End of an era.
Today, seven years ago I decided to post my first public post of a sims story. Today, I posted my last one.Β
Seven years of falling in love with my characters, telling their love stories and yes, learned making poses to tell their stories of falling in love. I am retiring as a storyteller in the sims community.Β
What does this mean? Am I retiring as a posecreator too?Β
It means that one of my huge inspiration of making (and releasing) the poses I need, isn't there anymore. You maybe don't know my sims their stories, but you see my beloved pixel people every week, in my posepack previews.Β
I hear you thinking.. "Irene, why are you being so vague? Be clear about what you are doing with your poses!"Β
To be honest, I just don't know how the upcoming period is going to be. So yes, maybe this is my retirement as a posecreator, but maybe also not and I still can find ideas and will continue releasing poses (just not consistently).Β
I still will be around in the sims (pose) community, I hope I fall back in love again with just playing sims (I haven't really played sims in years). I will keep maintaining the poses masterlist on tumblr, will probably be using other people's poses if they release something fun too. All because I have this huge love for the characters I created and can't just abandon them.Β
I made this decision about 3 months ago and I had 3 months to come to a conclusion for myself what I'm doing with posing, but I just don't know what I want and maybe I'm also a little scared to call it quits. Because for me, hobbies mostly fade away quietly into another and I basically have nothing else currently. And I always need to have a creative outlet to make myself happy. I do have a huge gaming and reading backlog, because the 6 years I was being storyteller and posecreator, I've sacrificed a lot for it, too. Did I take being consistent too serious? Probably. But I don't regret a thing, because it also brought me where I was.Β Also a reason I don't really know if quitting is a good decision for myself is that I finally felt like I belonged somewhere. Something I felt somewhat confident about. Something I felt like I was "good at". Yes, in cursive, because I still learn everyday how I can make a pose better, improve small details in looking more natural.
For now, I will be finishing these amazing poses for both the family and the ultimate romance pack and I can't promise you anything, but I do want to try to make my (last) fifth Santareen advent calender this december πΒ because 5 sounds better than ending at 4. I also keep my commissions open, because I love to make people happy and be helping people out. I know there are a lot of other posecreators doing commissions, so the market is a little bit flooded. Just know I am available <3
So, total retirement.. probably not yet, but don't be surprised I will be ending my sims posing journey in the near future.Β
I want to end with one important advice: please tell your favorite (free) cc/mods/posecreators you love their work. Leave a comment, it's very rare these days and it is making a difference for artists.
They need it, sometimes a little more than you think.
Don't take it for granted.
