interesting, thank you for the info anon. so they’re basically saying “Come on/you should come too.” hmm, i never thought to check Memoryhead’s lines in Japanese. i just went to look cause i was curious to see the word choice for “us” but from what i can tell it seems they simply dropped that pronoun (since Japanese often does that).

Hello! So I personally do not subscribe to that theory cause it doesn’t jive with a lot of my own ideas about what’s going on - for example, I don’t believe the skelebros came from Deltarune, or that the events of Deltarune occur before/lead into Undertale.

Even aside from that, it would just make more sense to me for it to be his family. It’s in Sans’s basement, which is a hint at Sans’s mysterious backstory, which is very likely tied to Gaster in some way. There are 3 important skeleton characters, and 3 people depicted in the drawing. The figures are smiling, and the skeletons are all associated with smiling due to their permanent grins. It has “don’t forget” which is a phrase that seems to be related to Gaster in some way (like how the song “Don’t Forget” has a bunch of hints at being connected to him)

Given all the above, I would be a little surprised if it turns out the picture is the Fun Gang, who as far as we know at this point don’t seem to have any special connection to Sans. Of course that could well change over the course of Deltarune, but just using the info we’ve been presented with so far, it’s not the interpretation I find to be the most believable one.

I can totally understand why people came to that conclusion, since like you said it appears after Clam Girl mentions Suzy. However I don’t take that to mean Susie is in the drawing - I think it happens then because that was one of the earliest hints at Deltarune within Undertale, and Deltarune in general is heavily tied to Gaster.

afaik the song only comes in English vocals, but in the Japanese version the lyrics are written in Japanese, so that’s where I got the translation from. I found that in this video (starts around 59:22)

yeah that’s what i had assumed too! and i know what you mean about the quotation marks - actually i just looked up some stuff cause it was confusing me

(first one is quotation marks, second is asterisk) i guess in the game they look different from the dialogue dump i was looking at - in fact, its basically the reverse of what they look like in the text dump? huh. yup it could just be the blockiness of his font making stuff look weird 

so...basically just a normal looking asterisk. but here’s what the asterisk is like written in Papyrus’s font in Undertale:

its not a star but a rectangle? the font used in Undertale isnt exactly the same as the papyrus font in say, Microsoft Word but for the most part it’s close. it’s odd how different this particular thing looks

Papyrus actually does use an asterisk a few times in the game - before his Undernet posts, in the signs on his door, and in a couple others spots

(note: it turns out the text dump i was using seemed to switch the way the quotation marks and asterisk looked in the game weirdly enough? the asterisk looks wonky regardless but i should point that out) did Toby deliberately alter the way the asterisk looks? maybe since Papyrus doesnt use an asterisk like the others, he figured it wouldn’t matter idk. it’s still really weird to me though, why bother changing it in the first place?

i’ve wondered what the purpose behind Papyrus's dialogue not being preceded by an asterisk (unlike all the others characters in UT/DR) and now there’s also this strangeness with his unusual looking asterisk.

could this be another mysterious thing thats somehow connected to Gaster? G(aster), aster means star, (aster)isk contain the word and mean “little star”...does Papyrus lacking a proper asterisk/not using an asterisk relate back to the loss of Gaster?? might be a stretch but i’m just trying to come up with a possible explanation for it..

i’m certain that Gaster will be important, and that by extension whatever is going on with the skelebros will be explained too, but a part of me is worried Papyrus will be left in the dust with more focus being given to Gaster and Sans. what if he really is just silly comic relief who isnt meant to be taken seriously or have depth? 

something interesting I noticed in Undertale is the recurring usage of the phrase “the end”

these aren’t the only times the phrase appears but I was looking for places where it’s used in a certain way, referencing what seems to be a specific place?

one interesting thing about Memoryhead is how they refer to themselves as “us” whereas the other amalgamates use singular forms (I/me/my). despite being composed of many different monsters fused together, the others seem to retain a sense of individuality while MH does not. 

this is especially interesting to me cause i’m not sure that Memoryhead is actually a proper amalgamate. i know they are listed as Amalgamates but i don’t know if they have constituent parts aside from Gaster? maybe they do - like i said, they’re very mysterious so i can’t say for sure what’s going on there. it’s possible pieces of different monsters merged together to make them. 

however if they are simply pieces of Gaster like i assume, it’s odd how they’ve split off into a trio, look like they have multiple faces on their ‘bodies,’ and as i said above, speak of themselves in plural form. a couple of the faces even resemble Sans and Papyrus a little too

perhaps it’s reflective of Gaster’s fractured state of mind as Memoryhead. he’s lost his sense of self. i also wonder if MH is trying to recreate something from its past? they call on you to join the fun, say it’s a real get together...what if they tried to form something like a happy little family, based on their former self’s memories? 

during True Pacifist’s credits, it says the Amalgamates are living together with their families. i love the idea of them going with the skelebros but i kinda wonder if Alphys, Sans, or anyone (except Frisk) even knows about their existence. maybe the family MH is with is its own self? 

another neat detail is how it looks like Memoryhead has a phone + cord held up to their head. maybe something else that was taken from Gaster’s memories. or it could just be because the path to sparing them involves using the phone.

i’ve entertained the idea that “Don’t Forget” could be a lullaby - what if it’s a song Gaster made for Sans or Papyrus cause they were scared of the dark?

this sounds like a reference to Papyrus’s sink...but is it meant to indicate the narrator knows about this, or is it just a joke for us players and not supposed to mean the narrator actually knows about his super tall sink from Undertale?? the DR narrator also calls Toriel’s chair “Chairiel” as in UT

then you also get narration like this, which is similar to yet noticeably different from lines in UT

does this mean that the narrator of DR is not Chara but maybe someone who is similar to them?? like Kris? i think it’d be cool if it turned out we were seeing their thoughts all along. 

here for example, that first choice definitely sounds like Kris’s own feelings about reading the anime review - it’s funny cause usually the “Yes” choice is on the left side while here it’s the other way around, they really didnt want to read Alphys’s thoughts on Mew Mew Kissy Cutie 2. (yet the player can make them read the review anyway...truly we are the real monsters)
