I'VE COME CLOSE to replicating a dragon claw myself in my own time , but nothing seems to work . ❞ shawky carefully steps over the fallen remains of an already-defeated draugr and cringes . ❝ what do you think ? IS IT WORTH TRYING FOR , or should i give up ? i imagine the door in question hides a great many valuable things to you , dragonborn . . . might be worth your while to help me after all . ❞

where hannibal lecter thrived in social settings, an ounce of quiet would do anyone some good. and to see the museum away from people prattling on, pretending they know anything about the art that surrounded them, was an opportunity he simply could not pass up. hannibal takes a sip of his wine as he watches shawky all but press his nose against the glass, an amused almost smile twitching at one corner of his lips. 'i enjoy aspects of it. the art - paintings and music - of those past, most of all. and what those in history have left for us to find,' taking a sip from his wine glass, doctor lecter considers what shawky has to say, mind wondering from one area of the museum to the next, pinpointing what might be hannibal's favorite out of all of them. 'i suppose if i had to choose, it would be the east wing, where all of the paintings are hung,' satisfied with his answer, he glances back at shawky. 'every brush stroke has a story, and i am inclined to read them all,' his grin growns just so. 'please don't judge me too harshly for my decision,'

❝ i like your answer . you passed my test . ❞ shawky's slight nose crinkle gives away his playful suggestion . might as well pretend there's something serious at stake here , if only to further hannibal's amusement . they've escaped the noisy event , escaped the annoying questions and too-curious strangers inquiring further into their lives . . . all in favor of this , this tucked-away adventure in the depths of the boston mfa . abandoning his detailed study of the funerary mask , shawky spins on his heel to face the man behind him , a new , wide grin blooming on his face . ❝ the east wing , you say ? THEN LET'S GO THERE NOW . what are we waiting for ? maybe you can teach me about the brush strokes and their so-called stories . ❞ with brows raised , he gestures towards the other end of the hall , away from the relics and finds scattered behind glass in this sacred wing . ❝ there's a huge painting of george washington in the americas section — really famous . i think it's bigger than me , to be honest . . . THOUGH LOTS OF THINGS ARE BIGGER THAN ME . ❞ checking to see if @consumare is following him , shawky continues on slightly-fast feet ( he's noticeably excited about this little adventure ) . ❝ what's your favorite painting of all time ? doesn't have to be housed here . i'll tell you if i've seen it before . ❞

thank the divines for ásgeirr . he's strong . he's got a sword . he's got capabilities far beyond shawky's weak skills with magic — he keeps the archaeologist safe in a darkened place like this and allows him to focus on his work . when the most recent draugr approached , then walked away from their hiding spot , shawky thought they were dead . ❝ i still don't understand why it just . . . it walked away . ❞ disbelief colors his voice , but he weakly nods at ásgeirr's order and follows behind him . ❝ yes , i got what i needed . LET'S LEAVE . ❞

in   a   strange   way   ,   watching   shawky   function   in   a   more   mundane   setting   is   kind   of   entertaining   in   of   itself.   this   poor   man   had   clearly   not   gotten   enough   sleep   ,   yet   he   tries   to   be   hospitable   ,   nearly   falling   in   the   process   while   also   finding   a   book   in   a   very   non   -   traditional   place as he rambles on & on.   mason   watches   on   ,   a   bit   amused   &   charmed   by   his   quirkiness   ,   but   once   he   sees   his   friend   nearly   slip   in   the   kitchen   ,   he   slowly   rises   from   his   seat   ,   slowly   approaching   him   until   he's   close   enough   to   take   the   glass   of   water   from   his   hand   ,   his   other   hand   gently   reaching   for   his   shoulder   ,   squeezing   lightly so as not to startle him.   ❝   water's   just   fine   ,   shawky   ,   ❞   mason   remarks   with   a   grin & a wink.   ❝   c'mon   ,   let's   go   sit   down   for   a   bit   ,   okay   ?   you   know   ,   i   wish   you   told   me   you   came   in   last   night.   i   thought   you   had   already   been   home   for   a   bit.   i   feel   bad   for   interrupting   you   when   you   could   be   sleeping.   ❞   mason   returns   back   to   his   seat   on   the   couch   ,   but   he's   watching   his   friend   even   more   closely   now   ,   ensuring   that   he   doesn't   nearly   trip   over   himself   again.   ❝   i   could   leave   &   you   can   tell   me   all   about   your   trip   another   time.   i   don't   mind.   you're   not   exactly   that   far   from   my   own   place.   i   want   you   to   be   okay   ,   man.   clearly   the   lack   of   sleep   is   getting   to   you   ,   &   i   mean   that   in   a   nice   way.   in   a      ❛   i   care   about   you   ❜   sort   of   way.   ❞

