Deathless Violets editorial team here with a quick update on the zine! Originally, we’d expected to have our final selections made in time to send out acceptance emails this week - however, it’s looking like we’ll be sending those out a little closer to the end of the month.

To be honest with y’all, we’ve been absolutely blown away by the number (over 700!) and quality of submissions we received for this little project. Our small but devoted team has been reviewing and discussing your pitches and portfolios, and it’s become clear that we just need a bit more time to give all of your work the attention it deserves!

Currently, we’re hoping to have our final decisions locked in by the end of the month, and will send out those updates as soon as we can! The team is still ironing out what this means for the zine’s production schedule, and will be sure to send out an updated timeline as soon as it’s available. Please rest assured, we fully intend to give all creators the same amount of time to finish your work once you’re accepted.

Thank you for your patience, and thank you so much for your passion for sapphic art. We’re truly honored and excited to bring this project to life!

Asa Clematis is a talented healer, but not the medical kind. She's a mage healer, and a damn talented one at that. But in a country where healers are commodified to serve mages, that's not necessarily a good thing.

But this also makes Wisteria's magic the most difficult to treat, a task Clematis takes willingly when they befriend each other and eventually grow to something more.

Imagine her surprise then, when the Kraken- the woman who betrayed her- shows up one day, her legendary powers all gone. With the promise of parole dangled, Clematis takes the challenge to get her magic back, but can she forego the seven years of anger that have been building since the day the Kraken betrayed her...

I don't know how to say this, but how do you call yourself a lesbian and then just proclaim you're fundamentally repulsed by and disinterested in narratives that centre women's relationships. How is the only "butch4butch" headcanon that you can ever conceive derived from men and male characters, yet you will sneer if people interpret canon lesbians as butches.

As a butch with dysphoria who loves (and in fact prefers) butch4butch dynamics to fem wlw stories myself, I just think we need to do some sincere self-examination about what the issue really is, and why being alarmingly critical or straight up dismissive of lesbian and/or women's cinema, literature and culture in broad generalizing strokes–while hiding behind the argument of gender presentation–is a deceiving and misogynistic tactic. "Shipping is not activism" is just whataboutery for avoiding your uncomfortable biases and prejudices. Your marginalized identity doesn't absolve you of internalized misogyny. If you were genuinely interested in the interiority of lesbians, you would seek out lesbian stories, and find that a lot of what you are whining about already exists–you're just too busy writing Heated Rivalry fanfic to acknowledge it.
