[ cody christian / 31 / homosexual / cismale / he/him / half-veela ] ⸻ layne lovelace, is currently employed at wickerby academy of magical advancement as a professor of healing spellwork within the college of magical medicine & healing arts. they were born in boston, massachusetts, but currently reside in boston, massachusetts while teaching at wickerby. colleagues and students alike know them to be patient & charming, though beneath that reputation lies someone capable of perfectionist & a worrywart. whether respected, feared, or quietly watched by the academy itself, their place within wickerby is undeniable. their research currently focuses on the importance to have someone with at least basic knowledge of healing added to every field operative, and whether by ambition or obligation, they remain deeply tied to the institution and the secrets buried beneath it. ⸻ 

kas' muscles were telling him it was time for a break. the man was cockily flexing his impressive biceps with a big grin at the 'crowd' that had been around the little dueling station. he decided to take sometime to get something to drink and eat and relax. he's practically been dueling all night so far. and he's ready to take a little bit of a break. as fun as it is, he wants to relax a little bit. so he decided to take some time to chill. he ends up walking a little bit and grins as he comes across someone else.

"hello there, handsome," he says with a big grin on his face. "you enjoying the festivities around here? any matches catch your eye? don't be afraid to say mine." he jokes with a wink and a laugh.

“oh fuck yeah!” a large and wide grin came upon kas' face as he managed to best his opponent in the little dual that the two of them were having. his opponent ended up getting thrown back after kas casts the everte statum charm. “another one bites the dust!” not to say that kas didn't have his own battle scar. most notably, the fact that his shirt had ended up blasted off of his body. not that kas minded though. he lifts his arms up and grins as he flexes to a large (and mostly imaginary) crowd with a goofy grin on his face. this is why he loved the midnight convocation. he got to duel a lot and test his strength against some of his fellow students before the year officially started.  

deciding to take a break, he grabbed some water after sliding his shirt back on. he decided to leave it unbuttoned while he cooled down, and happily took a few gulps of water. the muggleborn let out a happy sigh as he lowered the glass and looked to the side as he heard someone approaching him, and a grin came onto his face. 

“you enjoyed the show, cutie?” 

kas manansala always loved a good thrill. and a duel was just about as good as it gets. which is why he loves the little celebration tonight. the muggleborn loves to see the dueling matches all around. loves to see his fellow students doing the thing he loves, even the people who may not even be majoring in combat magic. after all, even the most unlikely of people can prove to be competent. it was how he found his affinity for combat magic and defensive magic, after all. his own shirt left unbutton after

he was watching a duel when he saw one of the guys best the other. when the two finished, kas grinned. "that was an intense duel, bro. good job." it didn't matter if the man won or lost, it had still been a bad ass duel in kas' eyes. "you done for the night, or you still plan on doing more duels?"

kas let out a grunt as he stretched his body and allowed all of the kinks in his joints to pop. he was taking a small break from dueling after doing so many matches so quickly. and perhaps getting a little thirsty and famished. so he decided to seek out the snacks. most of the people were wearing their suits and formal wear, and kas was technically still wearing his. it was just unbuttoned to allow him a bit more mobility when he was dueling. plus honestly, stiff clothing like this? not necessarily his style.

he saw the snack section and grabbed a plate to begin loading up. and he noticed he wasn't alone. "you enjoying yourself?" he asked with a big grin. "personally, i am. seeing all these people dueling and showing off their skills. gets the blood pumping for sure." he says with a chuckle. "had to take a pause so i can eat. not really interested in dueling with my stomach cramping." he says with a big grin on his face.

layne lovelace was relaxing in a chair as he watched people do their matches, a almost fond smile on his lips. being a healer was nice and all, and he's excited to be teaching. but he would be lying if he said that he wasn't a little envious of the dueling. after spending so long helping people do field work and seeing the excitement there, he got a little use to the adrenaline rush. but he's also excited for his first year of teaching. of helping the next generation of people who want to be healers.

the half-veela grunted as he pushed himself off of his chair and brushed his suit. smiling and nodding politely at a few people as he walked and made his rounds. introducing himself to professors, staff, and students alike. "you know, the gathering is through the door," he teases playfully as he steps out for a moment and notices someone else. "or did you need some time alone as well?"

it's definitely been awhile since layne's had to do the whole dance of being in a social scene. he's more used to being out in the field and attempting to keep people alive from dangerous creatures, traps, or rogue wizards. so the half-veela will admit that he's a little out of practice. thankfully, the veela half of himself is naturally charming and charismatic and he thinks that it is definitely helping him just make it through this night. but he did want to make a good first impression, especially with this going to be his first year as a professor.

he slipped through the crowd gracefully and found himself in front of another professor. a smile graced his lips as he did a small nod to the other man. "hello," he says with a small smile, "you enjoying the evening and it's festivities?" he asked as he gestured around.

luis' eyes continued scanning the room as he watched everyone interacting, mingling, and dueling. making sure to try to catalogue who was interacting with who. a soft sigh escaped his lips as he shook his head. as... 'nice' as interacting with people is? luis needs to figure out what's going to be the power structure this year and how to adapt to it.

luis within the last few years got attacked and changed into a vampire. something that his family was now happy about, and loved to blame him for. as if he chose to be trapped like this. so he needed to help bring his family's influence up. they were a top family, sure, but they were towards the bottom of the top. and luis needs to find a way to get himself to be invaluable to his family so they don't disown him.

"ah, sorry," so lost in his thoughts, he ended up brushing against someone. he let a smile grace his lips. "my mind was somewhere else."

luis was happy to socialize at this event. the dueling thing though? honestly, luis would have been more than happy to do without. his magic is personally more subtle. he doesn't specialize in brawling magic, which definitely gives an advantage in a duelist setting. but so far he's been able at having to do to many duels. having won one although even that had been a close call for the vampire.

"congrats," he tells the other with a nod of his head and a smirk. "on your victory, i mean. well fought or whatever it is the brutes say." luis says with a chuckle and a tilt of his head.
