Hello! I'm getting cherry shrimp on Wednesday (They ship on Monday) and am still a little nervous about caring for them. I have read about them and have a tank for them ready (they will be in their own tank)but I'm still nervous! I've never owned them before just ghost shrimp. Are there any care sheets or advice you can give me on Cherry Shrimp?
Sorry for not getting back to you right away. I've been on vacation and this blog's posts are queued.
Here is a really good resource on cherry shrimp:Â http://www.planetinverts.com/Red%20Cherry%20Shrimp.html
They are an excellent beginner shrimp species as they are very hardy and accept a wide variety of foods and water conditions. The only thing you should worry about is to make sure the tank does not have any copper or metallic decorations and that it has never been used for copper containing medications. I'd also advise keeping them away from fish and larger tankmates as even micro fish such as celestial pearl danios may eat or harass smaller shrimp. With any luck they should breed fairly easily and you will have a happy and healthy colony of cherry shrimp!
