Hey Tumblr, itâs been awhile. Here is a new series of sculptures I made called Bitter Sweeties (based on Precious Moments) for my first solo show at Gallery 1988. There are three other series in the show, and you can see them all HERE. Few pieces are still available for purchase. The show can be seen in person at Gallery1988 East until October 15th.
While weâre on the subject of Brad Hill, almost every piece heâs delivered over the past few years has sold out in minutes. This Urkel piece remains! And if you use the code SALE during checkout, you get it for $225. Check out all the pieces you can now get 25% off on at nineteeneightyeight.com/collections/sale
âSalvageâ My piece for Art Awakens at Gallery1988, in partnership with Lucas Film, Disney, and Bad Robot. Art Awakens is auctioning off original artwork and selling prints to benefit a great cause. While recovering from the Battle of Endor, Wicket commemorates the day's events on a downed AT-ST.

As you may know, last week I landed face-first in a scooter crash, which cracked and smashed my chompers pretty bad, as well as some other bodily injury. Iâm a student with no dental insurance, so getting the initial stitches, tooth cap, and temporary braces set me and my family back quite a bit, and now it looks like Iâm going to need a root canal for the tooth that is now quickly darkening and dying in my mouth.Â
SO! If you want a cool screen printed shirt that will help offset the cost of all these procedures, please head over to posalootly.storenvy.com. Preorders end tonight, Friday Nov 13, and the price will go up tomorrow. If you donât like the design or any of the current prints in the store, hit me up for a commission, or come back next week when there will be some new prints and some originals.Â
TL;DR: Please help an uninsured artist not spiral into debt if you can! posalootly.storenvy.com

My piece âNewtâ inspired by Guillermo Del Toroâs Pacific Rim. If you love Charlie Day, and have thought âI wish I owned a small Charlie that I could take anywhereâ then now is your chance! (Photo by Eric Tengren)
Making of âNewtâ
Sketch: Itâs rare, but sometimes for these official shows, artists are asked to submit a sketch of what they plan on doing. Unless asked, I practically never sketch anything out. Iâm not great at putting what I see in my head down on paper. The sketch got approved.
The Figure: I always start with the character, no matter what my overall design is. Typically, I make the head and body separately. First I make the head, and the body comes second. Iâll then join then with epoxy glue, give it a coat of primer, and get to painting.
Pedestal Item: A lot of my pieces involve a pedestal item that the character stands on. This gets made second. For this piece, I needed a jar, and finding one that was the right size AND had a usable lid was a challenge. I ended up creating my own lid out of wood, after a failed attempt to make it out of clay. After creating/painting the specimen that goes inside, I had to start pouring in the resin. The resin had to be done in one inch-layers to prevent it from distorting within the glass. I glued the specimen to the lid for the first layer so it would later be held in place by the hardened resin. The resin cured for one day between each additional layer.
Base: This base was a bit more elaborate than I was used to doing. I needed the jar to fit inside a mouth and the teeth would be too fragile if I used the clay sculpt I had made. The solution to that was to make a mold of the sculpt, and then make a large resin cast of the teeth. This basically gives me a plastic-like replication. After gluing the cast to the wood base with epoxy glue, I blended the cast with the base using a self-hardening epoxy clay (the gray areas of the base in that pic). Once hardened, I primed/painted.
Assembly: Finally, all three sections of the piece are held together with an epoxy glue. For extra security, a dowel runs through the lid of the jar into the character. Final Piece

WIP shots of Clue Collectibles The figures cannot be removed from the piece. Please ignore the fake price tag I had temporarily placed on the piece. Was going for a â1+1+2+1âł joke, but it felt too out of place, so I removed it.
