Well
Well I just graduated college today, not a student anymore (for the foreseeable future hehe) ^^ idk what's gonna happen here i mean I've already kinda abandoned this 'studyblr' but I'm always active on my side account. It was nice while it lasted. I still use this account but don't interact etc. Well, congrats to međŠâđ
can we get more Billie Eilish vogue photo thoughts? i donât think they are âempoweringâ.
Honestly no matter how badly we might want it to be doing a photoshoot dressed in risquĂŠ barely-clothing will never be empowering ... it can make you feel empowered while still being the opposite of such. sheâs her own person and she could very easily find it empowering and freeing but i just find it really weird, this timeline of things. they shot a dramatic video just a month after she turned 18 of her removing her baggy clothes, made a very big showcase out of it even though she could have generated around the same amount of publicity by just walking on stage or to an event in a tank top. the dramatization and sexualization of it was not necessary. i find it really hard to believe she just within some weeks of turning 18 became okay with having her body put up everywhere like that when it was such a massive insecurity... she captioned some of the individual posts from the shoot in a way that seemed passive aggressive, her single from her upcoming album is about being groomed, and i just donât think itâs how a 19 year old should be styled. but obviously whether youâre for or against it it benefits her & her management & label severely. So thatâs the point. itâs just sad that itâs been made that the only surefire way to make a young girl to keep getting widely successful promotion & attention is via exploiting her body. especially when that was a boundary she had stated she didnât want to cross before
I mean it's HAS to make you wonder how everything is timed so conveniently in terms of a new album which hasn't been doing as well as expected. There's also the push for the concert montage of stripping to prove a point that isn't there and since the pandemic railed that opportunity it's now being turned into a single. If it was really about the message and not marketing of a product then the pandemic wouldn't have stopped it in its track to only continue when the new album is ready to be promoted while still being in the pandemic. It shouldn't have taken a whole year to drive the same meaningless point again if it was really about the importance of the message and not the sale of a white privileged product. Other 4 songs have largely not done nearly as well as it was expected. After a whole year of silence there come sudden very attention grabbing moments just in time for the album promotion. Finding liberation in your own body whether it's in a full covering garb or a piece of handkerchief on your body should be your call and totally respectable but it shouldn't be turned into a moment of 'liberation for all women' when you fall in the most privileged section of it all. Don't speak for the rest when you're always a priority in society and others can be termed disposable as the situation demands. Other women will get killed in the clothes you can expect largely to be celebrated in. (this is about the billie situation only and not the op's reply just in case there's any confusion)
I find it so insane that the feminist movement has somehow regressed/lost its meaning so much that people are like âitâs actually really feminist for a teenage girl to be styled in lingerie & stockings and if you think itâs weird you must be the weird one! Exploitation is empowermentâ and several million women will be like yeah i agree
The girlboss culture is way more problematic than people realise. It's creating conflicts within a moment that intends to collectively liberate women which shouldn't be done by giving into the patriarchal notion of less clothes meaning more liberation especially for teens and yes 19 is still teen. White woman feminism is so shitty in creating first world problems while actual marginalised women suffer because of the notions white privileged women 'liberate' themselves from. You're not helping any marginalised women by taking a stance against the oversexualization of women by sexualizing yourself you're just trying to solve a problem by giving into the patriarchy's demands from you to sexualize yourself for the male gaze.
Women are killed everyday for not covering up enough and you covering yourself to not be sexualized isn't a girl boss moment nor is you taking your clothes off and calling every woman a hoe for exercising her choice and that they should be proud of it which is exactly what patriarchy wants helping any of the women you think you're helping.
White women shouldn't take a stand for the rest of womanhood when they're the most privileged out of all. Your white privilege is largely the reason you got where you are so don't take that position of power granted so freely to you to decide for what the less privileged and marginalised women's idea of liberation should be.
