Aside from Chris/Steve being incredibly sexy being all authoritative and stuff, I just love how Steve and Natasha are standing next to each other like this! I know there’s that post going around where “all my otp has to do is stand next to each other and i die" or something like that but seriously, look at them. They’re standing like they’re the freaking king and queen of the world and shit, they totally are. Steve looks so comfortable being in charge and always has, and never does it appear like he likes the power or likes having a say over people, he’s just really good at inspiring people and rallying them towards a better cause and it shows. He’s so in his element right there. And Natasha stands not right beside him, but a little behind him and it’s perfect. Not because she’s any bit inferior to him or acts as some sort of designated right-hand, but because she’s the brains and the cunning half of their operation. He’s the face value and the strength, but she’s the half that’s meant to be a little hidden and a little more elusive. She’s the secret weapon, his ace up his sleeve, his first and last line of defense. She doesn’t want to lead, necessarily, but she has a strong leadership quality in her that is amplified by Steve. Her type of leadership is more behind-the-scenes and that works for them. She’s not meant to be a single leader the way Steve can, she’s meant to be a co-leader, an equal, who can almost pick and choose her involvement. She stands behind Steve because she is his strength, someone he can depend on to pick up his pieces and tie his loose ends. She allows him to focus entirely on the situation and gives him whatever break he can manage, just as he is her pull towards some kind of moral stability and her pull into this greater and grander role she is capable of being. They are totally a power couple, and whether you find that romantic or platonic doesn’t matter. It doesn’t change the functions they serve for each other. They are a king in queen in the way they work together and inspire others and strive to save their people.
