Sure I wasn’t the biggest fan but HE WAS PART OF THE STORY DO THEY NOT REALISE THE GAME AS A WHOLE WILL LACK BECAUSE OF HIS ABSENCE?! HE IS RELEVANT TO THE STORY SMH
they should have just delayed his release rather than cancel it altogether. Yes they needed to spend more time on Sylus and Caleb but he is still an essential part of the narrative, his chapter could have been added after their new ones.

Aight we started out with Valko’s cancellation, and now we have more news that allegedly the development team are threatening to leave the company and the real reasons for his cancellation were due to pressure from political powers against the company.
I am very much inclined to agree. After my initial shock I quickly became skeptical about all of this, I have too much knowledge of the kind of meddling that occurs behind the scenes to just accept the party line.
1. Papergames/Infold have not paid attention to any backlash against characters or plot points before.
2. They are currently engaged in a lawsuit regarding Xavier’s 3rd myth companion. They are very likely to lose as it is a clear case of misadvertising.
3. The release of the character was heavily promoted, there was way too much money spent for them to walk it back just due to fan response. Positive global responses outweighed whatever negative response there may have been, even if the money was talking not all of the game’s whales are in China.
4. (Alleged) The development team as shown above were extremely fond of him and put a lot of time and care into his release, which is evident from the promotional materials already, discounting any ideas that it was a marketing stunt or that his release was rushed up and had to be cancelled due to lack of preparation.
5. (Alleged) the company itself is in deep trouble with the Chinese government due to the supposed accidental link to Unit 731. This seems plausible as the country’s history with the Japanese war crimes is wrought with conflict understandably so, however I would like to find evidence of an explicit precedent regarding the government’s response to references to war crimes. The closest I am aware of currently is also within Papergames/Infold, when the Japanese VA for Zayne was fired due to the fact that he was known to visit a Japanese war memorial site, but I’d like to find a precedent specific to references to Unit 731 to gauge whether this response is in line with previous ones, or to begin to define and predict the outcomes of this situation.
Currently as things are…. It’s looking very bleak and there’s a real risk of the game shutting down, which would genuinely break my heart. I’ve barely been able to play lately and I’d lose all the cards I’ve collected, cards I still haven’t played and watched, and I’d… never get to see the story resolve. The devs do not deserve this. The fans do not deserve this. The characters do not deserve this.
I can’t watch another Voltron happen.

Omg thanks for @ing me the information about the developers leaving and a lawsuit for Xavier's myth companion are the only things I didn't know about. (I just woke up so I might go back to edit some things for clarification later)
1. Whenever a company does a stunt like this it's always to take your eyes off stuff happening in the background. So I knew they weren't removing a character purely because of one server not liking them especially when we all saw how they've previously responded to backlash from the Chinese players.
2. I'm sad too if this means the end of LADs. But at the same time I'm kinda relieved. Seeing how Infold has been running when it comes to the issues the game has I truly don't believe we were ever going to get the things we've been asking for (more ways to f2p, lighting issues for dark skinned players, better 4 star card stats, etc.).
3. There's not much we can do for them especially since this is the fault of the executives. I just feel so sad for everyone involved who have to suffer from their poor choices ☹️

lack of consideration for a "woman's game" that women's rights organizations in China authorized lads to be banned from major gaming conventions
Chinese news outlets began speaking out on lads, and the apple ios store in China made an announcement because lads got down to a 1.2 star rating and on ios, if an app gets below a 1.4, its subject to removal
The mention of 731 is illegal (unit 731, during WWII Japan committed biomedical torture upon Chinese and Korean citizens).
CN players are advocating for EOS now rather than just getting Valko getting removed
Infold already released a solemn statement on June 29th, so it's incredibly suspicious that they decided getting rid of one character would essentially get rid of all of the backlash when it was clearly bigger than the character immediately it was literally about the illegal references:

Thoughts on the recent LADS livestream, Paperfold's "apology", the issues with the game, and why I have decided to leave it
(This will be very ranty and long lmao, so feel free to ignore if you're happy or content with how things are. I am just venting my own frustrations and my disappointment. All opinions here are my own. Also, just to make things clear right out of the gate, this is not a Valko hate post. I can't say I care for the dude or that I don't have my problems with him, but he as a character is the least of my issues. If you enjoy him, cool 👍🏻)

