little patton can’t talk and doesn’t know how to get cg logans attention so he gets frustrated and cries.
-
Patton’s cup had been empty for two hours and he was so thirsty. Logan was busy on his laptop and Patton hated interrupting him while he was working.
Logan did agree to watch Patton while he was little today, so he probably wouldn’t mind if he bothered him a little. But on the other hand, Patton hated bothering people.
Bother Logan for juice? Was it even worth it?
Honestly, yes. Juice was worth almost anything, right? Especially right now.
Now...how was he going to get his attention? First Patton tried waving at him, but it didn't work.
Humming didn’t work either. Logan was still staring at his laptop.
So finally Patton tried standing up, but he fell on his face. The worst part wasn’t even the fact that he fell, it was that Logan still didn’t notice him.
Suddenly Patton felt invisible, and very alone. He just wanted Logan to pay attention. Was it very selfish?
Patton was feeling overwhelmed, frustrated, and now guilty for wanting to bother Logan in the first place. Patton didn’t know what else to do so he wrapped himself into a ball and cried.
“Patton?”Logan asked, snapping himself out of his fixation. He crouched in front of the little and whispered, “Patton? What’s going on, little one?”
Patton continued to cry so Logan sat on the floor properly to pull Patton onto his lap. “It’s ok, Patton. I’m here. Everything is alright.”
Once Patton calmed down Logan was able to talk to him again. “Patton, what's wrong? Are you hurt?”
“Were you trying to get my attention?”he asked, “did you need something?”
Patton nodded, still sniffling a little.
“Oh, Patton. I’m so sorry. What was it you needed?” Logan asked, he said it genuinely, which indicated that he didn’t mind being interrupted at all which gave Patton so much relief. He got off Logan and grabbed his sippy cup.
“Oh, you want something to drink. What would you like? Milk, water, or juice?”
How do you say juice again? Patton honestly tried but the word just didn’t come out and all could do now was cry, he’s angry at himself for forgetting how to use words.
“Alright, raise one finger if you want milk, two if you want water, and three if you want juice.”
Patton raised three fingers.
“Good job, Patton. Very good.”
Patton smiled and hid his face at the praise.
Logan went into the kitchen and got Patton some apple juice, it was the only juice they had so hopefully Patton would be ok with it.
He handed it back to Patton who smiled and instantly started gulping it like there was no tomorrow.
“Slow down Patton. You don’t want an upset tummy. Can you say thank you?”Logan asked, he moved his hand to his chin then moved it forward as he said it.
Patton covers his face. He didn’t understand why Logan would ask something like that when it was clear Patton couldn’t talk right now.
“No, I’m sorry. Patton. I should’ve been more clear, watch me.” He does it again.
“This is sign language, it may help with communication. Would you like to try?”
Patton smiled and nodded. As long as he was with Logan, Patton didn’t care what they did.
Logan moves his hand and places it on his chin.
Patton mimics him, rather off but adorably so.
Logan then moves his hand away from his chin and says: “thank you.”
Patton does the same, only humming the words.
“Very good, Patton. Would you like to learn another one?”
Patton nods excitedly, he liked this game.
Patton tried to mimic him by holding his hand up all the way.
“You don’t need to have it that high, Pat.”
Logan curls his three middle fingers.
Logan then moves his thumb down across the three fingers covering the fingernails.
Patton does the same but ends up curling his pinkie too.
“Not your pinkie, Pat. The pinkie is going to do the talking with the wrist.” Logan shows him his hand again.
Patton looks at Logan’s hand, then his. He used his other hand to uncurl his pinkie. He smiles proudly to show Logan, hoping he’ll be just as proud.
“Very good, Patton. Now move your hand up to your face like this,”he demonstrates by placing his pinkie to his chin, palm outwards.
“And lastly, move it like this,” he turns his palm inwards. “Juice.”
Patton mimics Logan once again, not losing eye contact with him to make sure he did it right.
“Perfect, just like that. Good job, Patton.”
Patton smiled and held up one finger.
“One?”Logan thinks about it, “you want to learn one more?” He guesses.
“Alright, you’ll love this one. No dad joke intended.”
Logan then lifted his pinkie.
Pinkies sure liked to talk a lot. Patton did the same.
“This sign means I love you.”
Patton gasped excitedly, and jumped on Logan and held on tight.
Logan couldn’t help but laugh a little. Patton was the cutest. He’d hate to ever hurt him again like he did today.
“I apologize, Patton. I wasn’t paying enough attention to you. I let my work distract me, when I should’ve been watching you. I love you so much, and I never want you to feel unimportant. I will try to be better in the future. I promise.”
Patton signed ‘thank you,’ ‘I love you,’ then lastly ‘L.’
Patton hugs him again, Logan realizes he’s going to have to teach him how to sign a lot more words, starting with basic needs like ‘milk,’ ‘tired,’ ‘cartoons,’ and then how to sign everyone’s names.
