Have you considered the law in social media? There are conversations ranging from copyright infringement to employers asking for account logins, or what photos are “ok” to post to how to deal with negative comments online. If you’re involved in social media, these legal issues can and will affect you. The risk assessment is simply this: “If you have a doubt it, don’t use/post it.” Use common sense! If working with minors, get the parents permission first. For group photos in the workplace, have each employee sign a consent form in advance. this will save you from headaches in the long run. Keep in mind that employers have a right to regulate the workplace. If your posts are considered “disruptive” in any fashion, the first amendment will not protect you. I can’t wait to see how the law surrounding social media evolves and to learn more about how we can protect ourselves.

Ok picture this, it’s 6am on a cold, rainy, Saturday and you’re headed to the Christiana Mall for the start of the Preston’s Playground 5k.  You get there and you see hundreds of people either running, walking or using these cool hand cycles or being pushed in jogging strollers by volunteers lined up for the start of the race.  The gun goes off and the crowd goes wild! Each participant, supporter, and vendor (ranging from 5-80 years old) have taken two hours out of their day to help make a difference in the lives of so many. On April 2, 2016, this event was able to raise funds and awareness to the all-inclusive playground coming to Newark, DE. As I watch each person come through the finish line, all I could think of is that famous quote “Be the change you wish to see in the world.” I’ll never forget how I felt seeing this community come together as a supporter/spectator for the first time. I’ve been inspired to do more, push beyond limitations and finish the race. #smstrategy16

Ok, so I got up at 6am to attend my first 5k for Preston’s Playground at the Christiana Mall. It was such a cold, rainy Saturday in April, I’ll never forget it. People were everywhere, stretching, setting up booths, transporting water bottles, helping each other grab numbers and actually TALKING to one another. All before 7am!  After I had my coffee (thanks Barnes & Nobles for the freebie) I was ready to jump right into the action.  I grabbed my umbrella and waited for the runners to start. Five, four, three two, one...Go! They took off, some running, some walking, others pushing using these cool specialized bikes. They all had something that I had forgotten about...DETERMINATION to push themselves beyond any limitations and finish.  I’ll never forget how I felt. This day was about “making a difference”.  #smstrategy16
