just another SFTH poll account. there are many that exist and are better— go follow them!
[run by @shootfromthesun :)]
TAGS USED BELOW (So you can filter them out if you don't want to see them!)
#Fandom Discourse Poll - Any poll about a complaint/issue/controversy in the SFTH fandom.
#SFTH Discourse Poll - Any poll about a complaint/issue with SFTH.
#Discourse Poll - Any complaint/issue/controversy poll, including the above as well as any that don't fall into either "fandom" or "SFTH."
I will be very liberal with these tags, by the way! I would rather something possibly be over-cautioned than under-cautioned, you know? Please don't take it personally/negatively if I tag your poll as discourse and you did not mean it that way! Additionally, let me know if any poll I don't tag should be tagged.
Polls posted here do not reflect the opinions/views of the mod.
This being said, these kinds of polls will not be posted:
Polls that don't have anything to do with Shoot From the Hip or the fandom
Polls that are bigoted
Polls about real people's appearances - I want to clarify. I would not post any poll along the lines of "Which of these members is more attractive?" or "Does [member] look better with XYZ haircut?" Whereas a poll like "Does Sam have brown hair?" is fine. I mean, I don't really know what it would accomplish XD but it's fine. Polls about fictional characters' appearances are fine as well; they're not real people.
Polls that are negative about specifically named fandom members - Example of a poll that would not be posted: "Should @shootfromthepoll be banned from venues for trying to suggest Statistics as a genre?" Example of a poll that would be posted: "Do you think that poll accounts should stay out of the main tags?" (idk why i'm catching strays in my own pinned post)
Rules will probably be updated- those three are based on poll requests I've gotten in the past, so I'll update them if something I forgot to mention comes up. Thank you for reading :D

Nobody asked but: My ranking and fancasts for each of these options.
Alice in Wonderland - I think this is a good choice. Everyone knows it, there are a million opportunities for references and ways to subvert those references. I'd like to see them eat/drink something and then have to stand on a chair to "grow big."
My fancast: Sam as the Alice-type, playing straight man to everything. Luke as that rabbit guy. AJ as the Queen of Hearts. Tom as Mad Hatter. You're set, that's all you need.
2. The Great British Baking Show — This could be very good. I'm gonna be honest; I've never seen an episode of this, but it's very self-explanatory. It's such a loose starting point that any story could work, the competition plot is already a good start. Immediate character types given right away. The contestants which would be made up, but then they could probably play whoever the real judges for that show are, people would probably know them and it'd get laughs. I'd like to see the villains try to come up with the saddest backstory they could to win over the audience. (I've only seen Chopped lol)
Fancast: Sam and AJ as the judges (there are two, right?), Luke and Tom as the protagonist competitors, AJ and Tom as the antagonist competitors.
3. Lord of the Flies - I would KILL to see this!! This is easy. It's just a shipwrecked story. You don't need to have read it to understand. This is SO widely referenced. I think there was an Alvin and the Chipmunks version of this, I'm serious. I'd like to see them come up with a funny substitution for a conch shell to pass around.
My fancast: AJ as our protagonist/"Ralph" character. Tom as a Simon/Piggy hybrid (you don't need both.) Sam as the Jack Merridew/"bad guy leader." Luke as the Roger-type/"bad guy's worse friend." Also Luke as the British Navy guy, or whoever else comes to rescue them/finds their bodies/however they would end it.
4. James Bond - I've never seen any Bond media at all, but I feel like you kind of don't have to because it's so widely referenced. I know what 007 means from Grey's Anatomy, for god's sake. I feel like a longform inspired by James Bond media would definitely still work for everyone as just a funny spy story.
Fancast: Sam as Bond, Luke and AJ as the... villains... and Tom as... the head of MI6?? I haven't seen James Bond, I'm sorry ðŸ˜
5. Doctor Who - When I studied abroad in the UK, my supervising professor told us foreigners that to understand British culture, we needed to watch two shows: Doctor Who and Love Island. Every other British person I've relayed this to has been anywhere from totally agreed to wildly offended at this. (She also told us that nobody actually pays for their TV license 😱)
Anyway... I don't think you need to have seen Doctor Who to get any plot they'd do with this, but I do think you'd need to be familiar with it to get any Doctor Who-related jokes/references, which would pretty much be the only things setting this apart from any other sci-fi they've done. That's why I've put it this low, even though I personally would love to see this.
My fancast: Luke as The Doctor, Sam as their companion, Tom as the villain, AJ as the human from whatever time/place/group being impacted by the villain. If they somehow managed to work a Dalek in there I'd be laughing too hard to see who's holding the microphone.
6. Lord of the Rings - I've never seen or read any LOTR media. I'm sorry. Of course, any good reference joke should be funny even without knowing the reference, but I'll say this: I never understand any of the jokes when Brennan is given a LOTR prompt on Game Changer, and they're clearly very funny to LOTR fans. So while this obviously COULD work, I think it would be much harder to do than some of the others. That being said, I have no idea how much of their in-person audience knows it. I wouldn't assume that the audience would all get it.
Fancast: I have legitimately no idea what characters are in this media. Maybe Tom as the guy... looking for the rings? Sam as that.. wizard.. AJ as the... rings...
7. Wallace and Grommet - I have no idea what this is except that it's a little kids' show and I think it's either puppets or claymation. It seems very very widely known at least, in the UK. I'm not qualified to say if this would be good or not.
My fancast: I actually know less about this than LOTR so I won't even try. I feel like I've seen them in a car, right? My fancast is the 4 chairs on stage as the Car.
8. Peppa Pig - I just don't think this would be very funny. I think with any plot, even within other jokes, the background joke would always be that it's ridiculous that it's Peppa Pig characters saying these things. Like any of these it could work but it's not my favorite. I don't think it's a funny enough idea to make a fancast for, I'm sorry.

I won't lie, this is very hard to do when there are only twelve poll options on Tumblr XD
I picked some that *I* think could make for good sequels, but if you or anyone else have a list of better options, please lmk and I will post a version with those!!
