no other social media platform has lore quite like tumblr’s
the gods that haunt this place are unlike any others
I just saw a tiktok comment saying that tumblr right now is like a place recovered from being irradiated
Sign outside Tumblr: “This place is not a place of honor. No highly esteemed deed is commemorated here. Nothing valued is here. …”
id: screenshot of tags reading “the wildlife carries on in the ruins like nothing ever happened”
Sometimes you can hear voices from the trees...
I like your shoelaces

why is being sent to the seaside no longer a medical prescription. i know it would fix me.
writing is just sitting in front of a computer and making up problems for imaginary people while ignoring your own. fun and casual hobby.

Reblog this photo of a käpylehmä to have a käpylehmä in your blog
It's a trick! If you reblog you get TWO käpylehmäs in your blog!
They're traditional Finnish toys, little cows made out of spruce cones, on their way to see the world from one tumblr blog to another
I felt inspired to do some myself… ok it’s more a „dog“ and a „tripod“ but i love them 🥰
I have left a cluster of käpylehmät in the woods
the plot chickens (becomes scared of its own premise)
I had such a wonderful time at this year's European Fic Writers' Retreat!
Missing you guys all loads already.
Hope to see you again next year!
Same here! It was amazing and I'll live off the great menories fir a while!!! Can't wait for next year!
Oh yes, the memories...
I will fondly think back to these past days every time I hear a rooster or see a cucumber. 🤣

I feel like we really lost something when we started looking at writing as a reader-centric product meant to appeal to the desires of a specific audience rather than a writer-centric approach of someone writes whatever particular thing particular compels them/whatever weird thing the demons in their head want to talk about, and people out there who are also compelled, and/or relate, find that writing. A lot of discussions of writing really center around what readers want rather than a writer's exploration. Sometimes as a reader I don't know what I want. I click on a fic or pick up a book I'm not sure about but that looks interesting, and I love it. Reading what I expect to get is it's own joy, but we always need to expand our horizons and not get mad at creators for not always writing what we want/expect.