he's a very capable adult man who can very much handle himself , tend to his own needs , and put himself to bed when he feels he needs it . SHAWKY DOESN'T THINK HE NEEDS IT . he doesn't have time . hasn't had time — hasn't had an opportunity to shut his eyes and sleep properly for a while now . things have been busy in the world of archaeology ever since his big discovery , and now shawky's mind is hyperfocused on the next step . how is he supposed to sleep when there's work to be done ? ❝ no no no , ❞ shawky starts off , frowning , shaking his head at mason . ❝ you came all this way to say hi and — and visit , and hear about the discovery in alexandria , and i'm not going to send you home just so i can sleep . ❞ he drops into the chair near the couch and tucks a leg under himself . ❝ i was looking forward to this . what's that phrase ? i'll sleep when i'm dead ? SLEEP CAN WAIT , mason , i swear . i'll be just fine . ❞ he did doze a little on the flight home , but was unfortunately interrupted by a crying baby . of course . now he rubs his eyes behind his lenses and blinks rapidly , forcing himself into alertness . ❝ how much did you see in the news ? you texted me a screenshot a few days ago — that news article . THEY USED THE WORST PHOTO OF ME . ❞ shawky makes a face . ❝ but how much did you read about the tomb ? how much do you already know ? how much did i already tell you . . . ? ❞

and  thus,  her  look  towards  shawky  seems  to  do  its  job;  eliza’s  got  her  duffel  bag  open  flat  on  her  bed  before  she  begins  haphazardly  throwing  essentials  inside,  seemingly  taking  her  sweet  time.  "what's  the  rush,  baby?"  (now  eliza  is  just  being  cruel.)  the  smile  on  her  face  is  nonchalant,  just  waiting  until  she  can  push  him  far  enough  to  force  them  out  the  door.  "um  ...  hm,"  hands  rest  on  eliza's  hips  as  she  looks  around  herself,  pausing  before  looking  at  shawky  once  again,  "can  you  find  my  guitar  case?"  the  one  that  she's  currently  kicking  further  beneath  her  bed  so  it's  out  of  sight.  "i  think  it  might  be  by  the  front  door."  once  he's  frazzled  over  that  task,  she'll  be  kind  enough  to  put  him  out  of  his  eliza-induced  misery  &  get  on  the  road.  (it's  just  too  fun  to  get  him  riled  up.)

okay , so this is a little ploy . has to be . she's smart and sneaky and she's dragging her feet and taking forever on purpose , and shawky is the unwilling victim of her game . once he comes to terms with the fact that she's toying with him , shawky calms down considerably , takes a few much-needed deep breaths , and accepts the task at hand . her guitar case . WASN'T IT JUST IN THIS BEDROOM ? ❝ let me go check the front door , ❞ the explorer accepts , nodding , fixing his glasses , and launching himself rather awkwardly down the hall — all gangly limbs and tired posture as he fumbles his way to the spot in question . ❝ it's not here !! ❞ he calls back to eliza after a moment of silence . ❝ are you sure you saw it here last ? PRETTY SURE IT'S IN YOUR ROOM . did you — ❞ shawky comes marching back , ❝ — did you check under the bed ? ❞ as much as he wants to get a move on and reach the airport in time , he's trying to recognize eliza's needs , too . maybe it's that whole time-blindness thing he read an article about .
