Sharpay has known since she was a child that she would be a star. It was pretty much destined for her from the moment she stepped on the stage in community theater in elementary school. She set her sights on the moon from a young age, knowing that one day she’d get to the most prestigious level of theatre that the Isle had to offer. Her ambition sometimes got the best of her, especially when it came to stepping on her twin brother, Ryan’s, toes, but Sharpay’s vision for the future reached beyond what Ryan’s had. She dragged him to every audition through middle in high school, and naturally, they wound up getting the leads in pretty much every show. They were shoe-ins for anything they went for, earning the favor of their drama teacher, Mrs. Darbus, early on in high school.
Sharpay is used to the world revolving around her, and that's just the way she likes it. Even though she's a twin, it seemed that the Evans family accepted when they were children that she would be the Batman, and Ryan was always her willing Robin. Maybe that's why she had such a hard time when Gabriella rolled around: for the first time, Echo High had another golden girl sharing in her well-earned spotlight. After spending so much time dedicated to the Echo High Drama department, it was a slap in the face to have the lead taken away from her. Then, Troy and Gabriella's band of do-gooders wanted to write their own musical while she was trying to get scouted for Broadway. Gabriella was everything Sharpay despised in a person: way too nice, cared way too much about school, and didn’t care as much as she did about theater. Sharpay tried at every turn to rip Troy and Gabriella apart from each other and their leading roles, but had little success. It was a disaster, and while she may have shed a tear leaving high school, Sharpay left Echo High without a second look.
After graduation, Sharpay went to the University of the Isle and studied musical theatre. Though she dreamed of getting off the island and on Broadway as planned, her brother, Ryan, was the one to get the prestigious scholarship and pursue his dream of being a choreographer, while Sharpay stayed home. She wasn’t happy about the decision at all, especially since it seemed like one of the only reasons why she’d not gotten the scholarship was because Troy, Gabriella, and all of their friends hijacked their senior musical to make it all about them, but whatever. Since the announcement that the island was closing, Ryan came home, and Sharpay is beyond grateful to have him back. Despite some creative differences, Ryan is her favorite person on the planet. He understands her like nobody else does, but college has definitely changed him a bit. He seems to want different things now than the duo they were supposed to be together, but she'll get him to see the light eventually.
Since coming out of college with her degree in musical theatre, Sharpay was given an ultimatum by her parents that she could pursue her dream for two years, and if she hit success, then she could continue. If not, she’d have to find a “real job”, since her father wasn’t entirely convinced that she was ready for a career like this in the first place. She found somewhat of a loophole, getting her dog, Boi, to star in a production of a new musical that needed a canine star. Somehow, the bitchy lead was unable to go on for opening night, and as Sharpay had learned in her training, it was best to be prepared for anything. Instead, she went on, and was offered the role as a standby in the production.
While she’s still a standby in her show, Sharpay has branched off into making her own music, and while her EP has done well, it’s not the commercial level of success to show her parents that she really is made for a life in the arts. They’re not entirely convinced that being a standby in a show that isn’t performing the best and an EP that didn’t sell as well as she’d hoped is good enough to continue. She’s working on an album in the meantime and still attending auditions for other shows, hoping to hit big.
In all the time since high school, she’s still, rather unfortunately, pretty hung up on Troy Bolton. She doesn’t know what it is about him, but it’s pretty annoying that the same guy she’s been obsessed with since middle school is still hung up on Gabriella. Now that they’re broken up, though, Sharpay sees a small window of opportunity that she needs to capitalize on if she ever wants a shot with him.
Since high school, though, Sharpay has branched out into hooking up with both guys and girls, though she hasn’t really sealed a committed relationship. She almost dated Zeke the summer after they graduated, but he was accepted into culinary school and had to leave the island. She isn’t afraid to hide her bisexuality in public, though she is just a tad ashamed at how many people she’s gotten with and let go, unable to keep even one of them around long enough.
Pink is a personality trait, and Sharpay embodies that every day. She likes to think of pink as a state of mind, as the pinnacle of femininity and power. A girl who can wear pink and conquer the world is the definition of the modern woman, and she wants to be part of that movement.
