Willie Nelson and his grandmother, Nancy Nelson, circa 1950. It was Nancy and her husband Alfred (Willie’s grandfather) who took in and raised Willie and his sister Bobbie.  Nancy lived until 1979.  Alfred gave Willie a guitar and taught Willie a few chords shortly before dying in 1940. If only Alfred could have known what that guitar and those chords would grow into!
