BANG BANG.

   JUST AS she turns on her heel, the sheriff emerges with gun && files    in hand; her response, in turn, is a rather undignified squeak, body    tensing as if she could not distinguish Caitlyn from a foe.

   “ You, ah. “ Exhaling, she grows slack in posture. Maybe one day not      everything that moves will be a threat. “…yes. I’m afraid that my original     route had a snag in it, so I figured I would come back here for a few     days while I recalculate my next steps. “

    Pause. She toys with the bandage on her arm before continuing. 

    “ …would it be too much to ask for shelter until then? I know I’ve just     come through, but - I will make it quick. “

the squeak is something rather uncharacteristic of the noxian && caitlyn has to suppress a chuckle, instead opting to simply raise an eyebrow at the noise. she shrugs lightly. “as long as it is quick.”

caitlyn’s hand dips beneath her desk to hold down her leg, stopping it from tapping incessantly out of anxiety. she had known that vi had these.. emotions for her, but caitlyn did not find it necessary to approach her about them. it did not interfere with their work, so why bother? it was irresponsible of her to think that just because it didn’t affect their work that it didn’t affect vi personally. her free hand lifts her hat to set it on the desk, running fingers through dark hair in an attempt to calm herself. her adrenaline pumps through her veins, && the sheriff resorts to wiggling her toes in her boots to release the energy that so desperately wanted her to just run.

cassidy gingerly picks up the note in delicate hands, reading it with care. she laments the fact that she can’t spend christmas day with her sister, but being officers comes down to that sometimes. they’d meet up when their breaks roll around for dinner, then cassidy would be on her way to fill in her shift. it was a routine they had settled into years ago, && none were the wiser to the famous sheriff caitlyn being two separate women. there were jokes, sure, but the women were incredibly adept at covering their tracks.

the wrapping paper stood out the most, && cassidy sometimes forgets her twin’s more childish side. not immature, just.. actually childish in her tastes of cute things && playfulness. it’s with careful fingers that she pulls at the tape (she’s never been a ripper) to open the present to reveal the photography book. a bit of flipping through the book && cassidy makes note of the happy yordles that play about the streets in one photo, then the elderly couple strolling one of the parks in another. sometimes, cassidy forgets these things. neither her nor katherine often get to see the beauty they protect in this city. they were often so focused on the corrupt.
