So I am a liar and did not post like I said, but I am really excited to say I can run a mile! Breathing is so much easier! I feel strong and I feel good, waaaaay better than I expected to feel in just two weeks. Right now I'm just conditioning so I can return to full duty in another two weeks, but I'm going to start hitting weights heavy again starting next Monday. Today I did a light chest and tricep set for about 30mins, then an incline pyramid on the treadmill for 45mins, and finally an hour of cycling while playing The Witcher.
Hopefully by the end of next week it'll be a mile and a half!
Tomorrow is my first day back at work and my first day back at the gym. The stitches haven't dissolved completely yet, but doc says it's fine. I'll layout what I manage to accomplish tomorrow 👉😎👉
I'm going to try to actually document my progress moving forward on this blog, because my bar is gone!!! No more stabbing at my sides, no more sort-of deep breaths, and (hopefully) no more pain! I'm so happy to finally have reached this point, and I can't wait to look like the person I want to be. Three years in the making, time to kick pectus' ass!
12/22/2017 right before being released. 4 hour drive home was pretty fucking awful as the roxicodine wore off around hour 3, but we made it. After pics will come soon, I'm trying to wait for some of the bruising to heal first. Tiny hiccup in the procedure caused a lot of extra bruising but it's healing pretty nice. I got my first shower today too, so that was amazing! Seeing myself naked was like looking at another person.

So May of this year I was diagnosed with Pectus, a birth defect that causes the rib cage and sternum to be extremely flexible. I am in the Marine Corps and the physical demands of my career caused my chest cavity to warp so bad my lungs could only inflate 76% of their capacity and my heart swoll up and had shifted down and to the left towards my stomach.
So pectus is generally caught and treated in 7 to 8 year olds, so I'm a tad of a special case as I am 21. To help in my recovery process I'm going to document my progress and publish it here on Tumblr so my friends and family can keep track without asking me all the time how I'm doing. Also in the off chance someone else is going through this too and wanted someone to talk to about it.
