10 years ago, one of my favorite albums of all time got introduced to the world. It's crazy to think of how much I've grown looking 10 yrs back, when I was embarrassed about genuinely loving a VERY different type of music compared to what other kids were listening to at the time. The first time I heard Amy sing, when one of my cousins played Rehab for me, I thought she was a black woman because of how powerful and Jazzy her voice was. It was something very unique and different! It was like bringing back the mambo orchestras and updating them. I got very much into this record and I used to play it a lot on my first mp3 player, just for myself. I didn't had a strong connection to the lyrics, but I was fascinated by the sounds. It was later when I experienced the anger, the deception, and devastating depression that Amy sang about on this record. I realized that I really had a deep connection with Amy's emotional Rollercoaster. If I could go back in time, I wouldn't had kept all of this to myself. I would've celebrated Amy's success as a proud fan. But everything about her was completely soaked with negativity. You wouldn't find anything nice being said about her. Everyone seemed to hate her. As much as I felt such a strong empathy towards her persona, I decided to watch instead of standing up for her talent. When Amy passed away, my heart broke into millions of pieces. My dreams of seeing her perform shattered, and I just couldn't believe it. I just wanted to cry all day. As soon as I got home I locked myself away from everything and just played her records nonstop. I never wanted to let go, and welcome the awful idea of Amy not being in this world anymore. So I promised I would NEVER shut up about celebrating what you Love for something so insignificant as other people's opinions about what's right, normal, or wrong. Yeah, she was a druggie, she wasn't a big role model for a kid my age. But no one saw the human side of Amy that I perceived. She always kept it real, humble, human. And she will always have a special place in my heart because she managed to touch it indirectly trough something so simple and very.. There; her music. Thank you, Amy. 💙 #BackToBlack