Once on IMDB I saw a “goof” which was that during a scene set in India(?), the light flicker was at the wrong frequency (in hertz). I wish I knew what movie it was to show you guys, I want to say it was some Marvel shit.
I always wondered how this person knew that. Was there an amazing Indian electrician who just instinctively felt the flicker rate was off? Did they go frame by frame and count the flickers per second?
I wanna say that was Tenet?
It was The Bourne Supremacy @garbage-empress
holy fuck
I love reading fanfics where one character is tagged as jealous, but their partner is unlovable to anyone but them. Like.. calm down, sweetheart, no one wants your man. We're still trying to figure out why you want your man.
The world is rarely black and white when Sherlock Holmes is involved.
Flash Fic 2
So today, at our European Fic Writers' Retreat (@europeanficwritersretreat), we did two super-fun flash fic sessions. For the second one, we used the writing prompt cards from The Story Oracle, thus creating the following prompts:
moving on up guardian great depths secret revealed
Another bit of inspiration was The Mystery of the Yellow Cucumbers we found in the garden, which some people used in the first flash fic and some in their second.
The rules were: try to use at least 3 of the prompts. You have 20 minutes.
Here's what I came up with:
* * * *
"Sherlock?"
"Yes?"
John looked around the garden, baffled. "What are these cucumbers doing out here on the lawn?"
"I don't know."
John, however, could tell by Sherlock's tone that he was lying. "It was an experiment, wasn't it?"
There was a beat of silence.
"No." It sounded like a question.
"Sherlock? Where are the cats?"
"They ran away."
John pinched the bridge of his nose, willing himself to stay calm, and failing. "We were supposed to look after them, you absolute pillock! Mrs Hudson's sister entrusted them to us! How did they even get out of the fence?"
"I thought this was just a holiday," Sherlock pouted.
"It was both!" John yelled. "We look after her cats and get to live in her cottage for a week. It wasn't meant to be complicated!"
Sherlock looked sad and defeated, and John realised he should maybe let him explain what he was even trying to do. Maybe it wasn't as nefarious as usual. "What was the experiment?" he asked, aiming for a mild tone.
"I saw some funny Youtube videos," Sherlock confessed reluctantly. "You told me to relax. Do something fun."
"That's true. And were they relaxing?"
Sherlock seemed to suppress a giggle. "They were extremely amusing."
"Show me."
After Sherlock pulled up his phone, John watched in amazement at the collection of short videos showing cats getting jumpscared by… cucumbers. Each and every one of them seemed to contract all muscles at the same time, thereby launching themselves into the air and into the other direction, away from the cucumbers: moving as high and as far away from them as possible. It seemed as if the cucumbers somehow appealed to a deep-seated fear of the poor creatures.
John knew he should feel sorry for them, but he couldn't help sniggering himself. "That's… actually hilarious."
Then he sobered. "Is this what you did to Mrs Hudsons's sister's cats?"
Sherlock's only answer was to look guilty and not deny it.
"And did it work?" John couldn't resist asking.
"Beautifully," Sherlock smirked.
"Alright." John slapped his knees. "Time for a treasure hunt. Let's find the cats."
Flash Fic session 1, Belgium Fic Writers' Retreat
So today, at our European Fic Writers' Retreat (@europeanficwritersretreat), we did two flash fic sessions. And it was so much fun!!
For the first one, we rolled 4 storytelling dice, thus creating the following prompts:
ice cream duck glasses smile
The rules were: try to use at least 3 of the prompts. You have 20 minutes.
Here is my result. :)
* * * *
Sherlock looked at the duck wearily.
John had set him a challenge in order to prevent him from shooting at the walls again.
First, he had dragged him out into Regent's Park and then pointed at the duck in question. "That one," he'd simply said.
"I can't deduce ducks, John."
"You won't know until you try," had been his simple reply.
"I'd rather have an ice cream, now that we're here," Sherlock said, trying not to pout, while wistfully looking over to the ice cream van parked a little further down. Its owner looked possibly even more bored than he himself felt. Sherlock instantly deduced she'd forgotten to charge her phone and therefore had to sit there all day without access to fanfiction. That certainly explained her sour face.
"Know what, I'll buy you an ice cream after you've deduced the personal life and history of that duck," John said, with an eerily amused smile.
"The duck is nearsighted and needs glasses, but can't afford them," Sherlock said primly, just after it clearly startled at another bird's approach.
If John wanted to be an annoying git, so could he.
John, however, burst out into giggles. "God I love you," he said on an amused exhale.
They both froze.
Sherlock wasn't sure he'd heard correctly. Or if he did, whether he should interpret it the way he was now thinking.
Maybe John just meant that they were really good friends?
But then why had John frozen like that? And why was he now staring miserably at his own hands?
Then all the puzzle pieces fell into place.
Sherlock quickly deduced that the best solution to get out of this awkward situation was to turn to John and kiss him.
So he did.
John briefly gasped, but then immediately participated enthusiastically in the exercise.
When they came up for air, Sherlock said, "Never mind that ice cream. Baker Street, now."

In case you weren't aware, the goal of a boycott is to significantly impact the bottom line of a business to pressure it into stopping some specific harmful behavior.
This means that a disorganized "don't support this" with no clear timeframe, no clear demand being put forward, and no organized effort to reach the actual customers of the business... is pretty unlikely to achieve anything.
"Boycotts never achieve anything" factoid is actually a statistical error. Historically, boycotts have been an enormously successful pressure mechanism for collective action. Boycotts georg, a social media user who launches a million poorly strategized boycotts every day with no thought given to target selection or actionable demands, is an outlier adn should not have been counted.
It says a lot about the damage done by clueless social media users that BDS keeps being brought up in the notes.
BDS has an actual strategy. BDS' guide to their boycotting strategy has this infographic illustrating the exact point this post is about:
Random social media users do not represent BDS' stance on effective boycotting strategy.
Who up boycotting a boycotter
That is unironically what a lot of discourse on this hellsite looks like
just watched a star trek episode about a planet that relied so heavily on it's computer system that they all forgot the basics of their own knowledge. and that allowed them to miss the fact that they were being posioned with radiation and nearly ending their civilization. because they couldn't use their own knowledge to figure things out. i bring this up for no reason in particular
Doctor Who (classic who) also has an episode like this which is funny, we've seen this coming for a long time
it is actually no surprising at all that these sci fi shows keep making commentary about the dangers of technology especially when they were being made during a time of great advancement. If only they knew it would get worse