And 20 Deepspace tickets, half of which are useless to a huge chunk of players (tickets which, btw, are the very same ones that we got as an "apology", now labeled as a "thank you" gift. Genuinely fuck off)
No new sustainsble ways to farm dias
No mention of the missing content
No lunar shop updates
No chocolate shop updates
No affinity update
No roadmap for the main story
No fixing of the lighting issues
Not even a NDZ rerun for Sylus' second anniversary
Hell this "major update" had none for the OG3. They were utterly sidelined
This was such a nothingburger and slap in the face
And quite honestly, it's the last straw for me. I think I'm done with this game. It fucking sucks to have to type that, and it genuinely hurts me after all the money and time and emotional investment I've put into this game. But it's the truth.
I'm a paying customer. I've spent well over 1000 dollars on this game. I've supported it in the ways I can. Yet for a year or so now I feel as though I've not gotten much in return. It truly feels as though Paperfold does not give a flying fuck about any of us, their own game and characters included.
That said, I can't say that this livestream came as a shock. That "apology" that Paperfold issued yesterday all but confirmed to me that they have not been listening to any of our complaints and concerns (or just simply not cared). It confirmed that the livestream would be a nothingburger. The "apology" was a form of damage control, a way of letting us know that we shouldn't get our hopes up. It confirmed to me that not only would there be no mention of Sylus' and Caleb's missing content but that there, as a matter of fact, IS NO MISSING CONTENT. They don't have it. They NEVER had it.
Which is just so massively disappointing and so scummy. Sylus and Caleb were never advertised as premium MLs, but as fully on par with the OG3. As such, they should have the same amount of BASE CONTENT(!!!) as the other MLs. That should be a no brainer. As things stand, they are falsely advertised. When I joined the game (which I did solely for Sylus) I expected to be on equal grounds as OG3 mains. That is, that I'd have the same "starter pack" (ie BASE CONTENT). Two years later, Sylus mains still sit with less than half of the base content than the OG3 players. It is the same for Caleb mains (who additionally haven't had a MS update since he was launched January 2025).
This is unacceptable, and as someone who only joined FOR SYLUS, to see his crucial content still sidelined and ignored, to see my money being used for the creation of a 6th LI that I did not want (and also for multibanner after multibanner instead of advancing the LORE AND STORY) instead of upon improving further upon Sylus or at least the existing 4 LIs, I just genuinely do not see the point in playing the game anymore.
As for the "apology"... where to even start?

We've been writing to them nonstop since 2024 about our concerns and complaints. Yet they've been radio silent until now, and the only reason that they still aren't is because the CN fanbase finally had enough and mass boycotted their ass, and are making them lose a million followers on CN socials. A number which keeps growing.
And yet all they say is basically "We're sorry you feel this way :(( but rest assured we'll keep doing exactly what we always have! So just trust us bro and in the meantime have these 20 deepspace tickets (we love spoiling you, remember? ♡). And don't forget to log into the game and give us your money ^^♡"
Moving on to direct quotes

This part especially triggers alarm bells. Because to me it indicates that Valko will not be the last LI. Instead of developing and further exploring the LIs we have, they'll keep adding more and more and more. Our LIs will be left to rot on the wayside. Their relationships with MC will not be explored to their fullest extent. We will lose precious pulls as the odds worsen the more LIs are added. Demands on storage will increase. Etc.
"The development of Valko and his related content is part of the long-term content plan for Love and Deepspace"
If long-term means well post launch, then sure. Otherwise, this just can't be true. Where was Valko during the demo? Where has he ever been hinted at during the main story? Where was his name under the trademarks? Where was his name mentioned or hinted at in this official Q&A back in January of 2024?
The answer to all the above is Nowhere.
The fact of the matter is that ALL of the other LIs were demonstrably planned from the get go. They are all present or hinted at in the demo. They are all present or foreshadowed in the early main story. None of them were dropped on us from the sky out of nowhere like Valko. We have no tangible connection to the guy. At the very least he should have been revealed to us months in advance through officisl statement or through an early (even brief) appearance in the main story.
"The Main Story chapters you have been waiting for are currently in active development."
If it's in active development, then why are you in the process of hiring script writers? Why didn't you talk about the actively developing story in the livestream instead of just sliding in that still and vague af image and call it a day? Doesn't sound like something that's in very "active" development to me. Just be honest and say you just started working on it this weekend as a result of the drop in profit and the review tanking lmao. But hey I can be wrong and if so my bad. But honestly what reason do I have to have faith in this company at this stage? And with the amount of money this company has, the main story should have been completed and out by now if they had actually cared about it ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ just saying
"The stories of Farspace Colonel Caleb and Onychinus Leader Sylus will continue, and the new series of Solar-Slot Memories will also be arriving soon."
When is "soon" though? Could be next year or 2030 for all we know. Just give us a. fucking. schedule. and. roadmap.
Also look at the way they highlight the paid content (the myths) but completely ignore the free stuff (bonds, anecdotes ie THE MISSING CONTENT WE'VE BEEN ASKING FOR FOR OVER A YEAR ATP). Because the paid content is all they seemingly care about (and because free stuff for Sylus and Caleb likely doesn't even exist). They find time and resources to pump out multibanner after multibanner, yet somehow have no time or resource for the main story or branches or anecdotes or bonds etc (aka the FREE STUFF).
This "apology" is not an apology.
It's an insult. For all the reasons I've laid out and more.
It's insulting to believe that their consumers will abandon a justified boycott for 20 (really 10) measly tickets.
This should be enough to let everyone know how this company sees you.

