Two beautifully repaired tea cups. Their symbolism cannot be lost on anyone who has heard of the Japanese art of kintsugi (here is the Wikipedia link for those who haven't). But is there a story to them? How did Shadowsan come to own these ones? Did he buy them himself? Did Hideo send them? (<- this is my hc by the way.) And is there any particular reason why they show up in this episode, in which Shadowsan's character flaws—his entitledness, snobbism, self-serving morals, and manipulative interpersonal style (yes, there's a "label" for this constellation of personality traits)—so unmistakably manifest, despite all the years of polishing since those very same traits led young and foolish Suhara to choose a life of crime?

CRINGETOBER DAY 9: CROSSOVER SHIP/ RAREPAIR

listen. I am the CEO of Chase x Shadowsan. Do I draw them a lot? No. Do I post about them a lot? No. Do I think about them to an insane degree? Yes

asdfghjk this whole scene is SUCH a nice touch by the animators, it gets me every time. Because these three tackle the same wall in three noticeably different ways—and each way functions as a subtle reinforcement of character. IT’S SO WELL DONE.

Carmen uses mostly her legs to bounce from surface to surface, neatly vaulting over the top. Smooth, effective, very graceful. 8/10 by comparison.

Shadow-san, with his greater physical strength, scales the wall more directly but also presents the lowest profile as he dives over, thus limiting how much attention he’s likely to draw (as befits a ninja). 7/10 because it’s efficient but seriously, is he not going to have any fun with this?

Whereas Le Chevre, on the other hand, is absolutely The Flashiest as he goes for a solid 10/10 with that dramatic little frontspring-tuck combo. It also takes him one move less to reach the top. While both could be merely a nod to how this is his area of expertise compared to the other two… that he just likes to show off also seems like a pretty reasonable inference. No one outclimbs a goat, after all.
