Fun in the Sun!
Summary: The Anubis residents get away for a day of fun in the sun!
Story for @she-is-miller as part of Sibuna Secret Santa 2025
Evie's Notes: Happy holidays Val! I hope that you enjoy this short and sweet fic. It's super cold where I am so I wrote some fun in the sun for our favorite Sibunas. I haven't written anything for HOA in a while so this was quite fun! Enjoy and have a wonderful new year!

“Get in bitches! We’re going burning daylight” yelled Patricia honking the horn to the van they had rented for their day trip. She was excited for a break from school and Sibuna drama.
“Pep it’s six am, it’s barely light out” complained Joy as she added her stuff to the back of the trunk and got in the van.
“Miller tell your girlfriend to chill out” whined Jerome, his usual gravity defying hair lying flat and mused as he curled around Joy in the back seat, clearly hoping to get some more sleep while they drove to their destination.
“No can do, Jerry. The queen has spoken and so it shall be. We’re almost all ready, Yacker”
“Thanks slimeball,” said Patricia with a sickeningly sweet smile before laying on the horn again loudly. “Move it losers. We got places to be”
Fabian and K.T. climbed into the first row behind the driver's seat. Alfie, Willow and Mara took the middle row and the Anubis crew were soon off to the seashore.
Patricia and Eddie loudly blared their favorite punk music over the speakers as they drove to the beach to the complaints of the other riders. Patricia just laughingly declared that “Driver picks the music and others shut their mouths”. Alfie swore that he would drive on the way back.
“Someone pass me the donuts” called K.T. about an hour into their drive.
“No can do Kitty Kat, Alfie ate them all” replied Mara annoyedly.
“What about the muffins?” asked Joy, suddenly feeling hungry herself.
“Only the super gross banana nut left” pouted Willow.
“Hey! Banana nut is the best muffin flavor” defended Fabian. “Mick and I ate them all the time when Trudy would make them”
“Not even Trudy’s magical cooking can make Banana Nut muffins taste good” declared Alfie.
The group stopped at a small deli to pick up crisps, drinks and sandwiches for their lunch. Alfie and Jerome went wild with their sandwich toppings making Mara gag. Paying for the food, the gang loaded back up in the van before finally making it to their destination.
Changing into their swimsuits and applying lots of sunblock; the teens gathered their various supplies and made their way down the sandy beach to a spot big enough for them all to lay out. They propped up their umbrellas and set out their beach towels before several of the group kicked off their shoes and ran into the ocean. The Anubis students laughed and splashed happily in the waves letting the stress of school and exams melt away.
Joy and Mara laid out in the sun and allowed themselves to finally relax after the hectic ride there and soak up the warmth of the sun. Fabian took out the book that he had brought and settled into a beach chair under a sun umbrella, hoping to avoid a serious sunburn.
Patricia had declared herself keeper of the towels and planned to spend most of the day under the umbrella with her sketchbook. Her all black swimsuit and pale body made her look like a vampire under the ocean sun. Her best Sibuna friend and boyfriend were having none of that though. So as Fabian distracted Patricia, Eddie snuck up behind her and picked the girl up carrying her to the ocean and dropping her in the water. Patricia shrieked in shock and faux outrage, chasing her boyfriend through the water in hopes of getting him back.
Willow was busy surveying the shore for seashells to turn into jewelry or to take home and decorate her room. She brought back several good ones to the blanket where K.T. helped her paint the shells a variety of beautiful colors.
After their delicious deli lunch, the group decided to have a sand castle building competition. They paired up into teams and had varying levels of success. Joy and Jerome’s castle had quickly been swept out to sea by the waves. K.T. and Mara were doing fairly well, whereas Patricia and Eddie had given up and were chucking wet sand at each other. Willow and Alfie were a bit distracted, the redheaded girl by the pretty shells and creatures all around her and Alfie with plots of sabotage.
“Here birdy birdy birdy” called Alfie, shaking a bag of crisps towards the flock of seagulls.
“Alfie what are you doing?” asked Joy, lifting her sunglasses to shoot the mischievous boy a judgy look. She had retreated to the blankets to tan when her sandcastle had failed.
“Nothing” lied Alfie, hiding the bag of crisps behind his back.
“You better not be thinking of sicking those birds on Fabian’s castle” warned the girl.
“But Joyyy!! His sandcastle is so much bigger than mine” protested Alfie, gesturing to where Fabian was continuing to craft his massive sand palace with precise engineering.
“Yours could be just as big if you were actually working on it”
“But that takes effort”
“And tricking birds into attacking Fabes and ‘accidentally’ destroying his castle isn’t” asked the tiny girl incredulously.
“Nope!” declared Alfie smugly.
“Alright. Go be stupid somewhere away from me. You’re blocking my sun” waved off Joy, laying back down to soak up the sun’s rays.
“Sounds good… THIS MEANS WAR RUTTER!!!” screamed Alfie as he grabbed one of the seagulls and ran screeching towards the boy.
After Fabian was crowned king of sandcastles, the group decided to play a game of beach volleyball. Splitting into two teams they had a ton of fun bumping and passing the ball back and forth over the net. The group was surprisingly better at this than they were at dodgeball.
As the sky started to darken the group of nine made their way up the shore to the boardwalk where they stopped for dinner. Dining on delicious seafood the Anubis students reminisced about their day of fun in the sun. They only had a month left till graduation so they were soaking up their time together as best they could, knowing that in a short while they would be scattered across the globe, like some of their friends before them.
After they finished their meal with ice cream sundaes, the teenagers wandered the boardwalk listening to the buskers sing, stopping to play carnival games and window shopping trinkets at various stands.
Unfortunately as the moon rose and it got later it was time for them to return to home as Trudy and Victor would be waiting for them for pindrop. Gathering their items from the beach the group reloaded the car before crawling into the van themselves, sunburned, sandy, happier and more content than they’d been in months. Alfie scored the driver’s seat with Willow riding passenger princess on the way back. The group blasted pop songs and sang along at the top of their lungs riding the high of sun, fun and youth.