The "apology" already made me think it was time for me to leave the game. The livestream cinched that thought.
Because even if this CN boycott manages to turn things around and force the company to improve their severely flawed product, what's to say we won't be facing this exact situation again in two years or less? Like I've said before, Paperfold have given me no reason to trust them. Time and again they've shown nothing but biblical greed and utter disregard for their consumers. They push paid content on us, decrease the length of multi banners, refuse to give us ways to farm, gives us less and less rewards, leave the choco chop to rot, make false advertisements, drop new LIs on us out of nowhere while ignoring things like Caleb's main story update and the content gap for him and Sylus, then sideline the 5 LIs (the characters we've PAID for) entirely in the 6.0 version.
Other gacha games have regular main story updates, events, character side stories, side quests etc. But not LADS. Here you either pay up or you get no content. It's legit diabolical.
With this livestream they had the opportunity to reach out to us and finally communicate. Instead, they opted to spend about a quarter of an hour playing music. They could have addressed the numerous issues once and for all.
But they didn't. And that tells me everything I need to know about their priorities and how much they care about you and me and their game.
I'm just burnt out atp. I don't have the patience to wait for justice nor the incentive to play a game where my time and money is ill rewarded and even spat upon. That's genuinely how I feel.
I still love Sylus. I will still support fanart and fanfics of him. I will support my fellow crowgirls as they pour their love into a character that has meant and still means so much to us. But I can't and I won't support the game that made him. At least, not until the game returns to what it used to be.
As for Valko, I'll just say this; I was never excited about the prospect of a 6th LI. Having seen his trailers, I still am not. If you are, then that's great.Neither this rant nor my decision to quit the game is motivated by him as a character, but rather the way he's been handled and was dumped on us out of nowhere. I will add though that I genuinely don't see how his meeting with MC (breaking into her apartment) could ever work in the established canon. Neither Sylus nor Caleb (both of whom keep close tabs on MC at all times) nor especially literal upstairs neighbor Xavier would let that shit fly. But the writers forgot I guess
And speaking of forgetting canon
Who put my man in an apron?? The man is canonically adamant about not wanting to wear one, even when MC wants him to.
(This is a joke btw. I know it's a universal outfit so technically not a canon one. I just wanted an excuse to put in an image of my husband)

It's a shame it had to take so much bs to get them to concede this. A schedule like this is a long time coming and would have cost them nothing to deliver on from the get go.
That's the saddest part. That all of this upset was completely unnecessary. Had they handled things better and treated their consumers with more thought and consideration and basic respect, then things would never have been pushed this far. Success made them arrogant. Arrogance made them careless.
Paperfold further states here in this apology that "We have decided to cancel both the launch and any further development of the new love interest. We also commit that no additional love interests will be introduced in future content plans."
Now, I will readily acknowledge that I have always been against further LIs and that I hated the way Valko's reveal was handled (because it came out of butt fuck nowhere). That said, I still feel for anyone who were excited for him. It fucking sucks that things turned out the way they did, but again, it's all due to Paperfold's own mishandling of things. They alone are to blame for all of this. The CN girlies (and global fans) were right to be furious at their continued lack of communication and refusal to address or fix any concerns and issues that have continually been reported to them. Even so, I get the disappointment Valko fans must feel right now and I sympathize. You've the right to be upset. You've also been failed
As for me, I still have no plans to return to the game. But I do hope that this apology from Paperfold will signal a change for the better. I hope they've realized that communication is key and that you cannot continually trample on your consumers without pushback.
I want this game to improve and be better. Seeing it all go down in flames would have been devastating after all the promise it had.
Again, it sucks that things had to go this far. There aren't really any winners here.
I also want to add that I don't think completely nuking Valko from the game feels like the right move at this stage? Idk I just think pushing his release back a couple of months while they fix the numerous issues with the game would be a lot better. Deleting him now is cruel to the people who were actually looking forward to Valko, cruel to his dev team, cruel to his VAs, cruel to his mocap actor.
Tbh I suspect removing Valko (who's inevitably been put in the line of fire) is a way for Paperfold to try to take attention away from the numerous issues that are still present and unaddressed. I think they're hoping that this major move will appease the CN side (which from all I've read, it has not. The CN boycott is still in place, afai, and players are still upset. This fixed nothing, and from the looks of it only divided the fanbase further. Which might be the point).
Which brings me to the fact that this apology doesn't really fix the major issues we've been writing to them about for years? 30 wishes ain't gonna cut it. Like yeah, communicating is a first step, but there are a lot more that needs to be addressed and fixed.
There especially needs to be an apology and proper explanation for 731 because rn that is still a major source of upset with the CN fanbase (understandably so. Like I cannot stress how evil Unit 731 truly was or how badly Paperfold fucked up by, inadvertently or not, referencing it in that WU chapter).
The more I sit with this statement by Paperfold, the more issues I have with it. Not that I was happy with it to begin with. It certainly didn't sway me to consider returning to the game
