I love the colors you use for your art, and thoroughly enjoy that you arent afraid to get 'weird' with it-- do you have any tips on how to color with feeling instead of sticking too much to reality? I feel like im too focused on making things look quote on quote accurate rather than good
HI THANK YOU <333
good ask... scratching my brain. making me have to THINK!!!
1: Overcome your fear of vibrant colors. And I do mean that literally. It took me years of slamming my head into the color wheel to finally set myself free. I used to get genuine anxiety over my art being too loud or silly or childish; this is the devil speaking, and I have since then beaten the devil to death with my bare hands.
2: Realistic does not equal boring. Number one thing that pisses me off about video game/tv/movie art direction is when their idea of "realism" is just brown grey brown grey brown. This is NOT at all what real life looks like. Intense color hides everywhere in plain sight. Our eyes are used to it, our cameras screw with it, either way our perception is often skewed. See impressionism—a practice that seeks to capture reality the way our minds see it, rather than what is most accurate—the results are goddamn beautiful.
3: Filters, blend modes, and color adjustment tools exist for a reason, so use them!! They preserve the relationship between your colors while granting you great control over the mood of the piece. Post-processing is massively important in the creative process, something that professionals in the art industry AGONIZE over. But for whatever reason, I feel like artists have this unspoken taboo that editing your art this way makes it less legit?? Which is once again the devil speaking. Use filters, use editing tools, use them to find freaky juicy colorways that you would never have discovered with the naked eye alone.
In my experience, a limited color palette also helps. When every individual color serves a clear purpose, it unifies the whole piece and really makes it POP!! Plus it reduces workload. You spend less time stressing about the colors if you already know how they'll behave together.
Obviously personal preference comes into play... unsurprisingly I have an affinity for extremely bright eyeball-destroying stuff nowadays. But I do believe that any colors can look good together no matter your taste, as long as those colors have the right contrasts and contexts.

Let's be Slayers together with Papa!!!!!!
(i know this won't come out until the page is out for everyone but i couldn't resist)
The saddest part of this is Jack can never be Slayers with Papa
Jack can only be Slayers like Papa.
Because Papa is dead as hell
Chin’s work also resists treating identity as stable or coherent; instead, it presents it as unevenly acquired and structurally constrained,
Born in 1969 in Malaysia and raised in Singapore, Justin Chin came of age before establishing himself in San Francisco in the 1990s as a poet, essayist, and performer. Over the course of his career — cut short in 2015 following a stroke linked to complications from AIDS — he developed a body of work that persistently examined how the languages surrounding sexuality, race, and identity are produced and circulated through culture. These vocabularies, rather than emerging organically, appear in his writing as learned systems that are absorbed, repeated, and often imposed in ways that obscure their underlying power. Chin’s work also resists treating identity as stable or coherent; instead, it presents it as unevenly acquired and structurally constrained, frequently at odds with lived experience. Across his poetry, essays, and hybrid prose — both published and performed — he refused both simplification and the pressures of respectability that often shape how minority subjects are expected to appear.
idk who needs to hear this but it’s healthier for you to just accept that you’re gonna be kinda fat than it is to live the rest of your life miserably trying to monitor yourself to maintain a skinny weight your body doesn’t want to hold onto
“nothing tastes as good as skinny feels” what feels even better is living a life where your self-worth isn’t entirely dependent on your thinness and you don’t constantly monitor and shame yourself. attaching the tweet that was worth at least five hours of therapy for me
