It wasn’t that Doojoon didn’t believe that money made the world go ‘round. Face it. It was the reality of things. You needed money to survive to have your basic needs and having an abundance of it only meant that you were kind of set for life and there was less obstacles in your way for things that you wanted to do. But Doojoon didn’t like being this big future CEO of this huge company that his family had built. He didn’t want any of that. He didn’t want to be rich. It was huge burden and a lot of responsibility. Not to mention that his family wasn’t exactly on good terms. He was like the son that his family never wished they had, or well the son his mother never wanted to have. Now he carried too many burdens and he desperately wished he was just a normal person, living an average life. Earning enough. Free from all the politics and the image and the responsibility.

Doojoon never talks about his mother. You’d often hear him talking about his dad because he whines about all the work that his father gives him as he was bound to be the successor to their huge family business. 

Doojoon chooses not to talk about his mother. Despite his happy-go-lucky and kind facade there was always things that bothered him at the back of his mind. He never told anyone. For some reason, he thought it was normal in terms of what was expected of him. But it shook him to the core. 

It was his 7th birthday. His mother sat him down and smiled at him as she gave him his gift. Along with that, words that Doojoon would never forget.

Doojoon kept a diary on his phone, an app that makes him pick how he felt about his day and then add the activities he had done on that day and a note to jot down his  thoughts and feelings. He did this everyday before he went to bed. It was sa good chance to really reflect about the day and find  those small instances of gratitude and acknowledgement. It honestly was one of the things that kept him sane.

Spring Fest Surprise

After working in the hospital during internships and voluntary service, Gikwang had developed a sense of how to treat people and patients in stages of fear or pain. He had come upon screaming patients who had thrown things, were scratching or punching those around them or spitting at them. Life as part of the healthcare system wasn’t always easy and he supposed they weren’t always met with the appropriate gratitude, but that didn’t changed the fact that one had to encounter those in fear and pain with empathy and calmness. But aside from this empathy towards someone who was afraid of heights, he was also filled with warmth and affection for his friend who had mustered all of his courage to confess his feelings despite the situation he was caught him. Gently he rubbed the other’s shoulder, just trying to be a sort of comfort towards Doojoon as long as they were up there.

He could feel the heart in his chest beat hard, when the older man hid his face in the crook of his neck and held him close - harder than every other touch they had shared before. This time their embrace bore a different meaning, and if he was honest it still felt like a dream too good to be true. Gikwang let his gaze wander along the horizon, too bad Doojoon couldn’t look at this gorgeous view. “Yes, you are a huge dumb… But so am I.” He replied with a low snicker. They both were idiots, but that was ok.

His best friend’s panic attack had let him forget his initial embarrassment and the awkward atmosphere that had built up during their fight, had vanished. They have returned to their usual vibes, even when things looked completely different now. And hearing Doojoon word it out once more, it was confirmed: They shared the same feelings. “I like you too. I’ve always liked you. You were so cool and strong back then, I… couldn’t help but fall for you.” Turning his head slightly, he looked at the older man, loving gaze on him, before leaning forward and pressing a soft peck on Doojoon’s lips.

When he was in these kinds of situations there was no other person he would want to be with but Gikwang. Why? Simple. The guy knew how to handle him. Doojoon kept his arms wrapped around his best friend, listening to the other’s breathing and his words as he spoke up. He couldn’t help but laugh when his best friend called him an idiot, “Yeah well I guess this is why we’re best friends. We’re both idiots,” he muttered softly.

Both of them had called down considerably. He was glad that the tension between them had completely vanished and they were back to normal, but at the same time not really. There was a different meaning to a lot of things now. Hugs won’t just be hugs between friends and them hanging out and going out together wasn’t just a simple hanging out, but more of dates. The thought of that kind of excited Doojoon a lot. When Gikwang responded to his calmer and more direct confession, he began to smile even more. “You should have told me a long time ago,” he mumbled softly, “Now we have a lot of time to make up for, for all those moments that we could have had but didn’t because we didn’t really know that this was what it really was.” He could feel Gikwang shift and soon enough he felt those plump lips pressed against his and he smiled against it, eyes closing as he returned the kiss. Doojoon moved his head a bit and leaned in more, moving his lips slowly as he held on tightly to  the other.
