Fiber One Bars vs. Candy Bars
Some days I like to grab a Fiber One bar as breakfast if I'm running late in the morning. However, I was recently told that it's basically the same as eating a candy bar. Thus, I set out to investigate.
The result?
Basically, Fiber One bars are way better for you than candy bars, plus they provide that promised fiber to keep you feeling full.

What News Nerds Can Learn from Game Nerds, Day One
Today was the first day of the 10th Games for Change Festival, a conference in New York organized by Games for Change, an organization that seeks to create games with a positive social impact.
If you think about it, positive social impact is a goal that’s similar to ours as journalists. Naturally, as I listened to the diversity of presentations today dedicated to social reach, education, impact and even fighting censorship, I found many lessons that apply to what we’re doing in newsrooms.

HeartSaver

Games from college.
If you wanted to play the games I mentioned at the beginning of my NICAR lightning talk, here they are!
Raining Fruit is a game I created with my friend Carly Ho for a class assignment. The sound of the basket catching fruit is me. Those who knew me while in college know that I constantly wanted to put sound effects into interactives. WHOOSH.
Also, there are many things I was proud during my time as Interactive Editor at NBN, but being the editor on these two games especially were absolute hilarity. Check them out: Got swine? and Cops vs. Streakers. Special thanks to Ryan Reid who was willing to be my co-conspirator on these projects, and who was a brilliant assistant editor who programmed games while I looked for more games we could make.
UPDATE: I should mention on the Got swine game, try the combination: yes, yes, yes, no, no. You’ll see all the possible animations that way.
