Introduction:
The rigorous nature of STEM programs often results in heightened stress, burnout, and adverse health outcomes for students, which can significantly affect their academic performance and overall well-being. This proposal seeks to investigate the potential advantages of implementing alternating class schedules that strategically integrate challenging and less intensive courses. Such an approach aims to foster a more balanced workload, thereby improving both academic outcomes and students’ mental and emotional health.
This study will gather comprehensive insights from students regarding current scheduling challenges, including class frequency, course load, and assessment timing. By identifying these factors, we aspire to develop effective solutions that address the specific needs of STEM students.
Moreover, the research will examine the possible benefits of a flexible schedule that encourages student participation in collaborative study groups, provides access to mental health resources, and facilitates involvement in extracurricular activities that promote a sense of community and belonging. By exploring diverse scheduling models such as alternating between intensive coursework and more interactive, lighter classes, this study aims to formulate recommendations that could alleviate the pressures faced by students in STEM disciplines.
