IT IS NOT JUST VOICE DROPS!!

—often times when i see people write about ftm chars, they write them the way theyd write cis women other than voice drops or talking abt dysphoria (in a general way). whats important to consider is that testosterone has wayyy more effects than that, it's basically male puberty

EFFECTS ON TESTOSTERONE

these come from my own experience, research, and seeing other transmen's experiences

REVERSIBLE

—FAT REDISTRIBUTION : i used to have a really flat stomach pre-t but had hella thick thighs. the fat on your thighs can/will be redistributed to your stomach and (from my experience) below the chin. Youll get muscle mass on your limbs due to that, which i noticed after 4 months being on t. the breasts will also get smaller, significantly or not. it depends on your cup-size, really. i was a b-cup and it shrank to a, but many trans men with c-cups or larger barely had shrinkage, or any at all.

— MENSTRUATION/PERIODS : It will disappear. Im deadass. It usually happens 2 months on t, but mine stopped after a month (i was irregular so it couldve also took part). some transmen experienced having 'phantom cramps' which basically means cramps during days they would have their period, but no bleeding or other symptoms.

— LIBIDO : youll get very horny. like veryyy. i was never interested in sexual things unless it was for jokes, but after going on t my libido increased a lot. it happened to me around 2 months on t as well (2 months is where i started experiencing the changes).

— SKIN : doesnt matter the age, you will be getting acne again just like when you were 11-13. mine was 3 months in, some people earlier. it's not just on the face, it also spread in other parts like your chest, back, shoulders. typically it peaks at within the same time-range you get acne during your first puberty. your skin will also get oilier (and thicker) so as someone who already had oily skin, it was hell. remember that these can always be treated and are not different from the average acne/oil.

—ANGER ISSUES : it can be a sudden change, or develop gradually. point is that a lot of ftm people will experience mood swings, especially negative ones which is a natural part of puberty for both men and women. theyll get more irritable and there would be higher chances of them lashing out

NON-REVERSIBLE/PERMANENT

— VOICE : youll really notice it deepen 3-5 months in testosterone. even before that your voice will be cracking often due to the vocal chords thickening. ik damn well a lot of youg transmen that want to take t already researched this enough so i neednt say more

—HAIR : it depends on genetics, but hair texture on the scalp, face, and body will change. a lot of people say that their scalp hair became thinner and stiffer, but in my experience it was the opposite and it became thicker. facial hair will grow not just on areas like the chin and upper lip, but also the cheeks and in front of the ears (sideburns). same goes for body hair; if you havent already, you'll grow thicker/darker hair on your arms and legs as well as the stomach area.

— CLITORAL ENLARGEMENT : it doesnt exactly grow to the size of a dick, but moreso a miniature version of one. it starts during the first year then maximizes in the second.

NOTES

when writing about dysphoria — remember that it's not just about the character looking or feeling like a woman look-wise. it also includes being portrayed by society as one. the character/reader can experience dysphoria from their mannerisms, voice, mental state, emotions, etc. an example is the character sitting down, standing, or posing a certain way thats almost unconscious, realizing it, then feeling dysphoric. it can just be about the pose itself, but it can also be from the fact that doing said pose wasnt a conscious thing and was 'natural' to do.

when writing smut — you know how cismen feel a lot of pleasure on the outside? basically same for transmen (for me and my friends, at least). pleasure will be experienced more on the clit than the g-spot—speaking of which it will actually feel less pleasure because of vaginal antrophy. the vagina thins and dries, so it makes it more difficult to feel pleasure there or penetrate. in my experience, it even became painful to try inserting anything more than a finger (and whenever things were inserted, there was no pleasure)

dont write them like cis women — as i said, dont write ftm characters like cis women with he/him pronouns. we are very different mentally, sexually, physically. although transmen have experienced being portrayed/treated as women by society, that doesnt make us the exact same. some dont want to be aligned with womanhood at all, others still embrace it.

please for the love of god, dont add misgendering in a romanticized way — ive seen a copious amount of fics where another character (whos typically a cis male), purposely misgenders the ftm char/reader and it's seen as arousing or attractive. it really isnt 😭. if anything whats more arousing is the respect of gender identity in a way that isnt obnoxious or malgendering.

dont use the identity for the sake of smut — now im not saying this as a puritan (i am open to taboo topics, and i write, consume, and draw them). making a fic about the char/reader being trans then using it JUST for the sake of smut feels very fetishizing and at times disrespectful. it's mainly about the genitalia (boycunt, girldick), and also the char/reader's AGAB (which is misogynistic). example is writing smut about a transmale character (usually written as the bottom), constantly talking about the cunt, and writing the char to act overly submissive and pathetic. it's both misogynistic and disrespectful to trans people.
