i kind of forget the general portrayal of derek is him being cool and badass and mysterious all the time like Genuinely. to me the most important thing is that he looks really cool and serious on the surface and then the second you look a little deeper he is, at heart, a guy who watched so much anime as a teenager that he adopted all the mannerisms and now he has to do cool monologues and act mysterious all the time. to me he's like those posts "trying to be mysterious at school then finding out everyone just thinks im autistic"

his cool mysterious intrigue is so performative. he is incredibly awkward when the persona is stripped away. like come on

The part where he fails a boat clutch in the cipher poem room and then immediately starts pulling all his taunting while solving it. Including hits such as "this isn't trivial...you really put in effort here, didn't you?" "nice poem..but cipher stacking is pretty bad practice you know" "this is a combination lock i take it? unfortunately for you...i have a pickaxe" (immediately fails to censor name properly) all of this is made even funnier with.

THE PART IN DAWTDE WHEN THE KING TRAPS HIM IN THE evil scary red world AND HE DOES THE "if i cant escape with your logic...ill escape with MINE...because unfortunately for you..while i may be in your world...were still playing minecraft...so for all intents and purposes...youre in MY domain...at the end of the day...minecraft is a GAME...if theres a way out...then i can find it. according to all the logic ive seen so far...but if im to trust minecraft...and all of MY logic..." come on. he pulled the "according to all my logic...heh"
