of him. Or even, let himself really fee/ the intimacy with his partner and be that vulnerable. Hell, it took him forever to consider loving the homeowner. So in the matter of sex? I think it would be the same, no going to lie.
Private
I might be crazy for this, but I believe Dorian is more private than the other objects. He's quite closed off overall, and the more you poke at him in his many forms, he opens up more and you do learn some things about him. He does drop hints every so often, but mostly, this guy is very private - about his past, about himself, and about everything.
Thus, I would think sex would be something he's keen to keep private as well.
Sure, yes - his realized love ending, he does "make love" to the homeowner. But, is it wrong to think that - because he's the type to please - he would willingly work against his preference, only to put the most in, to make sure his partner is satisfied and then be done with it. WHICH IS WHAT HE DID BTW. It's kind of cold in a sense to do this, because it begs the question, did it actually mean anything to him? Would it have been different if it was private and there were no other objects in the house? Was it all a performance?
And honestly, yeah. I think so. I truly think, behind closed doors, he is much different. I think it's a whole separate ballgame to be honest.
Delicious headcanons about the door I love that I agree with 100% šš»
